I wrote an essay on the meaning of life, too!

I got a "D" on it, though. (I swear, all english teachers are out to get me... not a single one in my entire life has ever given me something better than a C+... yet I always get comments like "Great Job!", "Very nice wording!", "I love your writing style!" and then right underneath those comments "F!" )

I came to the conclusion that the meaning of life was to be happy, no matter the cost. If you died becoming happy, then no body could ask for more. EVERYONE wants to die happy!

There is no "choice" to get to heaven early. Because CHOOSING to get there early basically means you committed suicide and you won't be GOING to heaven.
At least, according certain groups, that's how it goes.

I like that idea. But - can, or should, you ever place other peoples' happiness above yours? Let's say you had the power to make everybody on earth happy, but the price was that you would become miserable. Would that be a "good" trade - and would it be right, if we follow your philosophy?

I'm not flaming you or anything, I'm just curious to see what people think. (I'm also curious to see what *I* think, because I'm not sure yet.)

My Dad struggled with exactly that question for years. He worked a very demanding job to provide the best of the best for my family, and we were certainly all happy, but it was taking a toll on him. He was depressed, tired and stressed all the time.

When I talked to him about it, he seemed to think there were only two options: live a miserable life so that we could be happy, or live a happy life and leave us miserable. Fortunately, we managed to convince him that life really isn't that polarized. He now has a job that isn't too stressful and he gets to spend more time with us. He earns significantly less, but we live comfortably.

From this experience, I think its quite clear to me, you can live happily, and keep the people who depend on you happy as long as you balance your life. Money isn't everything.

I live for the fun of it. I dont care what happens to the world. I am even not sure if i want to go to collage because i think as good as it is, its not worth 200000 dollars. cant afford collage eithr so why bother? Its not even guaranteed that i will even be able to get a good paying job after collage.

I guess my purpose in life is building my dark basic project that will be finished probably by the end of my life. I dont know how long it will last but right now i am enjoying my life to the full potential. But this thread is not about me is it?

Man, we people will always complain. For a example about a month ago I bought a new top-of-the-line cell phone. $400 shiny junk with a 3 year contract. A month after a friend sees it and says "oh geez you got that thing? Didn't you hear there's a new model coming out in 2 months that can..." I just groaned and cut them off.

To Nex: If you believe everything's been done then try to live to do something new. 99 to 1 odds you will not make it happen, but at least you'll try and it'll take your mind of the futility of it all. (In the words of the King Solomon quote)

If that happiness would last longer than my own life, then I'd take the trade in a heart-beat. I'd let everyone in the world be happy and leave myself miserable. It just seems like it'd be the right thing to do. And besides, making others happy makes me happy, so it's a win-win scenario if you think about it.

I'm not the only one that matters, not in my eyes.

I loved my ex-gf more than anyone and anything in the world... but when the time came (not gonna go into it), I made the decision to let her go because it'd make her happy. She's been happy and I've been miserable, so trading my happiness for an entire planet comes at no question.

There can only be one crazed person around here who thinks he's a fictional character from the Simpsons named Ralph .

Hmm, not in my case. Im the only real human, everyone else was taken and are know being used as batteries to power a world simulation.
