If he has the normal Limited Warranty from Acer then it will require that the laptop be only checked out by an Acer certified repair centre, so if he opens it and tries to fix the problems himself then he will void his warranty. So if a problem happens then it's in his best interest to send it back to Acer really.

Ok, I just experienced yet ANOTHER annoying problem. My laptop froze with GTA SA on low settings and there were pink squares all over the screen. Whatever acer did, they really mucked up my laptop more than I originally had when sent in for repairs. And now i cant even play GTA SA, it just does nothing, it wont load. Now im really pissed with acer.

thanks

$100 says you still haven't bothered to properly take the issue up with Acer or the Department of Fair Trading, and that you just want to complain about it here.

Its definetly hardware. It occurs in the bios and now it wont even boot. I have a few assignments on that laptop that i need to hand in tomorrow, but if it boots, it lasts 30sec then freezes. I got a vid of it crashing then starting up with what i had running when it crashed. Then later comes the starting tone. im sick acer and their crappy support. This problem caused my family alot of stress tonight and could cost me some marks at school.

DO NOT BUY ACER THEY SUCK WITH THEIR COMPUTERS AND THEY HAVE CRAP SUPPORT. THEIR REPAIT TEAM DOESENT FIX THE PROBLEMS PROPERLY, THEY JUST ADD MORE PROBLEMS. I TOLD THEM THIS COULD HAPPEN, BUT THEY SAT ON THEIR A** AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. NEVER BUY ACER, EVEN IF THEY SAY 'oh, now its better than it was 4 years ogo!' BECAUSE THE ACER I GOT 4 YEARS AGO LASTED LONGER. I GAVE THEM A BIG LIST OF PROBLEMS AND IT TOOK THEM 4 WEEKS TO BOX IT AND SEND IT BACK!

*this is not abuse to anyone of the forums

i have a 5min vid of it crashing as i described.

thanks

We get it already, you're a little kid who wants attention and wants to hack on a company, who would probably provide great support if you were bothered to take the issue to them personally. And if you really cared, you'd take it up to the Department of Fair Trading.

Properly take it up with them man. I had a problem with my Acer (my laptop is the 6920G), I sent it in for repairs, the problems were fixed, my laptop has no problems. I understand that you can get faulty hardware and sometimes faulty technicians, the company doesn't intentionally want to p**s you off with faulty tech. The only problem I've had since getting it back was glitchy graphics on Fallout 3, where the driver kept failing, but it was a BETA driver and all I did was download a new one.

You're still in warranty and you can take the problem up with them. As for your work? If you were sensible you would back up regularly, I have Uni work and I back up in case, say, something happens. A couple of my classmates have learned the hard way, and because they have, they just work around it. And no, they're not Acer users.

On the plus side, if you properly complain and maybe you can get some compensation. Some companies do when a customer has had a poor experience.

I am 14 and I need this for school, so I have my rights to complain about acer. Hopefully people will look at my thread before they buy one. Im whining because I have numerous assignments on there, and that I need to complete. Im also whining because I told them this would happen, and it did! Only 1 week after it come back from repairs. Here is what I sent to them.

Quote: "Overheating regularly – on a flat surface with lots of space for ventilation.
Graphics performance is a lot worse from when I bought it. When playing games FPS rates were originally 50fps when the laptop was newer, now it ranges from 5-20fps. This drop in FPS rates occurs in all games I play on it.
Has problems connecting to wireless networks.
Battery dies at random times and works again after 5min.
Very slow performance on desktop when ‘My Computer’ is launched. (takes 5sec with no apps running).
‘HyperMemory’ causing loss in performance and is eating up ram (please remove if possible)

VIDEO CARD = DEAD (from what I experience when booting)

Blacking out after 30min (some occasions)

Very slow performance (takes 2min to load when a usb stick is put in)

New mice keep dying (last 1 week then sent back because they just stop working)
"

they ignored that so thats their problem, they say that they listen to customers but they dont. Also, they only have one person managing the support line, so it takes 1hr to go through 10 people. I will be taking this through DFT if it comes back like this again, I expect what I paid for and nothing less.

thanks

I think that's not what some people were complaining about here. If you have a problem, by all means, complain to acer, we're just saying deal with the problem rather than moan about it. I know a guy at Uni who stresses about the problems of the University and the Student Union etc. and he does it to everyone and it gets people's nerves, we just tell him to get on with it and complain to the right people, not us, in other words get the problem solved.

We all have troubles when dealing with someone or a group, I mean advising against Acer, great, but I think what the problem people has is that this thread seems to be more of a moan than anything. Perhaps that's where the annoyance is? From looking at it.

Oh, and if you're 14, I doubt going to the DFT will work for you, so get your parents involved.

XD they promised it back this week, but it didnt come. If it doesent come before next term, ill have to take things further. I called them personally and they promised it back. I have 2 assignments that I need to present, but this is the only computer capable of running these apps. Acer is really pissing me off now, ROFL, 8 weeks, almost 9! I bet Lanci is sitting in his multi-million dollar mansion thinking: "yayz, i like to keep people's laptops! they will forget we have it!" I have emailed them multiple times (they have a 48hr email response guarentee) but no responses! Unless you want the world's worst support, quality and life in a computer, DONT BUY ACER!!!! I paid almost 2000$ for this, and all I got was a load of crap. Right now I'm on a 5yr old computer, and it plays modern games on med-high settings. My laptop cant play any good games. My desktop that im on atm has:
1gb 400Mhz DDR ram
2.1ghz AMD Athlon 64
128Mb 6600GT VGA
2x LCD Monitors

and it plays games MUCH faster than my laptop does, as I said many times, my laptop has:
4gb 800Mhz DDR2 ram
2.2Ghz AMD Turion Dual Core
512Mb 8600GS VGA
15.4" LCD Panel

and wow, now you see. If you want performance and life-span, buy a cheap computer off Ebay. I cant believe I trusted acer! Here are some images to get your attention:

The only thing that gets my attention is that you have no idea what you're doing, and don't know how/don't intend to "take things further", you just want to rip into Acer. In short, you're really starting to piss me off.

It's true though. I cann them and I wait like 5mins to get either 'Sorry, our hours are 9am to 5pm' or 'there are currently 10 people in the que'. Im annoyed because I have waited 8 weeks, but they dont seem to give a crap. Oh well, DFT time I think. Ill contact them if I dont get it back within 1 week.

Please only post about your problems with Acer, not with me or other brands!

Here is the message I will send if I dont get my laptop back within 1 week;
Hi, I sent my Acer Laptop in for repairs. I recieved it back about 2-3 weeks later, and it had just got worse. I sent it back in after about one week, and I havent seen it since. I called them 1 week ago and they said that I would recieve it within that week. It has been at least 6 weeks since i FIRST sent it in, and I am very un-happy with the status of this. they said that 'we only just got the parts required to fix it' and that took them about 3 weeks. I am not happy, and this really annoys me. I am 14 and I need this for school work.

I told you to take it to the Department of Fair Trading a month ago. In that time, all you've done is make a phone call and send a few emails. You're clearly not serious about getting it fixed.

No offense, but if somebody does have a problem with you in this particular thread, then they're welcome to say it, as long as they're not nasty about it.

BIG ADVICE though, DON'T post your age if you're underaged, the mods have a rule against it, simply for safety's sake.

But anyway, my Acer hasn't been 100% reliable, but I've had nothing major go wrong with it, though I will extend my warranty before I lose the chance to (and have the money to do so). I wouldn't go as far as saying they're crap, my laptop after isn't a piece of crap, I don't get angry with it, it was the most well priced hi-spec system at the time I bought it. The only problems I've had with it were the keyboard/headphone jack issue which took 3/4 weeks to get sorted and at the moment it seems I've lost 1gb of RAM and I'll be sending it in after my Uni deadlines (they're in 4 weeks, so I can't afford to send it off).

Yeah, I read the thread and bought one for my dad this afternoon. Great little machine.

Believe it or not, it's possible to have a problem with a single machine that doesn't reflect badly on everything they make

To be honest, my came back a week after they said it would - In an email they said my problem is the kind that'll most likely take 10 days to fix, but it took them longer. I think you're learning how customer service can be sometimes on faulty goods. Not all of them are perfect and it seems Acer's isn't.

Hmmm...I've had my Acer desktop for about a year and a half now and have had no problems. For $600 I got a 4400+ 64 dual core, 2gb ram, 500gb hd, and a 24' widescreen. Since then I've only updated the graphics card, not a fan of onboard, which only cost another 200 bucks, and my computer can run Fallout 3 on the highest settings at 1440x900 resolution as smooth as silk.

Maybe I got lucky?

As far as I know it's all Acer. It was a standard PC package from Best Buy. I needed a new computer after my old one died, so this seemed like the best deal. If it lasts another 2 years, then I know I got my money's worth.

Oh, and my monitor is 19' widescreen, my bad, my old monitor was 24'.

EDIT (due to irrelevant topic)

Well Fair Trade sounds good IMO since I get what I paid for. If something screwed up then I don't get the right repairs, someone's going to help me get my stuff in a good shape.

I'd appreciate that idea since it doesn't exist here in my country, but why not use it? (TY veron)

Next time, make time to shop for laptops. Sales won't tell you that their product's crap. Keep in mind that the crappiest things on earth can be sold through marketing...
