I was in the market for a new mouse, one that I could use to make models and graphics and things I can't use my WACOM board for. So anyway I got this Arc mouse and have been working with it. It seem to be ok, any of you guys use one?

The picture shows the one I got, I really like the color~

It looks a little odd to me. The color is nice though. How does it feel in your hand?

it fits me pretty good, I have big hands though..LOL! I stand 5'10" and I'm all legs and have large hands, so I was looking for something that fit well. This mouse seems to do just that, the only thing I don't like about it is its very fast. I had to slow the speed of it down so I could draw with it.

Ugh, I hate that sort of mouse. But then again, I like gamer mice, so I'm used to a better design and better grip. Plus, I don't want MS's products in front of me more than I have to. Bad mojo

What a strange looking mouse!

My gaming mouse died, so decided to stop spending £30 every 6 months on mice.... bought this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-OEM-RX1000-Laser-Mouse/dp/B000GQMJ8E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235461417&sr=8-3

Might be cheap and ugly, but I bought it based on recommendation, and it's the most accurate mouse I've ever used for artwork and modeling. I spent a fortune on my gamer mouse and replaced it with a better one for £6 (or whatever it was when I bought it). Comes highly recommended for those who get frustrated by twitchy mice. A good test is to load up Paint and zoom in, then try drawing a perfect line across the screen - if you can't get at least half-way across then your mouse is just too jittery.

Van - what if we hold shift?

I never had the need to buy advanced mice, I guess. I never used any really good ones, so I'm fine with the couple-dollar mice you can get in any store.

Actually that one looks like it would be very comfortable to use. It seems like the curve would have a nice feel

I paid around 20 bucks for my mouse. You can get it here for $4.79. That pisses me off. It seems that always happens to me to. Everytime I buy something, the next day the price goes down.

I have never seen a mouse like that arched one you bought. That weird.

I'm still rocking an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 - the one that made optical mice mainstream. Best mouse ever made, so comfy and natural feeling! I never liked those twitchy so-called gaming mice, and most newer mouse designs just feel so weird to me when I try them. I don't need a crazy smooth scroll middle button that tilts.

I'm going to be buying a Microsoft Explorer mouse fairly soon, one of very few mice big enough to comfortably fit my hand

I'm fairly confident I'm using the first generation optical mouse myself--- it's also an Intellimouse but I can't figure out where to find the model name, as it just says Wheel Mouse Optical. I bought it in 2002.

It's not exactly a mouse but I'm interested in one of those little SpaceNavigators. I'm unable to find clear info as to their ability to act as DirectInput joysticks though...

I had the same mouse as Bond1, but it only worked for a month or so. I'll stick with a nice cheap logitech, they last awhile.

So DB and all those games you play are running on what?

I have the Spacepilot - the best workflow enhancement purchase I've ever made for 3d modeling. I know a lot of professionals who shun these things without giving them a chance. But the ability to zoom/pan/rotate ALL IN ONE MOTION is a massive timesaver while freeing up your right hand for editing. I watch a lot of tutorial videos from the "pros" and watch them struggling to orient their view in just the right way by having to constantly zoom/pan/rotate as a bunch of separate actions, constantly clicking their mouse. And I think to myself, "Chumps!".

Man, what are you all doing with your mice? I've never had any mouse from any manufacturer just die on me. My wife and I have each been using the same mouse for about 7 years.

What happens, do they explode? Catch on fire? Buttons fall off?

I think they use them to death, I have had 4 fail on me over the last 5 years. After a while they start acting weird and jump lines or just stop functioning all together.

I have had only one mouse break on me. It was a wireless mouse. It just like burned out. Idk to be honest. One day I plugged it in and it didn't work. It smelled funny to.

I've had one mouse break down twice. First time round, the cable broke from the board which was fixed in a five minute session with a soldering iron. Second time, the board split under the button.

I've had a cheap old harry potter mouse for about 5 years, and it's still going strong (The matching mouse mat isn't looking so good though, it's all curled up at the edges...)

The buttons went on my gaming mouse, but I tend to get sick of them and want to try something else rather than having to replace them. I'm the same with keyboards, but right now for I use a Logitech keyboard and mouse.

I think it's mostly the pricing with Logitech stuff, but the main thing for me with Logitech is that when you buy something, you get exactly what you pay for. I've been disappointed too many times with low quality stuff that looked good in the photographs, rubber coatings wear off, as does shiny plastic chrome. If you spend £60 say on a keyboard and mouse, then I think you get the most for your money by using Logitech.

Agreed. I've had a Logitech gaming mouse for 3-4 years now and it's still running like a champ and is still one of the best mice I've used.

I'd easily spend that much if it was worth it. That said, not much can beat the logitech gaming mouse:

I am bemused. People here are spending more on mice and keyboards than I spend on complete systems.

Because if you use it 24/7, you need a decent one to keep going, without it breaking, or without killing your limbs. Sure, a cheap one could suffice - but it won't last long (unless it's an older / simple model)

I've had this computer for five years. And I've only used two mice (yes, one broke down) on it - both cheap ones that are only a couple dollars. You guys are being over-dramatic about mice breaking down.

How often do you have all-night coding sessions?

I had 2 expensive mice break down in the last year, why would I want to exagerate that? - the fact is that you can get good laser mice from reliable manufacturers for peanuts, which was not the case a year ago. If you don't need a new mouse, are happy with the mouse you have, then why not tell us what mouse you use instead of disregarding everything that is said because it doesn't apply to you.

That's precisely what you just did above. Also, mice are a personal taste thing, so why the hell would I (or anyone else) discuss things that don't apply to themselves? What use would it be talking about what kind of mouse would apply to the bum that lives on the street outside?

Stating the praises of cheap mice/keyboards as some kind of factual data is stupid, as is disregarding the (very real) benefit that can be achieved with a slighter higher value product

EDIT: A really good example of this is buckling spring keyboards vs. rubber domes. Rubber domes are cheap, and will last some time - buckling springs are expensive, offer better tactile feedback, and will literally last decades.

Reliable is quite different from high quality, ergonomically friendly and long-lasting.

Interestingly enough, my typing speed increases substantially on buckling spring keyboards. Where do I find them? I go to the small computer shop that sells old keyboards and I buy them for a dollar

I was actually responding to ZekeGames there David, in response to him saying we were being over-dramatic and that he has used cheap mice with no problem. I just thought Zeke could have been a bit more involved in the discussion. If he's used the same cheap mouse for years then I'd like to know what it is!

As for cheap vs expensive, I thought I'd stated my case quite clearly - I've bought expensive mice in the past which don't compare to the one I found for £6.99. Am I allowed to praise it or should I pretend to be happy with the fancy gaming mice I've bought.

I buy mice every month at work and finding good ones that are cheap enough is tricky, Kensington for example has gone way downhill IMO, I mean besides Logitech, who else makes good but cheap mice?

Sorry for my lack of discussion-involvement.

If it helps, I had one of those microsoft explorer mouses that everyone praises, which was awesome, now I have a very loud-clicking logitech. And it seems fine, they are both laser mouses and I use (my current one)it on a regular dirty mousepad.

I generally associate long hours of coding to my keyboard, which I've had since I got the computer and it hasn't broken down yet. I don't know how often those break though.

Used to have a wireless explorer 2 but got fed up of having to buy batteries all the time. switched to a rechargeable wireless Logitech MX1000. It was good but the middle mouse button stopped working after about a year. I bought another one, but went back to using a wired mouse not long after I got it. I'm using a Razer Diamondback 3G now, seems good enough. Was a little too sensitive when I first got it, but you quickly get use to it.

I've been using this mouse for about 2 or 3 years now. I've only replaced the batteries about 3 times in that time? I leave the mouse on (There is no off option, if that even exists) all the time, and it lasts a good long time. It fits well in my hands. I love it.
