Bubble Bobble - Absolute Classic, played it obsessively on the Atari ST as a kid. (I've repurchased it on my Wii virtual console)
Double Dragon - A great, easy, yet oddly satisfying game experiance. It might not have shaders and flashy graphics. But the gameplay is soild. (I've repurchased it on my Wii virtual console)
Blood Money - No save games, no cheats, you start at the beginning and play your way thorugh 4 planets, killing aliens and creatures for money, while dodging giant crab claws, machine's, lakes of fire and walls of ice. Very very hard to beat. The furthest I've ever come is half way through planet 4. My thumb numb, my arm aching. Great music, create art, great value for money. A real demonstration of what the Atari ST could really do back in the day. Blow up stuff, collect as much money as possible, and spend it in shops buying upgrades. What could be better?!?!
Elite Plus/ Elite Frontier 2/ 3 - Elite, the ulitmate space trading experiance. A massive universe, with all sorts going on. Endless freedom. All you need is a cargo bay full of fuel, a good jump drive, a fuel scoop, a star or gas giant. And you can go anywhere you like. You can do anything from piracy, to mining, trading, to taxi'ing, enlisting with the military. Plus there's a ton of ships, upgrades, and money to be made. I've not come across another game, that offer's this much true freedom, that doesn't feel the need to lock you down into a story line. Best of all! No endless jump gates to navigate between. You hit a system you can goto the next without wasting time.
X-Wing/ Tie Fighter/ X-Wing vs Tie Fighter/ X-Wing Alliance - Great star wars fighter games I've lost many hours too, and still occasionally play X-Wing Alliance.
Commanche 1, 2, 3, and Gold - An arcade style helicopter sim, where you fly an RAH-66 stelth attack helicopter. Work your way through many missions with immersive graphics, tactics and gameplay. Sure it's not a simulator, you won't have to adjust 100's of controls and learn physics. But it's a great fun game, plus it showcased Voxal technology as a real rival to the polygon's we use today.
Command and Conquer - Simple, direct, or so it seems until you get online. Where building more tanks then the computer is the main gameplay, that all changes when someone sneeks a commando behind your lines taking out major buildings, or robs you of your resources. May say it's a build crush and destroy game. And while the tactics aren't as complicated as some, they've balanced the game nicely. It's not all building and crushing. Red Alert 3 is one of the few remakes I really rate.
Diablo I and II - Hack and slash your way through hoards of enemies, gain power ups, weapons, armour, money, buy what you need repair. Emmerisive storyline, and characters. I can't wait for Diablo III it's one of the few games I'll purchase this year.
Sam and Max - They don't make point and clicks like this anymore, and the 3D versions just never caught the great humour and writing of the older games.
Discworld 1/2 - The worst, most frustrating Point and click experiance ever, back in the days when games where allowed to send you home crying, that you just can't work it out! Loads of insane weird puzzles from the works of Terry Pratchett. Keeping his humour, and strange world. I'm sorry to say that Discworld Noir didn't quiet capture that magic.
Day of the Tenticle, monkey island 1, 2, 3 - Great sense of humour, and amusing puzzles all the way. It's a bit like playing your way through a funny novel.
Those are my favorate games. I hope some of you agree with me!
