In case you haven't noticed, we've had two world wars already. In each of those, MILLIONS people died (37 million for the first, and 73 million for the second)! If the US wanted to kill people, they don't need nuclear weapons to do it! The very fact that nuclear weapons are so dangerous is why they make the world so much safer. No US president would dare to even risk starting a nuclear war. Since nuclear weapons were invented, there have been no wars anywhere near as large scale as WW1 or WW2, and it was nuclear weapons that put a stop to WW2 in the end. (Admittedly at a great cost, but arguably it was for the better, since it will prevent people from using nuclear bombs in the future)

I don't worry about the US when it comes to nuclear weapons, but less civilized countries such as many in the middle east.

About Nuclear War:

I think Einstein said it best: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.". I don't think anybody is crazy enough to prove him right.

About The News Media:

I see the News Media as a bunch of vultures picking at the remains of a corpse in the middle of the desert. Until every single angle on his life has been covered they aren't going to let up about Michael Jackson till several months from now. I was shocked that he died and I'll miss hearing the latest on his crazy life... but now that he's everywhere in the media I'm getting sick of seeing him.

About Michael Jackson's impact on our lives:

He has impacted our lives even if we don't see it. Me, I prefer to listen to Weird Al Yankovic. But without MJ Weird Al's career wouldn't of been launched into stardom. Weird Als first song that made it big was a parody of MJ's Beat It... Eat It was a hit and was made into a video on MTV. If it wasn't for that video I wouldn't have ever heard of Weird Al and thus have never enjoyed all these years of Weird Al songs (and several other MJ parodies).

Another piece of childhood gone. I remember my cousin bringing his Thriller album over to play, loved that song and video. And man, listening to Bille Jean after all these years - damn that groove is TIGHT.

It's sad to see such a brilliant pop king go suddenly. I only heard about it until my dad told me, I didn't believe him at first. Then I went down to see my mum in tears and turning round to see the news of Michael's death. He was probably the only last decent singer around, now we're stuck with sissy Beyonce and all that crap.

They were my favourite too, along with 'Don't Stop 'Til you Get Enough'. Pure classic .

Off the Wall is my favourite, some cracking songs on that album.
Sad to see him go to be honest.

Yeah - read the rest of my post. I was comparing to other single deaths that get made into 'big deals' (e.g. Jade Goody)

??? His post is relevant.

I'm also getting sick of the MJ coverage, and how they're treating him like a deity. Since his acquittal in 2005 the media did not treat him very well, and now that he's dead he's a hero? Argh. He was greedy and self-serving (spending millions more on himself than he made), and he admitted he slept in the same bed as kids. Innocent or not, that is not acceptable behaviour for an adult. People are still dying in places like Afghanistan and in the China riots as we speak, and there is not enough coverage of those events in my opinion.

Well since he's dead people are now looking at him for what he did for the music industry and not the other things... And he did a lot for the music industry.

We have lost the greatest talent of our epoch, if not of all times.

He is irreplaceable, fortunately we lived the legend and he left us a very large legacy.

It is a paradox how humans get used to everything, even to the most amazing phenomenoms.

He teached us so much and we learnt so little.
He was a messiah for the whole human kind

It is a matter of proportion, really. Someone who has had a HUGE impact on music has died, so it is not anything wrong with covering that. The problem is that the media is doing what they are best at: Blowing it out of proportions .

How can you spend more money on yourself than you make? Are you saying he was deeply in debt?

And he definitely gave to charity. He actually has the Guiness record for most charities supported by a celebrity.

I would say Mozart was the greatest talent of all time (and child prodigy at that), but to each their own.

Yes, he was reported to have spent $20 million a year MORE than he earned. Why do you think he was selling all his crap from Neverland these past few years?

... I've seen about one news bulletin about mj this week, and it was 'MJ's family are having a small private funeral MOVING RIGHT ON'

So I don't think there's too much coverage.

What do you have, 2 channels? Did you watch any news station any time yesterday? I know CNN was doing nonstop coverage of it, and same with Fox News, although Fox had enough sensibility to talk about more important things after the service ended.

I saw a small clip on The Daily Show about his house. It's innocent till you look at the security around his bedroom. To get in his room one has to type a password on a keypad. Anybody that knocks on his door he has a peephole in his bedroom door to see who's there... and his closet has 3 locks on it with a secret room inside. Pretty creepy knowing all that and that he admitted to sleeping with kids.

I'm sick of the coverage too... for a couple of days on Yahoo they've been showing his daughter Paris from 10 different angles on stage talking about him (far away from the right, far away from the left, close up of her face). Seeing her every time I wanted to do a search for something made me less and less sorry for her. I know what she's going through but this is just too much.

Now the news is concerned "Where are they going to bury him?". When he is buried they're going to cover that too... and every time a groundskeeper mows the lawn. "MJ's grass mowed too low!" or "MJ's grave infested with crabgrass!" or "MJ's lawn not watered enough for mourners!". When will the madness end?!

I hear he actually didn't die... he just join Elvis and is in hiding.
The King of Rock and the King of Pop... they'll rule together... I'm sure this is true. It only makes sense.

Is it her fault she's getting lots of coverage? No. You shouldn't feel any less sorry for her at all.

It's not like his music was bad as well. Why does everyone seem to hate people after they die?

It wasn't brilliant. The same beat, the same style of vocals all the way through. Beat It was good because Halen graced it.

I know it's not her fault but too much of any thing deadens it's effect on us. That's why I avoid normal news on TV and only see little snips of it on The Daily Show... and I'm much happier for it.

The media disowned him after his allegations in 2003. Now that he's dead they're making him out to be a hero. The media "hated" him before he died.

That's the thing Jeku, the media is full of hypocrisy, they have no real values when they're reporting something, their only interest is in making sure people tune in or buy their newspaper. If the media cooks up hate for Michael Jackson by focusing a whole lot on the Neverland ranch scandal, then people are going to read up on the next 'weird' thing Michael Jackson has done or the latest on the child molestation case. As long as it is interesting, they'll keep eating at it.

Now that he is dead, 'scandals' are no longer interesting because those stories have been made, now we have tribute stories, because MJ was a big part of the 80s and 90s. You might find down the line the media will start cooking up conspiracy stories (if they haven't already) and speculating on each piece of evidence the police gets. They milked the madeline McCann case like that and Princess Diana is not really dead because even now the media keeps making Diana reports.

Sometimes it can appear they're 'reporting for the people', and some claim to, but by making themselves look like they care, they get a few more readers. Journalism is just a business to them.

I'm sorry but I think you might be confusing celebrity with talent. The man was certainly popular and I would say was the greatest celebrity of our time but his talent as songwriter was marginal (he can give alot of thanks to Quincy Jones), as a dancer/performer he was certainly above average to outstanding. There are people with far more talent than he, many obscure as they write/compose, not perform.

I fear we will be in for a solid dose of MJ for months to come and with each piece they will come closer to cannonizing the man. I loathe TV at the moment and have resorted mostly to on demand and HULU to avoid all this nonsense.

Is he still dead??
Maybe it is time to let it go.
The US passed a very big tax package the day after he died and nobody even noticed. Maybe we are missing some more inportant things.

This thread should be closed. Enough is enough. Honestly, I'm sick of hearing about Michael Jackson's death.

He is dead and is not coming back. If you liked him, good for you! Would you like a damn cookie!? If you disliked him, thats all good as well. Everyone has their own opinions of his death and after a few weeks of his death, who honestly cares now. Why bump this thread over and over? End of discussion. Thread lock please.
