We've talked about the Tesla roadster before, but now they're making a sedan, the Tesla S. I think it looks cool.

Electric D:

I would much rather something with a >6 litre V8 engine.

Its also a well known fact that it is easier to pull women in a Cadallac than a Telsa Sedan. Which name sounds like some phone company.

I bet if you tell your friends that you have a Telsa sedan. Their first reply would be "what network are you on?"

That's right. It's much better to have a cool car than to save money or the environment.

@kaedroho

It's TESLA not TELSA. Learn to read before you make an ignorant statement.

And six litres? What the hell fo... oh, wait, you're an American aren't you?

You're from Oxford? You must have emigrated, must have!

Electric cars don't help the environment as much as people would like to believe.. It might reduce the pollution in the air, but where do you think that electricity comes from when you recharge it? Unless your town runs on solar power, it's still fossil fuels.

I hear ya, but take it from someone who drives a powerful V8 daily, their gas mileage is not fun. I live 6 miles from work and a tank still barely makes it a week.

A power station is far more efficient than the engine under the bonnet of a car. The only reason car engines aren't designed like power stations is the time to start up/shut down - hours.

Not to mention you get coal-fired, nuclear, renewable sources, natural gas and oil; (I know coal and gas are forms of fossil fuel but they're not really suited to cars) that's a much more diverse range of potential fuels which means less dependency on just oil.

Oh, I'm sorry. I do have reading problems so I muddle up letters/words sometimes.

You prick. We have just as many right as Americans over engine size. Big engines are not a just American thing.

Exactly, that's a ridiculous stereotype. I have friends in Iran who say the people there also love the big, loud cars with big engines.

That's because you know nothing about cars. When people refer to the engine size, they usually refer to the amount of liters. A small engine would be about 1.6 to 2.0 liters. And then for trucks and stuff, you can usually see engines in the 4.6 liter to 7.0 liter range... In some American Muscle cars, such as Mustangs from the 60's, there are those who decide to put engines greater than 5.0 liters, which sucks fuel quick.

I do know, MIDN90, I'm no imbecile. Cars don't need more than 2.0L engines unless you're going racing. Trucks need the torque of a larger engine, but ordinary people commuting? It's just a waste.

A sedan is a car. This thread is about a sedan. And therefore, I'd imagine when discussing engine sizes in this thread, I'd picture we're discussing car engines, not truck engines.

I need the sound

Well my friend has a 1979 Pontiac Trans am with a 6.6 litre V8 engine. The thing neither looks or sounds like a truck.

Come to the United States. You're in for a culture shock. And yes, you do need more than a 2.0 Liter engine. If you try climbing the mountains in the United States, the fastest you'll hit is 40-50mph uphill. I would know.

Yeah, that looks nothing like a truck. It looks like text on a black background.

No, but because nearly everyone has a 3.0 liter or greater, even for cars.

And people wonder why america invaded iraq AKa a large oil rich land

They also pointed out an M5's V8 gets better mileage around the track than a Focus.

I wonder if this thing really gets 300 miles. If it does i bet i can expect a nice 16 hour charge after that. I used to regularly drive from Falmouth in Cornwall to Wolverhampton. This car would be pointless for me. Electric cars aren't really efficient or convenient enough to really take off at the moment, give it another 10-15 years then maybe, but its still going to take much longer than that for everyone to switch over, especially with the quality of cars that are coming out recently.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen the new murciélago?

It says 45 minutes to "QuickCharge". Is that a full charge or not?

It's a cool thing. I'm overly concerned with aesthetics though - If i was going to get an electric car, i'd get a Volt. The concept looks like balls but the production version is sweet.

Really though i'm happy with my petrol machine. I'm pleased and excited that in the future more cars will be electric, with people charging from a "smart grid" fueled by renewables, but aren't in any hurry to be an "early adopter.

That is the most beautiful object I've ever seen.

Nah just kidding, but that is really nice.
