I actually saw a UFO.

Not sure if it was an alien, but it was certainly eerie. Weirdest experience ever. It was certainly an unidentified flying object.

I was on a cruise ship leaving from Galveston, Texas at night. We were sailing down some river (the name escapes me) to get out into the Gulf of Mexico. I was standing on the top deck with my older cousin Karl, looking off onto the shore on one side and watching the lights go by. We're just standing there shooting the breeze when this circle of lights rose up right in front of us (it was nearly pitch black so I don't know the source), but it was RIGHT THERE. I felt I could throw a rock and hit the thing. The lights were slowly rotating, but it made no noise. None at all. It was as high in there air as a 11-deck cruise ship, and there were no lights below or above it, so I have no reason to believe it was a structure of some sort, along with the fact that the ship sailed right next to it, and wouldn't do so if it was a building in case of a collision.

The weird thing is, I don't remember how it left my sight. I think it just remained stationary until my view was obstructed by a wall. The weirdest thing is that it slowly rose into our view before stopping. What could possibly do that?

This story is absolutely true, and I'm a really skeptical person when it comes to things like this.

Wow, that's freaky stuff...

If aliens are visiting us, if they are, why would they be doing it?

Are they scouting us for an invasion, using us as guinea pigs, or simply watching us to see if there's anything they can learn from us?

All of those sound pretty dumb, so why are they here, if they are?

If I was ever given the opportunity to remove all the bad from the world, I wouldn't, because for there to be heroism, compassion and all that is good, there must also be all that is bad.

I think it all started with some aliens on a sunday trip, finding earth and imagines it would be a nice rest-stop, but find that there's people there already so they go home and tell their alien friends. The alien friends don't believe them and go check for themselves; "huh, they were right", and then they go back home and tell their friends of our presence, then a bunch of aliens come over from time to time just to observe us being stupid. The alien vacation industry caught on and now offers trips to earth like some kind of a safari, and here we are.

Maybe Earth to aliens is like New Jersey to us. Why would you want to go there?

If there was a great big scout ship in space, you can see it but it does not show up on radar.

So what would happen?

I think there is life on other planets, but I believe the ufo sitings are crap (IMHO only, not trying to offend). I saw a show on discovery channel about WWII scientists. The show stated that Natzi scientist were doing a lot of work on ufo like aircraft. Also they wrote strange writing on there, but it was only there wierd Natzi writing . So before the war ended, the US military were trying really hard to bring those scientists to them to help in aircraft stuff. They said it was called operation paperclip, and around the 50's they were working on a LOT of aircraft that was strange looking. One was flown into a city on accident and people thought it was ufo. So...

This may be a rational decision, but I believe the UFO conspiracies are an excuse so the military doesn't have to tell everyone about what they're doing. As I said before though, I think there is a good chance that there is life on other planets, probably even planets that used to long ago, but is now extinct.

Idk if any of you have read The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolien, but he wrote about the beginning of Middle Earth based off of beliefs of how this world was created.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything, but I'm telling you what I think...

"All we have to do is go to EVERY single planet in the universe. That will prove aliens do not exist."

Tee hee, and after visiting all the planets in the universe you turn around and see that they have been following you all the time. How a rude prank to do.

more seriously, energy can take different forms, one of them is matter, and it could be possible that if there's a life in our matter, like us, there could be life in other forms of energy. Totaly different "life" we can't even imagine how it would work. That would be awesome, wouldn't it?

I'd guess that Aliens=entities from other dimensions and faster than light-travel = crossing between different dimensions

how about that...

Yeah true aliens from other planets don't visit (other than the "aliens" I talked about earlier) because they have this view when they reach Earth:

This is a result of our great space program with a normal Human attitude of "screw the environment we're making progress". Any smart aliens will turn their ships around and go Ludicrous Speed back towards their home planet.

Ill throw my persective into this,

Out planet, size, location, atmoshpere, life/accident, ect chances range between the Trillions to a Google (google as in number).

And at this very moment the universe has a innumrable planets solarsystems, glaxies and is also expanding. So to take inumurable/finite planets divided by a google would equal you with alot of planets exactly like ours.

No matter the odds of the creation of our planet, Stack it up to infinte/finite amount of planets out thier, then there has to be other life in the soloar system...

I use inumrable/finite/infinite since there is a debate weather or not planets are still being created ect/they are ofc but how many?.

A little persective of mine

Not hardly. A googol (Not Google) is 10 raised to the power of 100.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googol

The estimated number of atoms in the known universe is 10 to the power of 80.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observable_universe

Lets at least be precise. The best estimate of planets capable of bearing life is generally considered the Drake equation.

Nice categorical syllogism.

You eat food, food is matter, poo is made from matter, thus you eat poo?

Based on what? I fail to see how you can even ascribe a probability to things like life forming on a planet when we haven't even ruled out life on other planets+moons in this solar system, much less visited other planets or even fully understanding how it formed here.

Well it's an artists representation of all the junk that's in orbit. Satellites that are active and useful, satellites that aren't used anymore, empty rocket boosters, debris from explosions/collisions, paint flakes, rocket slag, lost tools, gloves, and even frozen astronaut urine all orbit around Earth.

The United States Space Surveillance Network tracks all that junk in orbit. Mainly to make sure when any space agency launches into space they don't slam into any big space trash and kill any astronauts or damage any expensive satellites they want in orbit. Right now there are about 14,863 objects in orbit that are tracked.

The only thing I worry about is nobody is doing anything to clean up all that trash... and every time they launch there is more and more trash added to the mess already up there. If they continue to add to the problem when we do need to leave Earth because of some natural disaster like an asteroid big enough to wipe us out... we won't be able to leave because there's so much trash in orbit it would be suicide to even attempt to leave Earth.

Here's the latest NASA report on space trash (their worried about the same thing I am):

I say we throw up a bunch more until we get ourselves a nice shield. For aliens to dominate us or meteors to wipe us out, they need to go trough our trash first.

Now if something hits Uranus that's different.

Just recently my best friends mom saw a UFO close to her house. It hovered just above the phone poles and she felt the distinct impression that it was staring at her. The encounter wasn't very long but it was long enough to freak her out. It's not every day you get spied on by an unknown entity in a quiet hovering vehicle.

My mom had a similar story. When I was a kid it was late at night and she went to friends house. On the right of her as she walked was an orange grove and a low flying cloud over the orange trees that followed her. Except the feeling she got from the craft was sheer terror... like whatever was in that craft was totally afraid of her. She tried to ignore it but it followed her all the way there. The next day she told a checkout girl what had happened to her and the checkout girl said she saw a UFO that night that flew down and formed a cloud bank around itself.

All matter has gravity, not just solids. Jupiter is made up of a ridiculous amount of gas, so it holds itself together.

Considering comets are nothing more than dirty snowballs the mass wouldn't get bigger by much. Jupiter being a gas giant a comet hitting it would be like throwing a small pebble in a huge lake... a lake that would instantly liquefy the pebble. The biggest comets are about 40km... Jupiter is 142,800km.

I think that space-junks awesome, think about it:

*Shielding against comets and alien attacks,

*helps block out sunlight, offsetting global warming,

*When bits fall into the atmosphere, free firework show!
