What kind of HDTV doesn't support HDMI? I'm confused. It's not really HD then is it? The maximum vertical resolution of component is 525 lines on NTSC according to Wikipedia and that frankly is pants. No wonder you can't see the difference - that's SD in my mind.

EDIT: Attached is a comparison image I ran off my PC. My screen maxes out at 1680x1050 and I run it without antialias. At the top is the image at that near-full HD 1680x1050 without antialias. Then at the bottom is the same image resampled down to a height of 525 - what component can put out if the article is to be believed. As you can see, downsampling it has given it a "false antialias" and the amount of detail in the image has dropped fourfold.

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home
Air cooled, total cost £160

Well that doesn't detract from the point at all that the final output image on the 360 is antialiased and on the PS3 it isn't. If you can't see the true image on your display then really you can't argue that there isn't a difference.

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home

Running from my small SDTV everything has the illusion of anti-aliasing...that's because it's a lower quality image stretched.

No, to be honest, if you're playing the game and not analyzing each and every frame nobody should really be able to tell the difference. The beauty in Fallout is in its attention to detail and massive world, not whether the edges of objects are jagged or not.

Though I used to play it over composite and that really isn't good. All of the picture data is shoved down one wire in analogue and as such even at low resolutions it looks horrid.

I apologize, it would seem you are correct. His TV is 720p in any case so it doesn't really make any difference either way. The image will still be downscaled. (though not as much)

1080i is actually 540p - it outputs half of the screen each frame, on alternate lines. This means that whilst the final image changes 60 times a second and it is 1080p, only half of the screen is changing every frame and so you might see horizontal lines during scenes with fast movement.

I had a 1080i TV for the past few years and saw a noticeable improvement over 720p. Most of my friends recommended using 720p for games, because there are more lines drawn, but 1080i had the illusion of looking better.

A few weeks ago I bought a new Samsung 1080p LCD with 240Hz refresh, so that should last me over the next 5 years

I remember playing Cube games in 480i... Sonic Adventure 2 et al. A slight hack they did to make things look transparent without the performance impact of blend was they flashed them on and off on alternate frames. Which didn't work on interlaced; you'd see scanlines of the object instead.

i see what you mean. oh well i guess it doesnt, it don't matter to m, as long as i can play the game. but it still makes me wonder why they didnt put antialiasing on the PS3 version.

Well, I just got my Xbox a week ago, and obviously its a newer model. The disk drive is the noisest damn thing i have ever heard, so i ripped my games to the harddrive and its virtually silent

I can't see a single difference between ps3 and xbox hd graphics, but then again, i've not played any exclusives.

Xbox Live is also alot easier to use than PSN, you can just add a person to your party, and talk away to them while in a completely different game

Concerning the RROD, it's never even slightly warm...

What i will say is, Microsoft really rip you off, no rechargable battery packs included, as well as no wireless included, so in that aspect its better.

I think the the reason we have so many Xbox vs Ps3 Debates here is simply because... its a gaming forum...

EDIT : seems the topic has changed, sorry

That is true. How bloody difficult is it to put some noise damping in!? It's the DVD drive entirely, it's very quiet without a disc in. It cost £0.10 for some rubber bushings which go in my PC between the disc drive and the cage (like a sleeve on the screw) and have made the disc drive almost silent. Really, is £0.10 too much to ask?

What I mean is why isn't Microsoft doing this? It was ridiculously easy to do to a drive in a PC and seeing as the 360 uses a fairly standard DVD drive with hacked firmware I fail to see how it could be at all that difficult. I wasn't expecting you to crack open your mate's 360 and install rubber bushes... duh.

That's why Microsoft started to allow users to copy games to their hard drive. It checks that the disc is in for under a second, then the game loads from the Hard Drive

They allow you to buy games online, but they're way too expensive ($39.95 for COD 2!?!)
