I keep hearing people saying firefox is getting worse and worse, but they only use it because of the add-ons. I use it because I h8 IE and the addons, but I don't really see what's wrong with, can someone explain.

For me it keeps locking up, just won't load a page, I have to shut it down and load it up again - this happens like 3 or 4 times a day.

Then it often hangs around in the background, stopping me from loading it again until I end the process.

And lastly, every couple of weeks it eats all my user settings for no reason.

Firefox works fine with me. I love it. But I have never tried opera or chrome before, so I can't really say what's better.

Ive tried it all,opera,firefox,ie,chrome and I am using Chrome right now.Its the fastest,doesnt lock up,only crashes sometimes at java stuff cause java isnt fully supported yet.

Chrome has support for extensions (AdBlock, weather, LastPass, etc.) and is super fast. I can leave Chrome running for days and the memory size will not grow. With Firefox if I have multiple tabs open and switch back and forth through various media portals (YouTube, podcasts, etc.) then the memory size can balloon past half a gig in short time. Chrome seems more elegant and appears to render the pages better than Firefox, as well. I was a hardcore Firefox'er since 2004 until about a month ago when I made the switch to Chrome.

The *only* think about Chrome that I dislike is there's no way to Open a file when you click the link. You have to download it, then open it. Kind of bizarre.

It is incredibly inefficient in design, and processor/ram usage. It eats up everything. That's why I love Chrome. Since each tab has its own process, when one tab crashes, the whole browser doesn't crash, which is nice.

Firefox is just clunky. Its one thing that happens when things get popular, they just beef up the features without optimization.

Just my opinion though.

Yah, Google is arguably the king of the web at the moment, so they have really fashioned Chrome into a fast, impressive piece of software. It doesn't feel like it was "design-by-committee" produced, something that I feel when I use IE and Firefox.

Firefox started to go wrong after 3.0.2 for me. It got slower, started thrashing hard drives for no good reason and the stability went out of the window, especially for Shockwave. I grew tired of it.

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home

Firefox stopped doing all sorts for me - loss of bookmarks, loss of user settings, some web pages didn't load and youtube didn't function properly. Instead of solving the problem, I just switched browser.

I love Firefox, but it appears to be getting buggier for some.

Firefox stopped being fast, so I switched to Chrome. It also ate the battery time on my laptop, something which Chrome doesn't do. Chrome FTW

Caveat: Chrome on Mac seems to completely lack any method of organising bookmarks. No idea whether this feature is on Win/Linux, but that's the only minor snag for me

Firefox is really slow, both loading pages and booting up. It would also crash about 2 or 3 times a day, so I switched.

It just seems to buffer everything when browsing around, and never freeing any old memory.
I have to close it down every now and then to free the memory it consumes for no good reason (it goes above 1Gb if you leave it be for about a day). Once restarted, with all the same tabs, it only uses ~100Mb. Which is quite much also, but still...
Then, as others have stated, it crashes to and fro for weird reasons.

Still, I use it though.... maybe I should switch

Yeah me too... it gets annoying.

Never heard of google chrome i'll give it a try.

It actually shuts down the internet for me after a while and I have to reboot about 2/3 times a day. I'm trying out Chrome and have a few questions for those using it.

1/. In FireFox I could assign a number of pages to open if I clicked the Home button but with Chrome I can only assign 1 page, can I assign others?

2/. Where do I access the addons? I can't see any menu/button for them?

I've been a big Firefox fan for about a year now and I just downloaded and installed Chrome. I have to say, it's a lot better and I'm going to be using it from now on. Seems faster overall. Plus it looks good.

Funny, but I switched to Firefox because IE8 was doing the same thing to me. I've been using Firefox on Windows 7 for about 6 months without a glitch.

Does chrome display pages properly - basically the same as IE and Firefox, or are there obvious differences?

The only issue I've had with Chrome is that certain websites require IE for some reason, but I've only noticed that on the Realtek driver site and signing in to Windows Live (which I think has been fixed now).

I will live forever or die trying.

I've been having problems with CPU Usage with FF. It used to never eat up my computer but the past couple weeks it's been pretty bad.
So I downloaded Chrome and it seems a lot faster anyways so I've stuck with it.

Signature's are stupid.

Chrome doesn't seem to work for me. It regularly fails to connect to certain websites (like Google!) and images rarely show up.

Because of this I'm now a Chrome user... it is a lot faster and overall better looking. Using the link you posted on getting the extensions working Adblock works really well too. I just had to learn to use Alt-W to block all similar ads instead of Alt-B that'll only block on that specific page.

Unfortunately, the computer I have Chrome installed on is slow, so I can't give that high of a review for it; all internet browsers are slow as heck on this computer, which sucks. I'd install Chrome on the fast computer, but we don't have any spare hard drive space.

I do like Chrome just for its simpler interface though. A lot less clunky! The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a search bar, you have to open up a new tab to use Google (I just leave the first tab open for Google). I kind of hope they fix that, but it's a small gripe and won't stop me from using it.

The address bar is also the search bar just put what your searching for in the address bar and it automatically google searches what you need.

Have you tried Opera? I'm using it on an ancient PC at the moment while mine is in for repairs, and it seems less resource-intensive than either. The interface is pretty nice too.

Well Chrome does have a problem with the search engine on here. The back button after search is completely lost. You have to type your search again.

Type vectors in search. Then look at one of the threads, then click back. The list of threads has gone. Firefox would resend it. But my search box was erased as well during my last attempt. It depends what page you were last on.

As far as I know, you can't. However, my recommendation is to put the tabs that would open on the "new tab" page, then make the new tab page your home page, and just scroll-wheel click them all. Only takes a few seconds.

I take back what I said about Chrome not being so speedy on this PC. I cleaned up the hard drive a bit, did a defrag, and now it runs VERY fast. I really like it.

Have you ever tried Chrome? It runs different parts of the browser in separate processes so it doesn't risk crashing or locking up like FireFox and IE does.

I'm generally an Opera fan, but I mainly use Firefox simply because it has some of the best addons that allow me to debug websites and such and check sites for validation.

Temporarly away from the Phoenix Sentry.

I use Safari, its visually more impressive, and has a cool 3D top sites and history features which look like they where taken from itunes.

False. Chrome lacks majorly in the JavaScript and expansion area. It's developing slowly, but it's a sin to claim it's a "full browser".

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have any proof to back that up? I work in web development and have found, through no controlled experimentation but general use, that Chrome handles JavaScript better than IE and Firefox. I work with the Dev branch of Chrome, which is currently at version 4.0.223.11, which is hardly a beta. Of course I do switch between the four major browsers when testing, but Chrome handles the intensive pages best in my personal opinion. Also the browser handles the major Google sites without a hitch, and they are arguably the kings of JavaScript.

I am a web developer too, and though Chrome is GREAT at handling JavaScript, it has yet to handle more advanced things to the full potential such as a combination of AJAX and JavaScript. I think honestly the most developed in the JavaScript area would have to be Firefox, and for rendering Opera (a little too picky sometimes). As for Internet Explorer...let's not go there.

I notice when using Chrome for JavaScript intense sites, it tends to bug out or go slower.

Of course, I only use Chrome now for Google Wave (I was one of the first ones to be part of the developer preview, no lies, I have proof if needed.). It works well with that (naturally).
