There's different opinions about a 'before' the Big Bang, simply put, with the current evidence and what scientists have deduced from that evidence, we don't know anything about the Universe before the big bang - whilst some suggest that there might be nothing before the big bang. From my understanding, nothing explains where the matter to cause the Big Bang, so there's a number of possibilities. People might speculate from the "Big Crunch" a hypothesis proposed as a result the deceleration of the expansion of the Universe, that there is a cycle of big bangs and big crunches...but that is only speculation.

My scientific knowledge is not past GCSE level, so I'm probably going to told that I'm completely wrong.

It's still unknown exactly what there was before the big bang. I'm not a scientist either, and I won't lose any sleep having never found out, but if was given the opportunity, I would like to see exactly what there was before it. Some say there was 'nothing', and others say there was God. Either way, I'd like to know, and find out what "nothing" really is

Possibly.

A lot of the Big Bang science is still being explored, so it's a difficult one to say whether or not there was something before or not. How would we be able to collect that evidence?

Alas, they are two separate theories. As is gravity. So is natural selection. Just wanted to make that clear - I get into a lot of online debates and there's a lot of misunderstandings between 'evolution', 'natural selection', 'the big bang' and the term 'theory'. This is of course, is not implying anything about your views.

You brought up Evolution whilst Big Bang was being defined in a discussion, but so long as we agree not to push it further than that, then that is fine as I'm sure it won't step on too many toes. But whenever we slip into religion, science or politics, I am always welcome for questions/debate via email so long as it remains respectful.

Oh, I'd probably be born near the end of October, 1988 if I had anything to say in it. While my life isn't perfect, I do feel this is the most amazing time in the history of mankind to live in until now, and as for the future - naah.

I do actually love my life.

A black hole is a single point in space that warps reality super density matter focused to a degree that gravitational pull will even attract photons.
Flip it.
What if the big bang was a white hole? These things last next to nothing but produce increable amounts of matter and energy.

So i theroy the black hole in the centre of our universe could attract the planets. The big crunch.

Then for this to exsist a white hole must then balance this act creating the equal amount of mass and energy.

I cant be the only to think of this surely?

The last time that was exciting, at least as I can tell, was either the fall of the Berlin wall or the space race. Things have gotten pretty quiet since then.

Maybe exciting isn't the best thing to be going on though. On the bright side there is a war on - maybe you could head over that way and enjoy the "excitement"

My job in the...Air Force...very rarely takes me over to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. And when I do go to those places, it's only for a few days. And no, I'm not some admin guy flying a desk in a building stateside. I've got about 26,000 hours in the past nine years flying in a plane as part of the crew, not as a passenger.
