it's been red since day 1
that means it's busy (lots of activity vs. time elapsed - probably a nice function in PHP)

Actually I know this really cool guy...he left secondary school because his grades were bad, and dived staight in to the IT industry(in the UK). He was so good that he got hired at Dell(as a technician)...then left and went to an even bigger firm cant remeber the name now but it was more software-oriented...and basically that's the man you need...though I'm not sure he wants you contacting him sorry!I could ask but i dont think the prob is that serious i bet someone here knows...

Heres your solution:

1. Put up with no sound till you have enough money to buy a new computer.
2. When you have the money, do one of 2 things:

A)Sell the wreck on ebay for about $200

B)Bring it to the nearest highway, and kick it right in front of a speeding car. It'll give your more pleasure seeing the thing that tortured you so much get blown to bits and plastered all over the roads pavement.

3. Go buy a better computer. You can get amazing deals now for about $700

despite me wanting to say what NWC_O said, figure out what damn sound card you have, and then download the damned drivers for it.
Install the god-foresaken drivers, reboot (whilst sacraficing a chicken) and hopefully (for you) your sound will then work!!!!

What do you mean by you have no sound?
Do you get error messages when runing media player/winamp?
When you try to play games?
Or is it apparently working perfectly just no sound?

Check the volume isn't too low or muted. Check the lead hasn't fallen out of the back of the card. Check the speakers still work.

Sometimes big companies like dell will use oem only (mostly onboard) sound cards. It's the responsablity of the comp manufacturer(dell) to supply drivers for these cards. If you didn't get the drivers off either the dell driver cd or the dell website you might want to.

If it still doesn't work disable the onboard one in the bios and go buy a cheap sound card.
