So, i've got my earphones plugged into my vista laptop, (service pack 2), and i'm listening to music. It's coming out the earphones like it should.

Then when I press backspace, the 'ping' you hear, comes out of the speakers :s.

What the hell? Why's this happening?

thanks

Well, I'd say that is probably more related to the computer itself, or possibly the sound card, rather than vista.
Strange though.

How do you have your headphones and speakers plugged in at the same time? Do you have a control pod for for your speakers, or a jack on the front of the main speaker?

I dunno what could cause that.

EDIT:

Oops, skimmed the post and missed the whole "laptop" thing.

Blame Realtek. Terrible company.

As far as I can remember, system sounds can be set to be played through their own audio device. You'll most likely find how to change this if you google it, but I'd also recommend disabling the on-board sound in the BIOS if you can (assuming I am right and you do have a dedicated sound card).

Thanks for the replies guys, it was really quite creepy. I turned it off for the night, and when it turned it back on, it appears to be fixed.

Does this get reset when you restart? just a theory...
