BearCDBP kind of hits the nail on the head.

You've got to view films as setting out what they wanted to do. I hated Dirty Dancing but I couldn't call it a bad film - it no doubt pleased it's female audience etc.

300 set out to be a ridiculous comic book macho feast. Anybody who complains about it BECAUSE of this is missing the point. Fine, you may not have liked it - it doesn't make it a bad film. In fact, given what it aiming at - it is a resounding success.

I really like the 90's thrillers, like Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Usual Suspects, Goodfellows (best mafia movie ever). I like 80's horrors too, Pumpkinhead, Pet Semetery, IT.

But my all time favorite is and will always be Aliens.

Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later, The Matrix trilogy, Bill and Ted (so funny , excellent dude) Ocean's Eleven, Inside Man. Thats all I can think of right now.

I thought LOTR was incredibly good but they take so much effort to watch, I usually just end up shamefully skipping to the fight scenes.

The Terminator movies are my favourite.
Equilibrium with Christian Bale is also a good film, Poltergeist I & II and the HellBoy's.

Del'toro is one of my favorite directors and story tellers. If you haven't seen it you have to pick up Pan's Labyrinth. His creatures designs and the whole story is just insane. A fairy tale for adults.

There are actually 4. The forth one stars the kid from Terminator 2 (grown up of course). I didn't care for that one, which is why I didn't list it. I really didn't think he fit the part.

EDIT: On second thought, probably shouldn't post the link, it's a little violent Search Youtube for "The Crow shooting scene".

No bandwagon jumping here. It's an incredible film and to say it's the most over-rated film of all time is a pretty incredible comment to make.

For some reason I thought you were into filmaking, maybe it's another forum member and I have you confused. Both the films you list as overrated are brilliant stories, fantastically told.

@Gil - No offense but I don't like nearly all of your favourites... I guess that's good that everyone has their own opinions Pulp Fiction was great for its time. Most people here were probably not even born in 1994 when the movie came out. It was shocking and original when it came out. Now it feels like 50% of the movies have shocking tension and timelines that jump around.

I especially hate Pirates of the Caribbean and pretty much any Disney-fied movies designed to sell theme park tickets. The storylines are predictable, the characters full of Hollywood versions of "pirates" with eye-liner, and a world where magic fights magic---- laaaame. I'd much prefer to watch a piracy movie on, say, real Nigerian pirates. That would be cool

My favourites:

- The Shining
- Fargo
- Primer
- Memento
- UHF (for a laugh)

I enjoyed the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. But then Disney had to go and try and make a trilogy out of it (and now a fourth movie, or so it is rumored) and it completely ruined it. I think I really only liked it for the swashbuckling scenes and music anyway...

Random (kind of), but Jeku, wasn't it you a few months ago that posted about an independently made sci-fi film about time travel? I remember being fascinated by that and wanting to watch it, but could never find it again.

Ta-daa.
That also happens to be one of my more liked movies.
The sphere is worth mentioning, so is Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind, Up, The Illusionist, Das boot, Back to the future series, Terminator 2, The Alien series, The curious case of Benjamin button.
Also recently been a fan of 500 days of summer because it dared to actually do another take on love movies.
Honestly, my taste is all over the place, and because of that, probably very uneducated. But I enjoy most good movies, as stupid as that sentence is.

WHAAAT??

Eh, I'm not a fan of horror, but I know it's a classic. Just not my kind of movie.

I loved the Matrix, that was so cool.

I am still pretty young, so not much under my belt. But back to the future was cool. And Die Hard. That was cool.

I actually enjoyed 500 Days of Summer, it surprised me as a love story.

My wife and I watched The Engagement a couple days ago, the movie made me feel so uncomfortable that it was hard to watch. Then Betty White showed up, and it was funny again.

I've seen so many horrible movies recently, zombies are scraping the barrel with Zombies of Mass Destruction, and SAW got severely ripped off, badly, by Nine Must Die. Really you are better off checking out a movie listed here, even if it's 20 years old.

I really like the Shining, but I always hated that 1 scary part with the old chick in the bath, that's pretty nasty. Apart from that it's thick with atmosphere and is one of those movies that have to be watched. It's got a lot of what I like about that era of horror movie. It's by Stanly Kubrick, every movie he made should be watched - Clockwork Orange is incredible too, I find that movie fascinating.

Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness. Right up there with Lord of the Rings and the classic Star Wars movies as one of my favorite trilogies of all time. It's a little gory though.

I was surprised by how much I actually like Pirates of the Caribbean... I think the fact that I came into it expecting a clichéd pirate movie made it more surprising, i.e the pirates are trying to give the treasure back rather than steal it etc. I also like the pirates vs India Trading Company idea. That, and the exceptional music.

In the UK that was advertised as a children's film! Dumb advertising companies, why don't film companies make their own adverts?
and why do ALL film trailers have "THIS YEAR" in big letters somewhere in them???? Pisses me off, and why do we still have the man with a sore throat doing the voice-overs?
Sorry I worked in a video store for 2 years

Me too, whenever I see an old film I think "god films are terrible these days" but it makes sense, there are always good films just there are more better ones from "the past" because films have been made for nearly a century now, I can't stand people who refuse to watch a black and white film or will only watch a film if it has come out in the last month or worst of all, choose to watch a remake over the original

Lol! PL is rated R here in the states, it's way too intense for kids. Lot's of cutting, shooting, biting off heads and blood. Though it's the artsy style cutting, shooting, biting off heads and blood sort of thing.

I know where your coming from OBese87, a lot of trailers seem to follow a generic guideline. It's the same with their posters and movie cases. There is a movie massacre episode where they explain how 90% of all movie ads, poster and cases use the same font.

Ah, also if you haven't seen JJ Abrams Star Trek, I highly recommend it. Epic sci-fi-ness. Was incredible on the big screen, the cinematography is some of the best I've ever seen. Not to mention the trailers were just as epic.

Edit: Sorry, though it was MM, but it was actually this guy who did the Trajan bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t87QKdOJNv8

Probably one of the most interesting and yet slightly humouring movie's that I've seen has to be The Law Abiding Citizen, despite being overrated. It's just how the plot unravels and what happens next is completely absurd and yet interesting.
