Yeah, because when you watch old films, you are seeing the best that were produced, whereas today you are seeing both the terrible films that were made and the great ones. In 50 years, people will only be watching great films from today (like Lord of the Rings, for example) and thinking how terrible most of their films are.

Movies aren't becoming worse because somehow filmmakers have become stupid and inept as we gain more experience in film making. There are just more filmmakers and more films in general, so the number of bad films out there is a lot larger .

I just watched Rope this weekend. It's one of the most suspenseful movies I've ever seen. One of Alfred Hitchcock's best.

Another series of films (maybe not including the 4th as I've not seen it) is Indiana Jones

None of the new sequels to old...ish films have given me the urge to watch them since Alien:Resurrection put me off
