No. We are not all. I am not. Shadow is not. Budokaiman is not. But you are, at least you should be. Errant AI is. Kravenwolf is. Bond1 is. Catch my drift? It's elementary.

cormorant valued members are mearly members that can show respect and are able to help people that need to be helped. any one is a valued member. besides the 3D section really could use more members. so by default every one is values (except a few pests)

Are you considering ME a pest? I may have to help to offer but that's not because I have no helping intentions but because I know nothing about 3D modeling.

I wish that was true but truly if there's one thing I know about the TGC forums, it's that to be a valued member you must show respect, be a large part of the forum community AND be well known and/or make awesome stuff. Although it's pretty hard to make awesome stuff and not be well known and a well contributor to the community. overall there are a lot of people that are nice, but just truly don't do anything.

It all depends on how you look at the term "Valued Member", be it from the token some have next to their avatar, or some list you have in your head. Each of us have our own list of who we think the valuable members are, and what it actually takes to qualify them. (ie: for me, it takes people who are more than willing to help, even if they are not professionals)

Quote: "AND be well known and/or make awesome stuff."

depending on the way you look at the term, it may be true that they have to be such, or it could just be another trait that many of them seem to share for no reason. To some, I may (in some rare case) be a valued member, while to others I may seem stuck up, while others may still look at me as just some amateur.

It's all about the perspective, not just in value, but in many "walks" of life.

no im talking more like gamerdude(not to mention names or anything)

ultimate i do agree that it depends on the way you look at the term. i think that if you can make awesome stuff you get kudo's but if your willing to put the time and effort in to start you get more kudo's because why should the people that are already making amazing things get all the attention? when its the people starting out that actually need it.

I agree with Azunaki actually, well sort of, nobody should get more attention, but i think that the new users should get the starting help they need, i try to give as much advice as possible, because well hey, i sure needed it a year or so back.

From an industry standpoint, Maya and 3DS are the standard 3D applications, along some mild representation for XSI. Why? Because that's just the way it is. It's a long-standing tradition and one that has been deeply ingrained for many years.

Because of this, motion capture equipment cooperates well with Motion Builder, which is another Autodesk application, and many of the more tech-driven approaches more or less require the expensive suites to function properly.

Does this make Blender a worse option? Yes, if you are planning to start a studio. But not if you want to make 3D.

To me, Blender is an obvious choice for one single reason: it's free.

Your Salary - Blender License = Your Salary
Your Salary - Maya License = Your Salary - $3,495

Besides, Blender can do a lot of things in addition to modelling and animation. It's a really useful whole package for rendering 3D, including film, normal map baking and anything else you'd like to do.

To be honest, It depends on how dedicated to it and what you wan't from it. If you wan't it to be you're job, 3DS MAX as it's overall more powerfull but if you just wan't to earn a little from it or wan't it as a hobby, Blender is there.

first of all, earlier I was talking to Asteric.

second of all, thank you for the help but i am already going into sound effects.

which also leads me to this: could mods please lock this thread? it's seemed to cause more debate then it has help. I wont be going into modeling and anyone who is and needs help can just feed of the information already posted. thank you.

Google sketchup all the way!

Download the 3D Rad's (Another game engine I used in the past) directx plugin for Sketchup and you can make models easily. If your having trouble you can also download free models through sketchup also.

EDIT: Here is the link to the Plugin: http://www.3drad.com/Google-SketchUp-To-DirectX-XNA-Exporter-Plug-in.htm

if i were you, i would go with blender, to me its kind of easy, its free, has a built-in UV mapper, internal renderer, built in game engine, and much more but thats my opinion, try different programs, and find the one you like.

lock this thread please, like all my others will probably soon be, for I have no use for this, it is just an open thread that is not being use, and has no use to be used.
