Ditto.

This is the only forum I've visited where mode are kind enough to tell you what rule you broke.

Well, the way I see it, there will always be some smart a$$es just fishing for bait, or some mature discussions turning into flame wars because of disagreements or different opinions, and that's when the mods come in to end the fight for the better of us all, so therefore I do respect the mods, because someone has to do it. And it is easy to hate a moderator for slapping or banning you, but would you rather be in there place and be hated? I guess not.
Don't forget that the mods help us all a lot by giving solutions for plenty of our code problems.
We are all just humans, making mistakes and having stressfull moments or different opinions. Sometimes it's better to just chill out and think twice before saying something.

Cheers

Sometimes i wonder if people realize this is just a forum and not the very essence of their life...

In my opinion, the moderation on this forum is a little too much on the strict side; BUT, since all the mods are strong members of the forum that regularly contribute and help others, it doesn't bother me.

If the mods really want some constructive criticism here's some. This is coming from someone who has almost nothing invested in this forum, i don't have time to use DBPro anymore and the way my life is heading i probably won't in the future.

If a thread changes subject, and it hasn't violated the AUP or descended into anarchy, locking it just seems petty.
As has been mentioned, providing a legitimate reason for locking helps a lot. The mods already do a pretty good job at this, but please try to give a good reason for every time you lock a thread. Even if it's obvious to the people in the thread, it's nice for someone who just opens up the locked thread to see why it was shut down.
Never make it personal, using "I", "Me", etc just makes the people feel like YOU have a personal agenda against them and will create an enemy.
Please, Please, PLEASE do not carry on a mod discussion in a locked thread, getting in the last word over and over again. It's immature and only infuriates people who are reading you discuss them while they can't defend themselves (whether or not their defense would be legitimate or not).
In general just be humble about the power you've been given and people will like you and help you out.

Honestly I don't get why people are like Plagues. They're not banned after one noob slap and every thread they go in and say "NO! That's totally not true, w****!" Of coarse I've never heard this but you get what I mean. And personally I think we should go back to actually moderating people on The Posting Competition. That's the main source of the flaming, cussing and u-know-what references. IT got popular and suddenly The Mods stop patrolling, for the most part. I'm not criticizing the mods (your holiness...) but really, go back to that thread. Please. For the orphans. The orphans without toilets, bread, or Xbox 360s.

Side Note: Minutes later, Cormorant5 apologizes for the over dramatic reaction, and possible offense to toilet, bread, and Xbox 360less orphans.

Two moderators have posted in the Posting Competition within the last week. They're keeping an eye on it just as much as they're keeping an eye on other threads (if not more so!).

I based it on if I read a thread author say that GDK is too crappy. That sounds like flamebait.

Nooo.... that would mean I'd have to actually read the posts in the Posting Competition

Just kidding. I venture in there every few months or so.

You do realize that we can keep this going forever, don't you?

I can summarize:

1. I made a very generalized and extremely offensive comment in the old post.

2. Van B locked the thread, stating that we could discuss Python elsewhere. Note that he didn't write a single word about my offensive comment. He didn't warn me. He wasn't even polite about it, honestly. Not that the comment deserved it, but anyway.

3. You say you'd do the same, based on nothing more than Van B's statement in this thread.

4. I agree to disagree and comment on how I believe that moderation should be about the forum rules and not border on censorship.

5. We all become friends, concentrating on making great games using whatever tools we choose. TGC or otherwise.

Listen, that thread was locked because you said you weren't using GDK, said it in a less than ideal way, the thread had quickly turned into a discussion about Python, and it was in the 3D chat area. End of. Mangle it any way you want, I really don't care about a thread that I locked months ago - you are the only one who really cares, because it was your thread.

Sorry if another moderator agrees with that decision, but seriously shut up about it. In fact this thread has served it's purpose and we're just going round in circles with statements and opinions that make no difference whatsoever.

Irony are us. Deal with the fact that this forum is moderated, and that your never going to change the way we moderate, certainly not based on posts we've had to lock in the past.
