Quote: "I wouldn't call that unimaginative, but games are suppose to be absurd so people can break away from every day life. Take all that good stuff out then you may as well just read a book if you want a good story."

But I don't want games that just provide escapism. I could turn your "just read a book" example on its head: if I just want escapism I can watch a fantasy film or something. Games, as an interactive medium, provide unprecedented opportunities for storytelling and I'd just like some people to start taking advantage of that.

i say u spend more time shooting combine (right?) and zombies than u do shooting aliens (i know zombies are counted to aliens, but i dont count em there.)

There are no Combine in Half-Life.

Ulitimately, fun is more important than originality. For example: Portal is way more unique and creative than Half Life, but, honestly, I have more fun playing Half Life. As original (and fun in it's own right) as the gameplay in Portal is, the gameplay in Half Life is just more fun to me. This is probably a bad example though, because Portal is really fun as well.

So I'd rather play a game that is fun but unoriginal than one that is original but not very fun to play.

As I understand it, the Combine are aliens.

In the first game you were fighting aliens from Xen. It turned out the aliens on Xen were taking refuge there, on the run from the Combine. Once you took out the aliens on Xen, the combined rolled on through to earth, the next step in their multi-dimensional empire.

In Half-Life 2 you come back to find the earth taken over by the combine. The Combine that look like humans in suits? They don't look like Barney under those masks. Sure the humanoid Combine troops used to be human, but... http://bizarguy.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d32plyd.
See the combine use local forces to govern planets they've conquered, adding the best features of their enemies to themselves.

Talking about HL2, the next enemies to fight in a game will be real people; just like the deleted scene from HL2 where you control the Man-Hacks to kill people, this will be done in real life to control the population

I like Nazi Zombies because it's escapist. I have very little time on games now. Snippets here and there, but I'm getting an XBox for Christmas so that should change...

Yes HL2 did have a great story, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it has minimal replay value, whereas Red Faction: Guerilla can keep me amused for ages because it's very open-ended. I like open ended games where I can just drop in, play a section, then leave it. Nazi Zombies does this well, join, enjoy the crazy gameplay for a few rounds or so, then drop it - maybe playing another map afterwards.

the general story in that game had as much quality in it as the sand in the nearest playground.
it may look good, but it is full of cat poo and pee.

and the acting was OK.

honestly, sur eit is awesomely fun to just wreck anything you find, but the story just feels like... mweh, why is it even there? I dont CARE about the rebellion and i dont CARE aabout the goverment, I JUST WANT TO WRECK EVERYTHING!!!
