It was my understanding that the people requesting scripts came from the FPSC boards, where there is no talk of code, it's always talk of scripts.

Those people, I really don't think know any better. But I bet they'd start using the correct terminology if someone kindly corrected them.

"Their" describes ownership under "they". And, yes, this one irritates me more than "then" "than" mixups.

If I were telling a joke like, "Two codes walk into a bar and the bartender says...."

It wouldn't make any sense if I said, "Two code walk into a bar" would it?

I partially agree, language should be learned and used properly. People should make an effort to do so because it effects how others perceive them. On the other hand, many places on the internet, like here, are informal and messages are often typed out very quickly so it's unreasonable to expect everyone's grammar to be perfect.

Surely a program will contain more than a single coded instruction?

Thus, codes.

Sure, but you don't write "codes", you write code that the compiler translates to codes.

Code is a mass noun.

I actually watched the entire thing. Not only was it entertaining, but I agree with it as well.

That's because Stephen Fry is awesomely awesome...nyes?

Language is very beautiful and you can see him purposefully using language for its aesthetics to deliver his point, as the rant is a joy to listen to. I love language and that's why I'm a language nerd, any writer I feel, whilst it helps to understand grammar rules to understand that they're only really a guideline because you can do what the hell you want with it, hence I don't get along with grammar checker. As somebody said to me, "grammar checker doesn't understand style".
