To be honest, this game is shockingly crap. Must admit I started getting into it but now I've realised just how pointless it is. Death means nothing, completing the game means nothing, there's no depth to the combat (it's pretty much certain who's gonna win from the beginning), there is no encouragement nor means for people to cooperate (except maybe individually attack one other player). It lacks pretty much everything a decent roleplaying game needs.

I know it's just a little text based adventure, but I'm pretty sure half the people on this forum could do a better job if they new how to do some form of dynamic scripting. I know for a fact I could do it much better. It's not even big headed for me to say that, because it's that crap!

hehe. Good work. Go for a more serious angle though. The comedy angle is a bit of a bad move as logd demonstrates, mainly because it's not actually funny.

I think it is funny.
I like the curious looking rock, I must've looked at it 20 times now.
Also, I was defeated be a giand goldfish cracker who attacked with annoying commercial jingles.

I like the game although I stink at it.


I wanted to learn C++ but then I started having nightmares.
I would scream at night, "AHHHHH!!! THE SEMI-COLONS"

Fallout is absolutely right.

It was pretty good up to the point where you reach Lvl 15 then start again. After that point there's no variation at all, when you look at the big picture, this is how the game plays:

Press F Key many times
Buy better weapons
Press F Key many times
Buy better Weapons
Press F Key many times
Buy the best weapons
Press F Key many, many times
Reach Level 15 and Repeat

Of course we do have the PvP battles, but what's the point when you already know the person with more Experience always wins.

Finally as a Level 12 Page (who's married Violet, has a Stallion and obtains the best weapons/armour) I've decided to stop playing because there really isn't much point anymore, then again, there really wasn't much point 27 levels ago. When I was still a Farmboy my biggest goal was to reach Page and find out what the Curious Looking Rock was and that turned out to be the biggest let down of my life and now I don't even have that to look forward to anymore.

Oh yeah, I also found some of the comedy a bit funny, it was quite refreshing but now it's like hearing the same old joke for the 100th time...

Agreed . Good grief it's a game based in PHP, if it's fun for the first bit then enjoy it-- what, a game is 'absolute crap' if it dosen't stay fun for over a week? Jeez, you didn't even pay for it... what a waste of post space

I've alwaus used the mouse to play it don't know why, I generally prefer the keyboard...

So what the game isn't deep! So what it isn't THAT funny! The Gladiator (for only a "short" while longer) WOLF will kill you in your sleep for saying the game is crap!
Actually, I've been quite bored with it for a while myself, but I can easily get away with playing it at work Since I'm slow at the moment, playing that game is MUCH better than gazing deeply into my screen and has a lot more interaction than reading the DB Forums.

Calm down yourselves boyses and girlses and those inbetween! Tis just an opinion which happens to be creppe le crap.

But to be honest, I'm still playing it, cos I want to see what happens.

It's not complete thomas the tank, it's just that it could've been so much better with next to no work. How easy would be it be to make a slightly more elaborate shopping system (random weapons available each day) and maybe adding a few specials to the weapons like (gives you 20% more gold from kills, or doubles you chance of finding a gem etc). All the code is in place.

Fighting is dull aswell. It is quite simply L then F, F,F,F,F. It's just a shame that it could so easily be better if the person who made it spent a bit more time, thought it through a bit more and stopped trying to be such a smart alec.

The stuff you could do to violet could be much more elaborate too ... I'm sure MightyE has a bunch of chains and leather straps etc you could borrow.

Uhhh, but anyway. Still a good job for throwing it online Rich. Can't complain about a free bit of entertainment, and that's for sure. It's just a shame its 10% of what it could so easily be.

Fallout, if you're still playing it, it seems a bit extreme to say 'it's just that crap'... you'd have gotten considerably better reactions to your post if you'd made a construstive critism-- like the one abvoe-- instead of what you originally posted.

It's a faithful recreation of a BBS game invented back in the 80's! "Depth of play" was never high on its agenda, it was just a quick bit of fun you played while you were paying by the minute to be dialled up into a text-only environment. The idea was never to expand it, it was to bring it into PHP and that's exactly what they've done so all credit to them.

It IS open source, if you think you can do better...

I slayed the dragon AGAIN!
I am now "Legionnaire WOLF"
That title kind of sucks and I'm looking forward to changing it again
I am starting to wonder how many levels there actually are and what happens when you reach the last one. I don't know if the "F" key on my keyboard will hold out long enough to find out though.
There should be a divorce option for Violet. Now that I am a Legionnaire, I deserve better than a lowly barmaid for a wife.

Another interesting thing is that the Dragon definately gets harder as you go up in rankings. I actually lost to him the last time that I fought him, and BARELY beat him on my second try!

I haven't been too inspired to do much programming lately. I still use Classic every once in a while and I have the Alienware version of Pro that I've been messing with. I'll probably ask my wife to buy it for me for Christmas.

If a copy of Pro was on the line, I'd be more than happy to start over.

Gems come rather quickly. You should have enough by the time you slay the dragon the first time. Besides, gems have other uses and someone would be CRAZY to part with them.

I slayed the dragon for the 5th time. I am now Centurian WOLF, the most feared man in the realm.
