Hi guys. I'm looking for a water type effect, I've got an item I'm making for the community pack and could really make it work like a charm if I could get this effect added. Has anyone made a shader similar to this? Tried the search with no results.

I can pay to have one made if needed, but would like to be able to include it in the pack (in other words, I'll pay for it, but would like the option of giving it away after it's paid for) . Thanks my friends.

yeah those are geared more for surface effects. Thanks for the reply.

What about Bond1's 'Animated shader'(I don't know the exact name of it off hand)?
I think its the one that you can use to add moving displays on TV screens, Monitors and such alike or flickering things.

Ok. I'll spill the beans. What I'm trying to do is create a large aquarium type setup, with large 1 unit high glass windows, something like what you might see if you were on Captain Nemo's Nautilus submarine. I want to use a shader for the glass panels to give a similar effect as in the video.

Could you not make a entity or segment that uses the water shader?

Hmmmn!
do you think the effect would be visible from the side?

Nope! does'nt work.

The water shader applies the "wave" effect only to the "top".

Here is an example of what I have in mind.....

Simalar to the video.

I think it'd be difficult because it wouldn't be self contained and would require a world view taken from FPSC. I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about, but I once asked and was told that there would have to be an additional camera for this type of effect, which is something the engine can't currently handle. If it could, it'd open up whole new shaders like mirrors, ice, glass, realtime reflections in puddles or on entities. It can be done with fullscreen shaders because FPSC simply uses the existing frame to create the effect. If this could be done, it would be awesome.

Maybe this would help you ?

It gives refraction to a glass depending camera's position, with more digging, maybe it could be changed ?

Bond1 created some shaders for his Metro Theater pack ( The puddles) which look, and work great, but show "round, pond type ripples" which would'nt work for this.

I'll keep playing around, and see if I can find something that works though.

I'd say just replace the normal map that is associated with it. That's my guess how it works.
