I don't really care about the data on the netbook, I just need windows 7 back on the computer. I have the product key. Where can I get a windows 7 installer?

Im thinking that IF you have the product key, it MAY be legal to use a torrent. Not sure though...

Ok, so I found this:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc.html

I'm going to see if I can fix it with this. It would be nice if anyone has any other suggestions though.

I'm going to use gburner virtual drive to mount the file.

Doesn't Windows 8 screw up the bootloader?

Can't you just install GRUB bootloader? It should detect all the bootable partitions on the hdd, including the Win7 factory restore one that is hidden (Assuming it exists still, of course - thumbs crossed). Boot into that partition and you can restore your system. Hope this helps. Worx with PCs.

Thanks for the tip nonZero. I'll try that.
Wait, that will just do the same as if I had installed windows 7 the regular way, except it will keep the drivers that my pc uses.

Edit: I am done re installing the OS, but the drivers for bringing up the hotkey graphics aren't working, or maybe I don't have them, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Oh well, the keys work.

I suspect if the keyboard works and it's just not displaying the custom graphics then you're using Win7's default drivers (Win7 autodetects most devices these days with about 90% accuracy). It may also be a setting. Check your OEM's website, you may find the drivers there. Also, Win7 rejects drivers if it believes its one are better (Had this issue with a gamepad of mine) in which case you'll have to manually install and set the drivers.

Well, I downloaded the windows 7 iso from here(not a torrent):
http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc.html

Then I mounted the file using gburner virtual drive.

Thanks for the info nonZero, I will be fiddling with that. But do you know how to change the default amount the volume changes when I press the increase volume button. Right now it only moves 2%.

If you're going to be replacing your main volume, you'll have to burn the iso to a disc and then boot that disc, then install like normal.

Alternatively, you can copy the files from the iso into it's own, separate, partition, then run the installer from that partition. The installer is smart enough to let you do that.

I always took that for granted lol. I've never actually tried to change that setting so I wouldn't know. Maybe try the windows forums?

Most of my computers change it by 10% or 5%.

Wow, I always got +/- 2% for media keys and 4% for the mouse wheel so far as I remember. Even my Laptop's Fn + VolKey gives me a 2% change. Well, at least that proves there must be a way to change that setting. Maybe the increment's up to the drivers?
