That's a shame.

The website seems to function very nicely though.

I recently started listening to more Reggae and Dubstep. I find that I like the "instrumental dubs" (no idea if that's the right term) more than the lyrical dubs. For example, I like True King Dub, by Midnite.

I watched the movie "Tetsuo: The Bullet Man" yesterday (interesting to say the least), which had a nice industrial soundtrack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0FlfC439fE&feature=related (all those embedded youtube videos seem to slow down my browser quite a bit... hence mostly links this time)

Or how about Eisenfunk - Pong

Unkle has some pretty cool songs as well, whatever genre this may be.
Burn my Shadow
Hold my Hand

Most of the music used in Robert Rodriguez' and Tarantino's films, like Planet Terror, Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn, El Mariachi/Desperado/Once upon a time in Mexico, Machete, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Death Proof and Inglourious Basterds is also quite nice. So are some songs by Chingon, the band of Rodriguez.

But most importantly...

I usually end up listening to old grunge and rock albums. Currently listening to 'Last Cup of Sorrow' by Faith No More - I've been listening to Pearl Jam, Blind Melon, NiN, Rammstein, The Prodigy, and even some Jochen Hippel remixes for extra retro flavour.

I need to get some new music, but honestly I haven't found a new band that I even moderately like in the last few years. Thank god for Pearl Jam, that's all I can say.

You've got a nice taste there Van B. As for new music, I am not sure what to recommend, NiN and Rammstein fall under the category of Industrial, there is a subgenre of it called Aggrotech which includes bands like Combichrist, Psyclon 9 (might not be to your taste) and Grendel. Heck, if you like Progidy you might like them.

Combichrist were touring with Rammstein a couple of years, it's possible you'll enjoy them.

I am not big on the Industrial/Aggrotech scene, so I don't know that many bands, but I do like the 3 artists I listed.

[Possible Bad Language, Combichrist are known for it]

There were also used in the trailer for the new Devil May Cry game, it's possible they're in the sound track.

And Grendel, as an alternative.

How about Snuff? They'll probably always be my favourite punk band.

@Sepp:

I'm noticing a distinct lack of Amon Amarth so far. I'd imagine that you must be a fan of them.

Also, what of OSI? They've just released their new album earlier this year, and Kevin Moore is easily one of the best keyboardists ever.

As for what I listen to while programming, there's nothing in particular that I listen to. I've just got put Songbird to shuffle a smart playlist with the rules "play count != 1 && last skipped not in last 60 days".

Hmm, you are quite right and here I am wearing an Amon Amarth bandana after having seen them last month, yet no Amon Amarth listed, for shame.

In which case I shall rectify it for you straight away.

I did not know they released a new album, I shall go check it out.

Nobody mentioned Amorphis yet. Suppose I'll have to. This is one of my favourites, enjoy!

Quote: "In XII I missed the classic summons"

Me too. I actually didn't feel like FFXII was Final Fantasy. FFXII is actually more like Seiken Dentsu III (never played I & II so can't comment on those) mechanically than Final Fantasy. I miss a lot about the single-digit FFs.

Quote: "I see you've not mentioned XIII, it was a major disappointment for me, hence I've not even bought XIII-2."

My favourite thing about FFXIII was the preview trailer Glad I didn't own a PS3 or I might have wasted my money one the strength of that trailer. A friend did so I saw parts of his game. I'd actually (and still have) given up on the Final Fantasy series ever being magic again.

Quote: "Lost Odyssey had a pretty decent OST, I've got it myself and enjoy listening to it from time to time. Also, Lost Odyssey was a fantastic game if you haven't played it and I'd argue it's the best JRPG on the 360"

Beautiful piece. You're right, that guitar coming in is pretty awesome, definitely makes the piece really special. I got this FFVI feeling off it, dunno why. Sadly, I prolly won't be playing it as I don't have a 360 (Don't have any consoles anymore aside from my "classics" in storage). Maybe when I get another desktop PC I can emulate. I presume 360 DVDs can be read with regular DVD-drives.

Quote: "Another good OST to listen to is Nier's"

Awesome! Man, I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't become a console-gamer again instead of getting a replacement desktop.

Awesome. I also like Vangelis.

I know metrolyrics.com, I've gone there a few times. Small world.

@Obese:
Bat for Lashes... Nice. My first time hearing. Music video was cool too.

@budokaiman:
Nice OSI share!

For the past week, i got addicted to listening to the "godfather" soundtrack, It has this weird influence on me, it motivates me to be less of a slob and makes me want to dress more respectable.

Anything from Kraftwerk to Ozric Tentacles, Gary Moore to Eric Clapton and Dire Straits to U2. Lately I've also started to listen to the Tedeschi Truck Band.

This is the kind of music I end up listening to most often;

You dodged a bullet IMO. I tried enjoying it, but in the end I was just disappointed.

I am optimistic that FF may one day be accessible to old fans. At least, the major flop of FFXIV actually made SE realise that they should have listened to fans and that's what FFXIV 2.0 is about. FFXIII-2 apparently improved on many things from the first and tried redeeming itself, but the battle system remained the same. But it's progress. However, they will not see me buy a new FF game until I know it's good. I keep hoping on Versus XIII, because it seems to have an FF feel, but we've not seen actual game play yet...nor do we know if they're still making it.

It really is a good game. I can see what you mean about the FF6 feel and like FF6 it has a slight steam punk feel to it (though it's actually magic engines and not steam engines) and also has the air of kings and queens. Well, you get a King and Queen in your party anyway.

Quote: "Awesome! Man, I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't become a console-gamer again instead of getting a replacement desktop."

Lol, that game was pretty worthwhile too, pretty underrated IMO (in fact it got bad reviews). Oh well, as a PC gamer you've at least got The Last Remnant, it pretty much has an indentical style to FFXII, but uses a different gameplay, in fact the battle system is quite weird, but different. Kind of like FF Tactics meets regular FF, whilst characters learn specific attacks, you can't specifically choose them, your attack choice depends on battle conditions. In fact, the PC version is rated much higher than the 360. It's soundtrack on the other hand is pretty average. No Nobuo Uematsu to sooth you.

Talking of underrated. Here's a band I love listening to, but are pretty odd. The singer looks like Hurley from Lost. Some of their albums are fantasy, others are tributes to science. 'Awaking the Centuries' was pretty much about the life of Gallileo. They sing in German, English and Italian (in the case of the Awaking the Centuries album), sometimes even in a single song. Pretty much metal, like a sir.

Yes, he does shout 'Mexico!' in the middle, even though the above is in Germany, I think these guys are quite popular in Mexico. Usually you see responses by Mexicans on their videos on YouTube and some of their recorded concerts are in Mexico.

They're pretty good. I wouldn't rave about them but they do have quite an interesting sound (I youtubed a few studio tracks too). Would definitely pay for a CD of theirs.

I see the resemblance. They are a little odd but I wouldn't say that odd. If you want really odd, try this on for size:
Blood Stain Child - Merry-Go-Round
Blood Stain Child - Dedicated To Violator

^ That's odd.
