Ah right, sorry.

If you guys have a Skype, I can help you out with advice and such if needs be. There's little tricks to streamlining things. For example, with the right level design you can have Guild Wars-esque world portals to transport you to different areas. Surprisingly simple if you know how.

It'll be capable of persistent stats, but you'd need to do some work on the engine itself before it'd be capable of anything very large-scale like an MMO.

Yeah, you'll essentially need to write custom game types pretty low in the hierarchy, negating every set up as far as vehicles, game modes, etc.

Slap on some gloves, and get ready to get wrist-deep in code that has nothing in the way of tutorials or documentation. That's reserved for paying customers.

Yeah good luck on this one. I've got experience with UDK, and I've done some small scenes with custom assets but nothing at the scale of this. Personally I think you're jumping to the advanced stuff WAY to early, this was the mistake I used to make when learning programming. Jumping straight from "Hello World" to Game Development. I suggest taking it slow, learning the basics of the editor, then more in depth stuff, then a basic game, then a big project, and then finally an MMORPG. You gotta learn to walk before you can run.

Oh come on. We're trying to talk with sigs here and you rudely interrupt.

List them.

Sorry, but this project will crash. You're moving from an FPSC game, to an open-world, MMORPG with that level of complexity.

I can tell you that the writing and organisation alone will be herculean. Your own modeller confessed that he doesn't feel he'll be able to keep up with demand.

And you do not have anywhere near the necessary knowledge to edit the fundamental coding and scripting required to make this thing work. Without documentation or tutorials.

Try an FPS, you know the territory, and out of the box you'll get results.

The other thing is, you could work for a decade to assemble this, then people just go and play WoW anyway. You won't knock Blizzard off their perch.

I agree with CG, as fun as it may be jumping straight to the meaty stuff, you'll get lost completely. You have no idea what you're doing at all and you're literally walking on thin ice. Start from the basics and work your way up. Because if you're stuck on something and you get frustrated you will drop the project and therefore waste lots of time.

Oh come on. We're trying to talk with sigs here and you rudely interrupt.

For this kind of thing CG is right.

Lots of people try to code MMOs and find they fail because what they're trying to take on is often much bigger than themselves. MMOs require a lot of skill, a lot of organisation, a lot of management, a lot of content and a lot of work. Whilst it is a possibility, even for a small team, but for a small team they really need to set themselves some realistic goals. It's easy to get overly ambitious, I am guilty of that myself, but you've got to level your ambition with realism and that doesn't necessarily mean erase your goals, perhaps put them away until you've got more behind you.

You've finished a project in FPSC and worked hard and no doubt you're proud of the result because it is an achievement. As somebody who has been pretty ambitious with project ideas and trying to execute them, I would say you need to approach it with realism. Your skills, your time, the time of anybody else you have and their skills and of course your own timeline. My project 'Ronin' would be massive and as much as I want to work on it, I should actually finish the much smaller, 'Abeyance'.

There's nothing to say you can't work on smaller similar projects to build up to it, that might be a good way, but of course you'll find what works best for you and this is advice from a friendly forumer. I think I'd rather see you come out with another project you're proud with (and if with something like UDK, even better, because it's a nice start on the professional path) than one that could potentially become too big and find it's not manageable.

I'd say try learning more UDK and I'm sure you'll be able to assess your own skills more and see how big of a project it would be.

Food for thought at least.
