1. Blitz 3d Runs on DirectX 7, while DBP runs on 8.1 (9 with U5), thus there is a speed difference. This is what has turned me away from Blitz.

2. Blitz 3d is $100 US currency, while you can DBP for that much.

3. Speed in Blitz and Darkbasic really depend on the user and PC, BUT i have found DB to be somewhat faster in instances of higher Poly models.

4. The Blitz Error checking system has it's errors, but it still works.

5. Blitz has a very Sh*tty help system, it requires you to have some understanding of the basic language, and programming.

6. Blitz is an electronic Download only, so you won't have a CD or instruction/refrence manuals.

Thats all i can think of.

In the end it is down to personal opinion what you want. My opinion ended up being DarkBASIC.

I'm sick of Signatures

LOL!
I actually do like Blitz. It is very well organized. Both Blitz and DB are great tools. Both have there advantages/disadvantages and I have no real preference except the many hours that I have put in with DB as compared to the handful that I have with Blitz.

I await my hanging for blasphemy.....

Has its compensations though - it is easier to navigate between commands, each command has full parameter details and there are examples with most commands.

Blitz has a lot going for it, but it is harder for newbies, and less technologically advanced. Though to be honest, nobody has yet really pushed either package.

"Haven't heard that since the 1800s"

really? my friends and i use "copious" all the time of course we're nerds.

you can still do some nice stuff with DX7; you'll just be missing out on shaders. IMO DX8 is, right now, the best.. most people have it and it supports shaders (and the new DX8 model format). DX9 .. i really don't see what's so great about it. you want to see what's now in DX9?

Quote: "Vertex streams now created with a declaration.
Changes to vertex shaders and vertex stream declaration binding.
Added a limited form of flow control to version 2.0 vertex shaders.
Added a scissor test.
Added line antialiasing.
Added support for sphere map texture generation mode.
Added support for displacement maps.
Improved device enumeration support."

from the DX9 help file. i really don't see much groundbreaking stuff in there. oooh line antialiasing, i know i'll be using that a lot. about the only thing that might be interesting is the displacement map.

"And what if I do?"

It's like playing those Math puzzle games in Primary school where you have to find the answer to a riddle by doing complex Mathematical equations.

lol, but we were 1337 speaking within Binary, certainly that must be cool.

When's the runtime error occur? I believe it will happen when you enter anything other then the Binary Format, i.e: 8 numbers then a dash. Letters or enters will make it runtime.

1337 = l33t = leet = elite

Stupid script kiddy crap. Apparently hackers are 'elite', and little kids who want to be like them talk in numbers, eg: 1 AM 0N3 1337 /\/\0F0!

It's stupid never-the-less.

Yea, it's kinda sad. How the heck did a post about blitz turn into binary code?

Guess we're traveling backwards.

Do a binary to ascii conversion, and then you get the message.

We could speak in whitespace! (For those who don't know, whitespace is a programming language consisting entirely of ... whitespace (eg tabs, spaces & carriage returns)

Not sure how you are supposed to pronounce tabs or carriage returns though (maybe "click....wheeeeeeee...ping!")
