Today I released Jellyfish Dive on the Google Play Store..

[/href]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.CrazyProgrammerProductions.my_JellyFishSwim

This is my first project and going to be releasing updates.

Jellyfish Dive is a 2d side scrolling game. Touch the screen to swim up through the objects that appear. Release to swim down. Try not to touch anything or your Jellyfish will die. The greater distance you swim the higher your score. Fish look friendly but watch out they BITE!

New Game Graphics

Things to work on:
Music
Deleting and Repositioning sprites as the game goes on. (Done)
Deleting and Repositions Particles as the game goes on. (Done)
Graphics (Almost Done)
Better Movement of the fish
More color to the obstacles
Speed the game up as your score increases
Friendly Fish to eat for Power Boost(Invincible for a few seconds)

Get a mod to change your title eh?
It says Dive, but your app says Swim at the store and in your post.

LOL
Another Piou Piou clone.

I like the jellyfish idea and the water though.

Jellyfish are cool because if you get stung you have to pee on it.
The place where you got stung, not on the jellyfish.

Yes im going to have to update my menu graphics with the new name. I searched the name on the play store a few days ago.
I didn't find anything with Jellyfish Swim in it. But as soon as I published I started to search and I found that the name has been used a few time.
So I changed it to Jellyfish Dive. The only thing on the store that should have Jellyfish Swim in it is com.CrazyProgrammerProductions.my_JellyFishSwim
I couldn't find if that can be changed.

Yeah, that address is what I was going by, and your description. (hadn't went to fetch the download yet)

Only #12 down the list when searching "Jellyfish dive" in arcade category. SWEET!

Your sensitivity is spot on. It handles well.
Who says you can't use Print() effectively for a Score and Game Over?
Maybe a bit larger though for the text size.
I like the bubbles.

What this game needs is a scoreboard.
I tried a half a dozen times to get the hang of it and the best I got was like 795.

SWEEET! & Thank You for your comments.

That's why I changed my name. My first one was taken. There is not one Jellyfish game on the store that is named "JellyFish Dive".
I figured it would help with the search to find my game.
Also I didn't want any name repeats.

Edit: Thank You for sharing that link with the scoreboard I will get right on that.

Ps: don't feel bad iv played this game over and over 10000 times.
My best score is 2088 on the computer and 1800 something on the phone. Those fish are hard to get around...but not too hard to kill the game.

Very well done I'd say this entitles you to the 'AGK Developers Badge'... Where's a mod when you need one

I agree with CE, a Global Scoreboard would be great. Phaelax's system is really good, I use it in several of my apps

One thing I did notice, the fish, do they not have a transparent background? When they pass over the obstacles, you can see the outline...

Good luck...

I really like Phaelax's system too, as it is very easy to implement and he has a nice website for managing your scoreboards.
Everyone using AppGameKit should definitely check it out.

Had a play through and not too shabby.

My only issue..shouldn't the jellyfish be facing up?

I had looked at a lot of videos and pictures.
Jellyfish are sort of at drift. They really have no set direction to face.
That's my opinion just from what I have seen.
I could be wrong and going to look foolish for assuming.

Quote: "Congratulations on your AppGameKit Developer's Badge!!"

Thanks! It really means a lot to me. ( Been around this fourm for over a decade and finally earned something )

I own DB, DGDK(before it was free), DBP, RealmCrafter and a few other TGC products. Never have I come this close to a finished product.(Although I didn't spend much effort before and was still in Middle School / High School.)

This just comes to show how great of a tool AppGameKit is. I come back to TGC after not even picking up a TGC product in 5 + years. Sit down look at some examples and started a project on Feb 11th. Feb 18th im published. I would get stuck and ask for help on the fourms. Funell was there to rescue me each time with perfect explanations(Not discrediting anyone else who presented examples. I just could relate to Funells) I LOVE AppGameKit! cant wait to see what TGC does for the 3d commands.

HIGH SCORES ARE LIVE!

Everyone enjoy competing with each other. No rough housing!

Update the app and try it out!

I got everything ready to click publish on it. Its saved as a draft atm.
The thing with Google Play there isn't actually any human testing.
Its all computer generated. Im guessing to check and see what your app is trying to access.
Amazon in the last page describing your game asks you to give the testers some instructions on how to play. Which makes me wonder what there standards are. Kind of hesitant to click publish then get denied and ruin my confidence

Also Amazon is free to register. Where as Windows is $19(Don't know if its one time or recurring), Google $25, ITunes $99(Yearly)

From as far as the diff for Dev Consoles. Amazon was fairly similar to Google. Amazon does ask for a few more details.(For ratings and such)

Also Amazon lets you add search tags to your app.
Google might just do it automatically being the awesome search engine.

The weird thing is. When I google my app, It finds it on the TGC forums before the store.

That's really interesting.
I fancy Google and Amazon. Maybe Windows, is that for their App store in Windows 8?
Apple would have to wait for funds re the 99 yearly fee which is a lot compared to others and also the equipment to create the App too.

Your App is nice, simple and addictive, especially with the high score so I wouldn't worry.

Google Play (speaks for itself)
Amazon (although I haven't released any of my most recent apps here as it wasn't that great in my experience)
SlideMe (one of the best for sure... Definitely get your app on here, its very easy to do, and in my experience, is as good if not better than Google Play)
Opera (I wouldn't waste your time)
iOS (naturally this is also a great store, although you need the $99 dev license etc)

Providing you don't have any 'Links' to Google Play in your app (like a Rate Me link or something), and you do not use In App Purchases again from Google Play, you can load the exact same apk... Unlike GP however, they have an approval process which usually takes about 3-5 days...

EDIT: Also, you app is called JellyFish Dive, right? Only the screenshots on GP and the title screen, still say JellyFish Swim...

Yeah, it seems that everyone and his brother is jumping on the "let's get a percentage of his app" bandwagon.

The number of distribution channels out there now is overwhelming, and I am not sure that anyone shopping there cannot shop at Google Play.

I am seriously thinking about the "pay what you want" model used at Flex-Indie that Moondog shared in one of his threads.
I'm thinking "pay what you want between $1 and $10 with 50% going to a legitimate charity". (Like St. Jude's Children's Hospital)
It seems that something like that may go ever well on our own sites if advertised.
I would rather the Children's Hospital get the money instead of some for-profit distributor.
If we had a portal like that for our games then each of our advertising efforts would benefit each other instead of a 3rd party distributor.
You could still distribute through those other venues of course, since most of them are non-exclusive arrangements.
Anyway, not trying to get off topic, just a thought on these "Never heard of these guys" distributors, and distributing them ourselves.

Make that 5001!

Dude, the fish disappeared, then the borders at top and bottom of screen disappeared, then it just ended when I got over 5000, even though I didn't hit anything!

I guess it was like when Billy Mitchell had a perfect run on Pac-Man and reached the kill screen, only I didn't have to play that long.

@ Crazy Programmer
Can you leave this version up until someone else confirms this by matching that score?
Then, I can say I was the first to reach a kill screen in JellyFish Dive!

I know its the kill screen. Because I set it.

If score > 5000
Print ("Level Complete")
Death = 2
GameOver()
endif

I never thought someone would get 5000 so fast before I updated the game. The reason I did this is because as of now I do not have the game repositions sprites as the game goes on. The map is loaded all from the beginning.
If I load more map with out deleting and repositioning the game gets real laggy. That\'s why its insta death at 5000 for the moment. I will have a fix for this by tm.
Since your just so amazing and have to break the game

I figured as much when it ended so abruptly at 5001.
Was just curious who would be the second person to get there.

Quote: "The reason I did this is because as of now I do not have the game repositions sprites as the game goes on. The map is loaded all from the beginning. "

If only 2 fish are on the screen at one time then 3 would be plenty to make a loop. (no need to delete, just reposition the same ones over and over)
I didn't realize that all of those fish were separate objects rather than the same ones being looped. (missed it in your to do list - I see it now)

Quote: "Since your just so amazing and have to break the game"

Yeah, amazing what a scoreboard and a little OCD can do.
Seriously though, I had a movie on TV that was playing a good song.
I got into my groove, found my peace with the ocean and the yellow fish, became one with the jellyfish, an achieved my Zen.
Looking forward to looping that music when you get the infinite play set up.

Update: Published New APK should be up and running in a few hours(Update is now Live!)
Fixed the kill screen. There is now no score limit.
Game FPS improved. Everything runs smooth now.
Welcome Screen and Menu Title has been updated with the right name.

Ps: Let me know if you notice any changes in play style.
I had to make a lot of changes. I tried to keep it as close as possible. ( I have not noticed anything diff but you might.)
Im just curious.

Edit: I just repeated your score before the new apk was updated
Got it first try. I had no idea the fish died at Score 4200.
That made it easy from there on to hit 5000

Nice work!!
Just had the update, the graphics make it 100% better, the look and feel is a lot more polished now.

One little idea, you could make the jelly fish angle up or down depending on him moving up or down the screen some way instead of him looking to the right all the time but this is a minor thing you could look at.

Well done

Yes I have had this idea...its still a work in progress I cant get him to angle the way I want with him angling up and down fluidly. It works just not the way I want yet.

Glad you like it Paul...Thanks for your comments

Upcoming Updates: To Do List.
New Menu Graphics
Saved Player names so you don't always have the text box at game over.
Saved Personal High scores so you don't submit a score every run.
Jellyfish Movement
(Idea)Fish Moving up and down...I think this would make the game a lot harder. I don't know if its a good idea yet.

WOW! That looks AWESOME!

Did you do the graphics yourself?

I am loving the seaweed as it makes sense being there as an obstacle.(those blocks bugged me)
The new tropical fish are very cool too!
You even made the bubbles better!!
The sand and the water is new; the whole thing is looking brand new, and very nice.
This is really looking professional now.
Well done!

The only suggestion I could make is the sand as the top border should be like sky or something. (maybe with the bottom of it as the breaking waves or something)

I wish I could take the credit but I sure cant. I tried for a week to make a Jellyfish from scratch and after hours of failure I broke down yesterday and bought some graphics.

Soon going to purchase some paint tools and see if I can get some original art going.

Just wait till I update the seaweed. I have animations, I just have to do some thinking of how to do this without major lag problems. I have 8 types of seaweed to play with.

Yes I have thought the same. Only problem im having is what kills the Jellyfish at the top of the map. The Sprite pack I purchased came with all sorts of stuff to play with. Im going to have to do some thinking. I have a few boats I could have racing on top to kill the jellyfish. Who knows its all up in the air atm. The sand at top is just a temp fix for the moment.

Yeah, I was coming back to comment on how the new ones are not as accurate as the old ones.
Meaning the seaweed is not going close enough to the corner of the image, and leaving too much transparency.
The result is an impact that looks as if I never touched it, which leaves the user feeling ripped off.
Maybe your animations can move closer to the edges as to not be square, but be close enough to corners to make it look like I hit it.
Or you can set the size of the shape for collisions slightly smaller than the image, so it would appear as if making full contact before killing the jellyfish.
Then the visible part wouldn't have to be near the image edge or look squarish.
On second thought, if you change the shape size for the collisions on the jellyfish, then you wouldn't have to do it for any of the others for the same effect.
As it is now though, those transparent corners of the seaweed are tricky.

As far as the idea of the fish moving... I agree... and can add that it wouldn't even have to be all of them.
You could have a shark or something that does a varied motion path and comes out randomly or something.
Or, if it came out every 1000 points, then we can keep track of our score without taking our eyes off the play field. (any score can be killer)

I knew about this problem and was puzzled on how to fix it. I was going to make small sprites to hide behind the seaweed till you just explained it to me. Thanks for your advice! I searched physics in the docs and came up with setting everything to Polygon Collision. Now everything is fixed with pin point accuracy.

That's a neat idea! With the sprite pack I purchased yesterday I have all the sea creatures. Sharks, Whales, Turtles, Fish, Star Fish, Jellyfish, etc...Im thinking about having a Character Select screen so you can play what you want and not limit to Jellyfish.

Another idea I had just a few moments ago was adding coins to collect each run. You collect enough coins you get a free life. So lets say you die at score 3k and want to keep on going you use your life and keep on trucking past 3k.

If I do that I don't know if I want to let users collect coins each run and let them accumulate over multiple games or only allow the coins collected from a specific game to be used to redeem a life for that run.
(Could be later used for in app purchase)
Im a long ways away from ever thinking about making money from an app. Just an idea that could be converted later on down the long road ahead.

New APK was just published to Google Play with Collision bug fix.
Should be up and running in just a few short hours.

Then it wouldn't be jellyfish dive though, would it?
I like the Jellyfish...
Quote: "Jellyfish have roamed the seas for at least 500 million years, and possibly 700 million years or more, making them the oldest multi-organ animal. ... wiki"

I'm not too keen on the coins, but I was thinking about pickups earlier and thought of Seahorses.
They are small, cute, and don't swim fast, but I wasn't sure about a jellyfish eating them because I thought they only eat plankton.
I guess I was wrong...
Quote: "Diet

Jellies are carnivorous, feeding on plankton, crustaceans, fish eggs, small fish and other jellyfish, ingesting and voiding through the same hole in the middle of the bell. Jellies hunt passively using their tentacles as drift nets. Their swimming technique also helps them to capture prey; when their body expands it displace more water which brings more potential prey within the reach of their tentacles..... Wiki"

Anyway, that was my thoughts on the pickups for points bonuses.
I hadn't thought of extra lives since you only have one, but that is a good idea.

Forgive me if I am making too many suggestions, but I like this game and I keep having thoughts about how to improve it.
Not that it needs improving, its just that my creative juices flow too much sometime on things that interest me.

I agree

Yes there are lots of things that can replace coins. I would have to agree coins are over rated

Im always open to advice...This is my first project im actually thinking through. I need all the help I can get Your comments are always welcome.

I need to start thinking about whats the next big thing for the game after I update the Menu Graphics. I love hearing opinions.

Edit: Update for collision fix is now LIVE!!

Yes, pin point is right.

New High Score 8498

I have too many scores on the board trying to get that high though, so please delete those if you want to open up some slots for newcomers.
Just please leave my highest score up.
