@Phaelax: That Barbarian thing is awesome!
Loved the decapitation, the hollow sound of the head bouncing, the spray of blood while he sinks through his knees and then that lizard/troll thing coming to drag the body and even kick the head.
It couldn't have been more gruesome in that day and age, hehehehe. Incredible sense of dark, bloody humor these people had.

Had so many combo's for that that time, like overhead shop, the roll, defend, head chop etc.

I remember I got a casing with a poster of a Barbarian look-a-like dude and an absolutely gorgeously looking, barely dressed girl with it( was too shy to pin it to the wall hehehe)

And too many other nice games mentioned here.
Still good to look back and remember stuff from the ZX81(nephew lend me for while), Aquarius, C16, C64, MSX(friend had one) and Amiga days:
(had too many member berries today )

My all time fav retro list:
Outlaw( ZX81 cowboy vs cowboy shoot out)
Space Invaders (ZX81)
Sheepdog( Aquarius)
Burger Time clone( Arcade and Aquarius clone)
PacMan ( Arcade and Aquarius clone Pac Mr. - still love the sounds fx of both of them)
Boulder Dash( C64)
Fort Apokalypse ( C64 - collect the hostages, don't get hit)
Barbarian ( C64)
Donkey Kong ( Nintendo?)
(Winter/Summer)Olympics ( C16/C64 - real joystick killers)
Trial Blazer( C16)
Monty on the Run ( C16/C64?)
Aztec Challenge ( C64 - annoying shooting arrows while running up the temple)
Pitfall ( C64 - loved the rope swing novelty)
Pole Position (C64 -I once was making a clone until my computer died on me)
Spy Vs Spy(C64? - even though I never really got that game)
Ghostbusters( C64 - still see the C64 demo in shop monitors and hear Ray Parkers tune with it)
Impossible Mission ( C64- Can still hear in my head: "Another visitor. stay a while, stayyy forreveerrr!" , "Destroy him my robots!"
Outrun ( Arcade and C64 )
F18 ( Amiga)
Prince of Persia ( Amiga)
Battle Chess (Amiga - loved all the brutal special effects)
Pool Billiard/Snooker(Amiga)
Zaxxon ( Amiga?)
Speedball( Amiga)
Narco Police ( Amiga)
Gloom( Amiga)
Alien Breed ( Amiga)
Lemmings( Amiga)
Cannon Fodder ( Amiga - great tune and shooting some one but not too death, just to lure them in, like in the Predators movie)
Paper Boy (Amiga, can dream that tune too)
Shadow Of The Beast ( Amiga- beautiful parallax scrolling backgrounds, jaw dropping when first time saw that, made me wanna create games + great tune )
Flashback/Another World ( Amiga - fan forever.. )
Zool (Amiga - colorful candy gfx )
Magic Pockets ( Amiga - with Betty Boo's intro tune, which was basically what I liked most about the game lol)
Lotus( Amiga)
Pinball Fantasies ( Amiga)

And I probably forgot a few still..

For those retro remake lovers I came across something interesting I thought ide share
in INDI Retro News http://www.indieretronews.com/2019/06/darkula-brand-new-arcade-game-from.html
A kinda cross between pacman and donkey kong. This opens up a whole new ballroom
of ideas of games that could be remade

I wanted to post in this thread but it's locked
I think it works here as well because i'm pretty sure there was a retro tank game
Very simple use of shapes and colours and some nice particle effects

Ive clicked unlock and made a post so should be ok

I guess allot of games are inspired by retro classics but with there own styles etc
I figure combining retro games in the same indi style of graphics a whole new
kettle of fish providing it is still noticeable that the game evolved from these
like the pacman donkey kong game

That tank game looks good I like it blink its very simple neat and effective with
polished particles very indi in my books

Yeah, most of the stuff was done in 2D back then, especially on the C64. If there was 3D, it was only very very basic stuff, like Elite, Stunt Car Racer, The Sentinel, Mercenary etc.

Titles like Super Off Road wouldn't be possible in 3D on a C64 ( in that quality, that is ).

"The Last Starfighter"

One of my top ten favorite movies ( CGI hits the Silver Screen! )

They should have made the game (I thought I remembered playing an arcade version, but unless it was a bootleg clone on a PC, or Atari did make a handful of machines...) ...

Quote: "
Arcade

A real The Last Starfighter arcade game by Atari, Inc. is promised in the end credits, but was never released. If released, the game would have been Atari's first 3D polygonal arcade game to use a Motorola 68000 as the CPU. Gameplay would have been taken from game scenes and space battle scenes in the film and would have included the same controller that was used on the first Star Wars arcade game. The game was abandoned once Atari representatives saw the film in post-production and decided it was not going to be a financial success.
Home computer and console

Home versions of the game for the Atari 2600 and Atari 5200 consoles and Atari 8-bit home computers were also developed, but never commercially released under the Last Starfighter name. The home computer version was eventually renamed and released (with some minor changes) as Star Raiders II. A prototype exists for the Atari 2600 Last Starfighter game, which was in actuality a game already in development by Atari under the name Universe. This game was eventually released as Solaris.

In 1990, an NES game titled The Last Starfighter was released, but it was actually a conversion of Uridium for Commodore 64, with modified sprites, title screen and soundtrack.

A freeware playable version of the game, based on what is seen in the film, was released for PC in 2007. This is a faithful reproduction of the arcade game from the film and features full sound effects and music from the game. The creators of this game, Rogue Synapse, have also built a working arcade cabinet of the game

An Arcade version like the one being played in the movie is what I always wanted to do for the PC but never got around to it. (emulate that game play, not create a new design)

Seems like a do'er had the same thought... The Last Starfighter ... by Rogue Synapse

lol

I downloaded that and look at the read me file...

I. Requirements:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game is written in Dark Basic (www.darkbasic.com) so the very
minimum requirements are set by the DB compiler. I have run this without
difficulty on P3/256 DDR ram/128 AGP. It did take a bit to reach full speed.
The game does use rapid texture swapping which is the primary source of slow-
down I have noted. The game runs under Windows 98 and up.
I will update compatibility issues as I get feedback.

"

DARK BASIC!!!

lol

now I have to go search the forums... the only thing I found so far is this post, but this was a pleasant surprise this morning.

EDIT
I would also like to do something with GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR , but many other countries would have to be added to the list for the Menu.

This could be a nice turn base multiplayer example with player selected targets and maybe some intelligence gathering strategies at the beginning to determine potential target options.

Just stumbled on this post and so many great memories. Space Quest 3 was always my fave but not sure anyone would do typing adventures again, my kids learned to spell fair amount of words from Minecraft tho so not all lost. The mention of Stunt Driver brings back memories of the original Stunts. Spent sooooo many hours making tracks in that thing. Could be done with AppGameKit no problem!

I just checked it out, sadly its not the original game. Looks more like a remake, different graphics and sounds. Ah I see it has themes.
