I've got a huge 17 inches, but it's bent! Ever had that? Any way to straighten it out? I want to draw on it, and this may cause me problems. I need a fix!

the monitor should have geometry settings in the front or back control panels. if it doesnt they are usually under the case.

We use metric to. Well that's what they teach us in school. But, mine's 800 X 600 Pixels or Meters take you pick. It hurts my eyes when I look at it . Guess which one I'm talking about.

I think you meant "Imperial" (Feet / Inches) - although personally I think we ought to keep both.

Lets look at metric

The majority of people seem to think base 10 is more 'scientific'. It is not by any means whatsoever.

No, but it is a LOT more convienient since our numerical system is based on the figure 10.
I'm a child of the metric system , I mean, what in Gods name is a furlong and how many yards to a mile?

You see if you ask someone how many inches in a mile who knows, but if you say how many centermetres in a Kilometre it's simple 100 X 1,000= 100,000.

Whats with us? (the U.S.) isnt it somethink like one country has the metric system based on 10s, and another country that was our friends used the Imperial System, and we didnt like the country that used to metric system.So we used our friends way, the Imperial System. And then our friend switched over to the metric system. And we're left like losers using the Imperial system becuase we're so stubborn.

the metric system is far superior...unfortunatly i'm not used to it(i know it i'm just not comfterble(i know i spelled it wrong) with it... ) it's much more effecient then the imperial system, america(yes that's where i'm from) is just about the only country that uses it(Imperial)...probably becuase america always has to be different...(so that way we can think we're special )

I haven't had the priveledge to visit the USA - being born in 1970 it's always been metric system throughout my school days but my parents were very much into the imperial system - would be a little strange to think of things in feet and inches - yet it's an everyday thing when I check my inbox to see how I can add inches to certain parts of my anatomy - I blame a jilted ex-lover for spreading vicious rumours about me personally...

Isn't it funny that in England where it is actually a minor offence to use the imperial system in the retail sector, we all still refer to the certain things (ahem) using the imperial system regardless of our age..

I strongly have to disagree.

Metric is far more useful for mathematical purposes, its a lot easier to work with.

The advantages of imperial measurements is that they are easier to visualise and they relate to human anthropometrics more closely - I don't know if this is true or not but there is a story that the length of one foot was decided by just measuring the first 12 men out of a Church one morning and then averaging the results.

Imperial is a lot older than metric, so when you said that we should get "up to date", I presumed you were referring to the newer system whoose origins lie, I believe, in the Napoleonic era (circa 1790). Interestingly enough the metre is roughly a ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole (going around the outside of the Earth) - although I'm told that they actually got the calculations wrong!

I found out a few weeks ago that the Knots that boats use for speed was created by tying knots in a piece of rope, and as the boat moves, the knots in the rope slip between your fingers, and you can tell how fast you are going.

Regarding the foot - I found this extract :

"This measure is supposed to be taken from the length of

Decimeter? lol, if that exists we sure as hell don't use it.
10 milimeters = 1 centimeter
100 centimeters = 1 meter
1000 meters = 1 kilometer

1000 grams = 1 kilogram
1000 milliliters = 1 liter

What's even better is:
1 liter = 1 kilogram

And all our measurements were made to mean something so like:
-The freezing point for water is 0 degrees celcius.
-The boiling point for water is 100 degrees celcius.

Not to mention the metric system is now basically the standard SI units (ie, meters, kilograms, etc.)
