Not all DB programers are about money but this game demands reward.

Toshiba Sattelite, 2GHz,Nvidia GeForce4 420go, Windows XP Home.

if you charge for your game then less people get to play it and therefore you are not as well known throughout the gaming community...(notice the people who have made commercial games tend to hide in holes?)

Very cool man. I enjoyed playing.

Only problem I had was, in (say) the dungeon "crypt" places, if you stand in the middle and "jump" forward, I ended up off screen on the wall, and took a step and fell to my death =(

Same happened when I jumped onto the fence.

But great fun!

must try this one later when I get home as I just noticed the thread. Miss Kitty Fantastico.. I was sure I heard that somewhere before.
Turns out I was right.

But isn't she..or it, dead? I remember some crossbow training accident involving Miss Kitty Fantastico...

Yeah if you read to the bottom it appears to say exactly what Las remembered

Can't say was ever into Buffy much; you will have seen this game before though, as it was released 12months(ish) back in DBC.
Was a good game then and still is today

the silence from the creator hopefully means alot of new levels hehee

Holy frijoles, this thread is still alive!

MKF is Tara and Willow’s cat (technically Tara’s, but they share )… for the non-fanboys, she’s just a cute kitten that appeared in a few episodes of Buffy before unceremoniously disappearing, never to be mentioned again… until a couple years later when Dawn remarked about “accidentally” shooting Miss Kitty with a crossbow. But she is NOT dead. MKF is out saving the world in my game

My plan was to include the backstory to Miss Kitty as little prologue, similar to the comic book in Tito (because I haven’t stolen enough ideas from that game). There is actually a point to the kitten running around a cemetery being chased by undead bears, and more specific goals later on.

Quote: "the silence from the creator hopefully means alot of new levels hehee"

Yup, lots of stuff in work… and hopefully no one will be *cough* disappointed. I’m shooting for 50 levels to call it "complete"; have about 30 sketched out, only 15 built. I have no idea when I’ll release another update… still pulling hair on some serious new bugs. Hopefully it won’t be another year

Lot's of fun.

I think it would be nice to have a feature where you can turn the cats direction without having to make him jump to another tile.

Unless that was done on purpose to make levels more challenging. I ran into a few places where I wanted to double jump but I couldn't because you can only jum in the direction that you are facing and there was no room to turn.

Besides rich's comment about inside the crypts, i Found that the headstones will allow the mr. Fantastico to wedge himself into the concrete if you perform a jump from the right side.

It would be nice to have an indicator when all coins are collected, i know you have the stars over the exit, but if the levels get bigger it may be a pain to get there only to find that there are 2 coins left. Now say you gop and find one stray, you culd come all the way b ack just to find out there must be another coin somewhere.

Other than that, nice work so far. I share the same sentiment as many of the other members. Can't wait for more goodies and levels.

Okay… I’ve updated the demo (http://skwirle.dbspot.com/files/MKF.zip), even though not as much done as I had hoped (and no kitten rescueage yet ). I ended up scrapping several levels that were just not any fun to play… so feedback on the newer levels would be greatly appreciated, especially if any of them strike you are boring, annoying, or somehow lacking in playability. I’m learning towards more “puzzles” even though it’s been a real bunny coming up with clever ideas that actually work.

Changes (to help you determine if you want to download, it’s almost up to 7MB zipped):
- First 6 levels haven’t changed much except for bug fixes and sound effects.
- Newer levels add things like stationary and shooting hazards and pushable boxes (with a surprise inside).
- Monster AI is slightly better… the wandering monsters will try to avoid each other and look for alternate paths. And in the last standard level included, the bear tries to chase you… but the path finding is still pretty simple.
- Added a menu with some video and sound options. The game auto-saves at the beginning of each level, so you can restart a level and/or continue the game later.
- Kitty can no longer jump. Mostly because I’m lazy and restricting player movement makes designing levels a lot easier. Might put it back as a “power-up” in later levels (yeah, power-ups are coming).
- Music: still sucks. Ignore it. I haven’t figured out what to do about the music yet.

My to-do list is still enormous, but I’d still like to hear about any bugs or problems or ideas for improvement. And thanks to everyone who’ve made suggestions so far!

Oops... forgot to mention, the update now has 13 levels total... 5 new ones plus 2 bonus levels.

@Cavex: Could you delete the file Worlds\1\7\crumbles.txt and try again? Might be safer to delete everything and reinstall from the zip, a similar error might pop up later. I changed the level files, and it's reading an older version ( man, it took me a while to figure that one out).

Anybody else who downloaded the first demo: delete the original files before unzipping the new one... sorry about that!

Only Fantastico. I cheated and scanned a cuddly pic of Willow and Tara from a Buffy comic and drew in their kitty. (My attempts to draw the girls by hand turn out amazingly bad)

@Magellan Studios: I emailed the 3DS version to your juno email... let me know if you can't import it.

I really like the way this game looks.
I had an idea as well, it's not directly related to this game, but would be a cool tie in
for people writing other games.

Quite often in movies actors and others make cameo appearances.

How about we make Kitty the dbpro/dbc cameo character for our own projects?
Could be a bit of fun and would also provide a nice community tie in.

What do you guys think? and real skwirle would you mind?

Everything happens for a reason

It fun for all ages!

@Magellan Studios: I think 3ds Max does some funked up stuff to the object axis on export… I loaded that 3DS model in DBC and the kitty’s legs were going every which way. I think it’s straightened out now… I’m emailing you my latest (push and death animations, too)… if it still doesn’t load, I’ll hunt around for a MS3D export plugin.

Also, I’ve made couple more models… low-poly and crude but cute. If anyone wants…

This is the cast of characters so far. Miss Kitty will get to rescue her friends (the Scrappies, since Buffy has her Scoobies) and guide them to safety… if I can fix some weird bugs in the AI code . And there will be terrifying new monsters, such as bunnies and tadpoles.

Thanks, Sir Spaghetti Code (and Spaghetti Code's mom!)

The names on the headstones are people who died on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I've gotten up to season 3… A LOT of people died on Buffy). On the crypts are some of the show's writers.

Holy Crap! skwirle that's amazing! I just played through to the end and I have to say that's one of the best, most polished games I've ever seenmade with DB, and I've been trying out people's games since DBC first came out. Beautiful! Keep up the good work. BTW... on my system, 40 fps gives the best gameplay... I tried cranking the speed up to 100 and it was smooth as silk (but way too fast to play) [AMD 1.3/1.0GB SDRAM/RADEON 9800 Pro]

@Magellan Studios: Appreciate the offer, but I’m not using any real collision detection… wrote sort of my own kludgy alternative in a desperate attempt to gain more FPS. Hence some of my problems

Thanks for the compliments... keep 'em coming . Except adding extra lives, no complaints on the level design?

My girl friend just seen something ...
You hide a Garden-dwarf in your game !!!

anotehr detail.
When you go out of a vault, sometimes monsters is just in front of the exit, so you lose 1 life... There are no way knowing if the monster is just in front of the vault entrance . You should make something to prevent this.
