Search "moderator" on the general talk board (yes, there are other boards than this one ).

The multitude of locked threads should explain everything.

And it also pays not to be an a******e, which, thankfully, none of the mods seem to be here.

No it isn't! Someone with too much time on their hands is not a step, it's more of a description.

Have too much time on their hands is a step.

(I can't believe I'm saying that)

Why it was in the DarkBASIC forum I will never know...

Anyway!
Am I right or am I just sounding like Rimmer from Red Dwarf in the episode where he gets a holo-virus?

I would have to go with dj_chainz,'Someone who has too much free time on their hands' is a step because if you haven't found out already all the mods spend much of their time here. Of course their are some exceptions to this, but if you want to be a mod this is one requirement of the job.

That is also correct, but a person who actually points this out is .................... Anyway, their are alot requirements to being a mod, and newcomers basically have no change of becoming a mod in their first year of the forums.

Another step:
6) Moderators are also very mature, and use proper spelling and grammar (for the most part)

It seems something is seriously wacky with the arrangements here.

I locked a thread with 3 posts in called "how do you become a moderator" in the DB talk forum.

It then locked this thread, in General Talk.

Weird

How to become a mod:

1) You must fall 50,000 feet without a parachute onto a mile long cement block head first while carrying on a conversation with yourself in ten dead languages

2) After you survive that, you must juggle a dozen Bomb-oms while beating Super Mario Bros...with your nose. Oh, yeah, and dropping a bomb-om sets it off, as does dying or blinking.

3) You must single-handedly beat twenty ninjas with a blind fold on,
with your hands tied behind your back, and cement on your feet in the Pacific Ocean.

4) You must steal the Mona Lisa and bring it back the next day.

5) You must survive AIDs.

Oh, yeah, and maybe knowing a bit about DarkBasic could help...

That's not true, Rich is my arch-nemesis. We have regular duels to the death where one of us seemingly escapes whenever their life is about to be quenched. Thus allowing them to return to fight again next week with no carryover of injuries whatsoever.

Oh, and Chenak, I have deleted your post because it was just going to cause a lot of flaming. This thread is playful and we're all joking. What Ozzum said wasn't meant to be serious and it's hardly offensive.

Irrelevant to the conversation, but a funny story none the less. You see, one time I said something to the liking of "Sleep fixes all, so just go to sleep", well, unexpectedly, they said back "What about cancer and aids?".

Anyway, to become a moderator, you must be fluent in klingon and 1337.

Discover the search function, so you can read all the other threads that other stupid kids have started about "How to become a moderator".

Edit:
Also learn the basic grammatical rules:

1. Start sentences with a capital letter.
2. End questions with a question mark (?)

My guess would be that atleast a couple of them are under age, possibly still going to school(the best time to slack off and come to the forums and moderate).

In any case, just to answer the question..

Be a good citizen on the boards, dont talk crap too much, and maybe one day they'll ask you to become one. I dont think you can simply apply for the position, there's recommendation involved from other mods, and you have to have helped lots of people already.

Oh, and if your a really attractive female, you could always send your picture to Rich.. I'm not sure he's seen one before, so he might just make you one for the fact of first contact and good relations.

Yeah. Rich is probably the luckiest guy on the friggin' planet .

Quote: "And no one knows how to become a mod accept the mods and there not telling"

As has already been explained, there is no process you complete to become 'mod applicant'. If Rich needs mods, he looks around and picks some people he finds trustworthy on the forums. That does not mean everyone trustworthy becomes a mod, because if they're not very active on the forums when mods are needed, they don't really apply. QED Philip.

Quote: "My guess would be that atleast a couple of them are under age, possibly still going to school(the best time to slack off and come to the forums and moderate)."

Two of us are under 18 I believe, and some others still attending college/university/whatever. I really don't spend more than an hour max a day on the forums anymore, though I s'pose that's still a lot, all things considered.

At the end of the day, for all its faults, I've never found a better online community than these forums. That's what it boils down to

It's all in the position of your monitor, my desk faces the door and my monitor is positioned so you basically have to stand over my shoulder to see what I'm upto. I still get my work done, mostly - it does'nt pay to get things done too quickly anyway .

Probably has to do with people posting over unapproved posts, then said posts getting approved.

But the glitch always goes away as soon as someone adds a post

All in all, why would you want to become a mod? The fact that you want to become one says something along the lines of 'you want to be one to have a power over other members'. I'm sure the mods became mods just by being friendly and helpful to the TGC community. IMO being a mod brings a lot of responsibily, you can't post stupid things, you can't abuse your rights and must stick to the rules at all times. Remember, mods are the ones that act as role models for new users, not just to scrounge around and delete post here and there.

Well, thats my view on it, cheers.

If I were you and you were me, then you'd be yourself 'cos you are me and I am you.
