Finland has the highest percentage of blondes in its population than any other country.

One Fin consumes on average 9 cups of coffee per day.

The Baltic sea is not tidal, meaning Finnish coastlines look like lake.

If I remember rightly Chinese is the most used language. But English is the most understood language, what with lots of Chinese dialects being really different to each other and everything. Then again go to Dublin or Glasgow....

Fact: English is the first language of anyone who claims that english simple.

Fact: English has more dialects then people realise, Essex, Brummy, Cockney, Liverpudlian, Scotish, Welsh, Irish, Cornish, American, Redneck, Texan, Australian, etc. Although most are similar enough to be understood by most.

Well, erm, yeah.... Every language has multiple dialects, my point was that English is supposed to be the most understood language because most English speakers can understand most other english dialects most of the time. Some Chinese dialects cannot understand each other *at all* apparently.

Anyway, everyone in the UK knows that if you talk slow and loud enough then *everyone* in the world can understand you. If they don't then it really means they won't, probably because they are still annoyed about when we took over their country or somesuch...

Cheers

There are some English dialects that are, almost completely impossible to understand without learning, Liverpudlian for example.

Quote: "English is the most complicated language in the world"

heh, here in Brazil, if you ask a native portuguese speaker who's studying english in school, "What do you think is more complicated, english or portuguese?", a surprisingly large amount will say "portuguese" despite it being their first language. English is a simple language compared to others (except spanish, which is very simple).

Fact: Pie is by far the most perfect meal. If you get its circumference and divide it by the distance from its center to its border squared, you will get a constant (off the top of my head): 3.141592653589793238462643...

Fact: Nearly all food worth eating is somehow related to Pie:
1) Pizza, a flat pie with cheese and no upper crust
2) Queesh, a funny tasting pie
3) Lasanha, a soggy pie, with the crust mixed up with the filling
4) Burritos, rolled-up-bean-pie
there's more, but I'm getting hungry.

Well, I've always heard from other people usualy those who speak a number of languages, that English was the most complicated. The reason they always gave was that it's the only language where the same sentance can mean many different things depending of tone or voice and the context it was said in. Anyone who speaks english will agree that even if it's your first language you can still get confused. I was always under the impression that no other language goes as far as english does to be diverce.
