Hello,

Ive been working on this project on and off for a month or so, and worked on it mostly all this week. The game is called Mayor, where you are in control of building your city (or heck if you want to, torching it to the ground!). Some key features include:

*building your city (duh)

*realesing disasters upon your city (such as fires, hurricanes, tornados etc.)

* walking, driving or flying in your city

*<maybee> network play with other players, so you could perhaps wage war against them!

*editing the terrian of your area,

*once you run out of room, you can buy more land!

Ill post some more screens later on but heres one to keep you satisfied (hopefully) for a while:

yes, ive been wanting to do this for the longest time, (this is much funner to code!) The biggest problem right now is figuring out how to position the object according to where my cursor is. The one up thier isnt exact to the cursor, its sort of a mirrior effect. anyway what do you think of the hud icons? i thought the water one could use some work...

Wow...i saw this thread and thought
Quote: "Oh god no... i thought he had learned to have material before posting"

and came here to rage at you but i must say im impressed !

For the Selecting a position it depends really.
If you are using a matrix...then i dont know !
But if you are using a object then have a look at the pick object command...or i can give you a routine i wrote to scheive the same thing...your call !

Good luck though !

Is the construction of Industrial, Housing, airports, etc. going to be like Sim City where you lay down colored squares and things are automaticaly built on them? That would be pretty sweet!

This game looks pretty good so far, so finsh it!

Well folks ive been banned from the computer again (grades) but this ban shouldnt be to long (about 3 weeks). So ill sneak on the computer and do some stuff and maybee post progress. But to answer a question of Bizar Guy most likely thier will be zones like in Simcity. Its really up to how many buildings I can produce.

seriously sage, DO YOUR WORK. Trust me, school work is MUCH more important than a programming hobby. Until you have graduated...WORK ON YOUR GRADES...only do programming in your free time. Remember, it's a hobby/obsession, school is what will let you succeed in life. So work on that as your first priority.

Ya, work hard enough so that the teacher loves you, then you can slack off enough to work on programming more.

Yea, there are exceptions...but no often. With that attitude, I will just wait to see you on the streets...then i will throw a piece of bread out for you....run out quickly and grab the bread back...then laugh at your uneducatedness.

I meant the other way around. Not many people who dropped out of high school become rich.

But let's compare that to the amount of people who have just a high school diploma with no job. It still makes more sense to go to University. FACT.

Did you accidentally press cancel when it asks you to save something? If you accidentally press close, and dont wish to save (at that point) it wipes all your code.

It wiped the entirety of my RTS

This Sim sounds interesting...
I've yet to get my SATs results back but as their not that important and my Parents know I want to go for something in IT later on they wont be too worried as long as my English,Science and Maths Grades are OK!

Anyways back on topic Personnally I never liked the way the buildings 'Grew' on SimCity. I think you should just be able to place buildings whereever you like.

Hey, I've just done my SAT's too. (Waiting for results..) How'd it go for you?

That Macbeth paper (assuming everyone does the same thing) was a bit more difficult than I first thought, what do you think?

Well ive got it working agian so now you can click and the building will be placed wherever the cylinder is. Next thing im re-doing is the hud as it just doesnt look very swell to me. Also I put together the basis of what i call "the city network" basicly it allows you to chat with other players and view websites made by the city network editor.

heres a new screen:
