a/ E3 stands for Electronic Entertainment Expo, it's not ment to stand for a Math equasion; just a play on words so to speak.
b/ Sony weren't willing to have any of thier Software on-show to the public outside of thier Press Conference. This on it's own is enough to raise suspicion about what they were claiming it could achieve.
Several people (including myself) were working for Microsoft the last few weeks with High-Resolution videos of the Playstation 3 footage, along with the 'Technical Specifications' from NVIDIA about the RSX to determin what was authentic and what wasn't.
I can tell you know, graphically I'm not even close to worried about the power of the Playstation 3. It is an impressive console, with one hell of a Graphics Processor. Fact of the matter remains though that it can only technically achieve 3x the Graphics level of current top-end PC Graphics Cards.
If your expecting to play Killzone 2, or Final Fantasy VII with the graphics depth shown off at E3 in a real-time game. Think again.
Microsoft on the other hand (largely due to the company I'm working for at the moment) had some very impressive games that were ready to play at E3, which achieved best of show.
Perfect Dark Zero as well as Kameo and the Elements of Power, were two of the most impressive games on display; what made them more impressive was there were running at only 1/3rd of what the X-Box 360 is capable of, and still using X-Box Compatible Shaders.
In other words, we have 6 months left; then you'll see exactly what the new X-Box is capable of. Games like 'The Getaway 2' are impressive on the Playstation 3, but there was an X-Box racing title at E3 that had very similar graphics; as well as real-time effects that were far more impressive.
It's not what hardware you have, but if you know how the hell to use it. Unreal 3 and Gears of War run almost the same speed as it did on the Playstation 3 on the X-Box 360.. your not going to be seeing much in the way of difference between the consoles.
Power doesn't mean that you'll see better and better titles either; it just means developers can be lazy. Look at the PC, developers very rare optimise thier games as far as they're capable because you can just tell the end user to upgrade thier CPU or GPU.
Why spend months optimising a title when you can just release and bam! a few extra months with money commming in. It's as simple as that really.
