sorry for the impertinent question.. but women are essential
for the peace of the world and there are some places where

I don't think there are many, and they're probably not frequent users if there are any at all. All that were got driven off by kiddies with hormones.

Never yet in my professional or academic career have I come across what would be termed a "hot chick" in the programming realm. Give up now. Search a little further afield.

I do however remember waiting outside a lecture theatre one time, with the rest of my class, burning time until the previous class finished and came out of the room. I peered in and low and behold, a whole bunch of fine-ass laydeeez. It was something surprising like business or economics... maybe business-with-cleaning I dunno. Incidentally my wife-to-be (yes yes people, I got engaged) did something stupid () like English with Performing Arts at university. sheesh.

Hey, I do Games Technology at Uni ( The only Games specific course around here ), and we have two girls in the class.

One is a total write-off... She's quite unfortunate.

The other, however... Damn! She's real pretty lookin

She's a friend of mine ( infact, she introduced me to my current girlfriend, her friend ) but my girlfriend's much better lookin'

Fit to be a model, she is ( both my girlfriend, and the girl in my course )

It is possible... Just depends on where you look, and if the girls care enough to make themseleves respectable!

We're better off without girls - if two of them started an argument we'd never, ever hear the end of it.

I'm also doing a Game Dev/Programming course and of the 50 of us, we still have 6 girls (although a couple transferred out last semester) ranging from very high to mid-low so I wouldn't give up just yet. Of course, this is Australia.

Ya know, normally that's true, but in my last job I worked with one cracker. Good laugh, very nice, incredible body, snappy dresser. She wasn't too good at her job though - we had an extreme programming heirachy, so I was her partner and we'd work together on stuff, then she'd come to me with questions. We used to give each other 1p in payment whenever we asked the other person a question. I had £1.23 before I left.

I think she was in her element because obviously she was drooled over by about 30 developers in our office (open plan). But anyways, they do definitely exist. There was a very nice girl on my software engineering cause also, but she was crap at it.

I think the question isn't so much "Are there any girl coders our there?" because the answer is definitely yes. Nor is it "Are there any attractive female coders out there?" cos actually the answer is yes. The question is "Are there any good attractive female coders out there?" ....... we all know the answer to that one.

Bwaha. I'd so love someone to prove me wrong. It just aint gonna happen!

Yes there are some girls around here, yup some are quite cute and very nice to talk to. While I'm sure there are a few members here who pay enough attention over the years to know who is and who isn't a girl, on the whole they don't advertise it.

I don't see why they should. After all how many of you have actually said that your guys? No, it's just assumed. Although for some dumbass reason some people recently have been under the impression that Pink Cat Dancing Avatar = Raven a Girl.

Which to make a point, I never even thought anyone would be retarded enough to get that impression. If I were a girl I'd have a much better memory and actually win all of the arugments I'm in.. when the hell was the last time I actually won an arguement?

Personally I don't see why any girls would want to come forward anyways. Most who remain here, have only done so because they've stayed silent or not made it known what gender they are. Generally you can't tell much from a handle, and with no visual confirmation this works to thier advantage. So they can be treated as equals, without anyone being the wiser.

I find it quite amusing that in something that, let's be honest women are kinda designed for that a) most don't find it interesting enough to do, b) the entire programming industry is quite schouvanistic(sp?). Not that those women who do decide to take up programming help the matters, as most will act like helpless damsels despite what they clearly can do.
(I know someone reading this will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.)

So on the whole this just makes it harder for others.
As far as the whole, 'Cute Women Can't Program Well'... all I can say is this applies to guys too. Top Programmers in the world aren't going to win any beauty paegents; no offense but it's true.

There are always one or two exceptions to the rule, but personally I can't think of any off the top of my head either male or female.

Artwise however is a very different story.

Bah, if I was female I'd use it to my advantage on this forum. I'd post questions, ignore any quips, and watch all the boys pile in to do their best for the damsel in distress. We all know the responses you get for posting "Can I make an MMORPG??" but you can guarentee the responses would be better if the post was "I am an 16 year old trainee nurse who likes to make cute games in my spare time. Here's a photo (paste photo of top model here) - has anyone got any advice on making my new MMO Kitten Catchers?". The response would be huge!

I think it's the responsibility of female DB programmers to prey on the young hormone driven minds of the male db community to their own ends. It'd be educational for them all.

Gotta be worth a try! Make sure you put up a hot avatar and put something kinky in your profile. Give them the impression nothing turns you on more than someone who programs and has a PHD in acne!

Coding is simply not something cute girls like to do with their time - they have more interesting things to do, like have pillow fights with their pals and talk about hair.

It's wishful thinking guys, you should all get into the habit of 'not mentioning' coding at all when talking to chicks. I tend not to get assumed as a geek because I don't look too much like one - but I am, telling a girl you work in IT only get's them thinking about how much money you earn, and what IT problems they have - best just to pretend to be a Fireman or something.

Randy was quite a good programmer, it is quite interesting to see what women create because it's often so different to what men would - the creepy zombie girl thing that she made was very cool. She prefers to paint now though.

Women just don't take on this stuff as part of their life, not to the extents that we do - I honestly can't imagine NOT coding as a hobby, I reckon that a lot of people here are the same, and it can play havoc with social lives - you just gotta make sure you get out at least once a month for your own sanity .

It really doesnt matter who's a girl or not. Because I can, right now, go on my brothers computer and create an account and call myself whatever the hell I want, and not a single person here will ever know. See what I mean?

(Although you'll be surprised how much free armor and gold you get in Diablo 2 if you tell the guy you're a girl )

Ahem. Apparantly my cat addiction leads people on Halo to beleive I'm female. Can males NOT like those furry things?? What's wrong with the world??

Because people live in their own little fantasy world with some submissive hope in the back of their mind that if they meet a girl in a programming forum ... they might just end up in a kinky tussle.

Once you've had a few relationships and realised how much of a pain in the arse they are (or god forbid, you get married), you realise just how not worth it it actually is.

Having said that, my mrs does animation (maya movies and stuff), and although she's never made a single model for me, she said she would eventually. I can see the attraction in finding a woman with the same interests so you can combine your hobbies with your relationship. Would be quite sound. Realistically, you have to think more like Van B though - best if you take up hangbag collecting.

Well it doesnt help much to me because when someone talks to me for 5 minutes everyone gets that i am a geek. For example i was talking to a friend when a girl asked me to tell her 3 numbers, without thinking i said 234, -45623.463 and (37)1/2. I never saw her again. Also one girl liked me but was afraid to aproachme because she thought i was too smart and she didn't know about what to talk with me.Hell of a way to spend teenage years.Hope that there are some smarter girls at uni.

mmm. Wasn`t the world`s first programmer a female? Not a computer programmer but still a form of programming. It was on this program I saw where I guy went around England on a bike explaining about all these inventors. God knows why he wore a pink helmet.
I`m not too sure about this "girls can`t program" thing. I know 3 programmers. 2 are female and the best of the 3 is female. Coding is a mixture of logic and organizing so females should be able to do it quite well.

You guys like this subject..
I'm really feminist.. what is wrong with that?

into male and make everything the women love

----------

About programming subject:
I know that there are not many women that see pleasure
at making games (I understand their view.. "programming",
for the majority of them, is waste of time)

Understand me I was just wondering about the presence
of gilrs here..
And I think women can be better than men at gamemaking
Because they have improved good sense, at least

Quote: "Why is it really an issue. If they arent open with the fact that they are a girl on this fourm. Then odds are they wont say it now."

Very difficult, but a girl at gamemaking would rock

hmm cute girls don't care about that, of course..

Wow.. you are not even a little bit feminist..
But it is the truth.. unfortunately =[

Hey!! Thank you guys.. for your opinions about the subject
It would be nice to response to all.. but you know I like

Nah, I've seen a few (and employed a couple). Just the vast majority of programmers (vast vast vast) are men. If you go to uni then get out of the geek club immediatly. I only knew about 5 people out of about 80 by my 3rd year in Uni. It didn't help I went to like 1 in 10 lectures, or that I was pretty out of my face most of the time, but hey it beat the average "Speccy's forever" T-shirt boy's social life at the real RPG get togethers. ie. plastic swordarama. Turned up by accident once (thought it may be interesting once I was there), but was really hungover. So I downed a few pints and fell asleep as the geeks argued and got upset over "Theolin the Dwarf mage" biting the big one after Clearosil-man had owned him for like 3 years. Sheesh.. Think they got a little peeved as my snoring got in the way of their dice throwing abilities a little.

Heh, I remember a lecturer asking me who I was when he woke me up in a lecture once (think it was C communications). I had been in the same class for about half a year. Think it was my second time I turned up. Was only one of 2 or 3 who got the highest mark in the major course assignment though (client server in C). Did it all in a few hours in the dead of night of the last day of the 2 month project. People really shouldn't leave their directories unprotected in Unix. Tis stupid. Funny thing was he didn't get the highest mark, mainly because it core dumped every time the client asked the server a question. Which I had fixed in my reworked version incidentally. I wasn't completely clueless. Just didn't have any notes (for obvious reasons), or books (beer is expensive).

Heh, anyway the moral of the story is don't hang around the computer department if you want top birds. Physics and drama were always quite good if I remember rightly....

Cheers

I actually have a girlfriend whom I've been with for over two years - I meant as a community we'd be better off.

But, as it happens, the majority of the peopl in my year think I'm gay because I don't mind hugging guys. Or kissing them. Yes....

lol...we don't have guys that kiss each other in the first place

in some places though (El Paso for instance) hugging is customary instead of hand shaking...(well with people you know anyway...they don't walk up to strangers and hug them...)

oh, and btw i live in east texas not el paso...(spent the summer with El Pasoians)
