Government Response: Send in our armed forces, shoot to kill!

Im sorry but mr bush you ASSH#LE! He hasnt done crap for those people in trouble just sits in his cosey office, counting all the tax money those same people have given him for years! and for what!? F-A! Im not saying the trouble makers are right but people are violent because of the lack of response - the U.S government always leaves itself wiiiiiidddddeeeeeeee open for attack.

So what's bush going to do - he's arranged a visit to new orleans to show people that someone is in charge!!!!! I cant believe he's got the nerve to stand there and say -

'Dont worry I'm in charge here!.....Right, Im off home now to count your tax money - gotta big war coming up next year, gotta start saving!'

What a !"£%££"#$!!#!!

Its pathetic to the Nth degree. Too bad half of the national guard and their equipment, and 72 Million dollars slated for the Army Core of Engineers to maintain the levees, is currently tied up in the debacle known as Iraq.

priorities? I know what theirs are

In a news story it was the mayor that said something like the army was going to come in, and with the way things are going in new orleans they'd shoot and kill if they have to. That was a day or two after the hurrican ripped through there.

The company that I work for sent us an email this morning that said if one of the employees from new orleans comes in and asks for food, money, or any other supplies, the manager-in-charge is allowed to give out some items we have on hand, and also up to $100 cash.

You know rather than bitching about things being wrong on a forum perhaps actually getting off your arse and doing something about it would get the message across to more than a bunch of nerd who either a)don't care or b)are just going to sit here and agree or c)bitch that your bitching about Bush again.

He's in power right now, unless you know of a way to impeech him. Pipedown and do something about the situation rather than bitching about those in charge.

Yep, Bush has ordered that everyone in New Orleans be killed. Using scare tactics to keep the peace just isn't an option. I believe the direct quote by Bush was, "Kill'em all, those dirty cajuns."

Seriously, how the crap do you guys even tie your shoes in the morning? This has to be one of the most flagrant displays of complete ignorance I've ever seen on this forum.

Let's pretend, for a moment, that you all have fully functioning brains. Ok, now you should understand the situation down there. You understand that it's going to be days before they can get everyone out of there. You understand that government and private agencies are working around the clock to ensure a quick, safe and clean evacuation. You understand that a 'shoot to kill' order is necessary to quell civil unrest, whether it is actually enforced or not.

What happened down there was and is terrible, but naive attitudes like yours are what caused this order in the first place. There are a lot of angry and tired people down there and some of them are carrying firearms, so this intimidation is, again, necessary. But you don't see that. Nope. You see Bush ordering the deaths of thousands of innocent people, while sitting on this throne of golden jelly.

Morons.

A keg of gas would only cost a cent
if I were president

edit: Not sure about what's being done, but I say send out the army on a relief operation. Since they're not harassing people in another country, they should go down there and put their training to use. Bring the rations, too.

Don't worry, be Wahoo!

Uhh thats not true. Police were sent to New Orleans to "KEEP THE PEOPLE FROM RIOTING" if u read the news!!!! Even though I dont blame them, people there are walking around with shotguns raiding into stores and taking food, electronics, and other appliances.

Yes, that is what they are doing. But, because of the conditions and the amount of people, they've been given the order to keep things under control by whatever means necessary. And they'll make sure that the people of New Orleans are aware of this. It's a scare tactic and it will work better than laying back and giving these people the false sense that they have to take matters into their own hands.

Just suggesting what we do in our country, like when the week long storm caused a disaster in the provinces. Since our military only has enough bullets to last 2 weeks in a war, they're usually deployed for these kinds of things.

Not saying we don't have those kinds of people problems here. But at least the "victims" seem more interested in getting their faces on TV than looting the nearby corner shop.

Don't worry, be Wahoo!

^_^ foamy is the voice of reason, and Matt is right. I mean he's gone down from New York specifically to help out with family and friends he has in the Louisianna area.

All you hear about are people taking pot shots at Bush or saying "oh what a tragedy", yet none are willing to lift a finger to help those in need.

I can't say I understand the looting. What your home is lost so now rather than trying to save lives your going to grab that toaster-microwave-television combo you've had your eye on..? In some universe that might make sense but not this one.

Kinda sad how these sort of events always show the worst in human nature. what's more the worst nature is always shown on the news... just sad. I'm kinda worried about a friend, she lives kinda close to where all of the damage took place and I've not heard from her in the past few days.

Personally I wish that I had the ability to just fly out there and find out what's happening. Make sure friends I know are alright.

People were looting from day 1 as far as I can tell. Looting is simply stealing, but using a situation of panic as an excuse. I agree with Jimmy, the situation is only going to get worse, and a shoot to kill policy if anything is going to scare people into thinking twice about nicking their neighbour's tv.

That audio clip, as idealistic as it may be does not take into account that while people in the area may be suffering, life has to go on elsewhere in the world. News presenters have to make a living, if they don't present the news, they lose their job. If all the news reporters refused to report the news, then apart from maybe losing their job, none of us would know much about anything that is going on there. No one would be able to have these opinions, none of the victims would be able to express their view, and the global response to the situation would generally be worse.

Although the politicians may not have delt with it as well as they could have, they are obviously not sitting on their backsides all day long, they have a reputation to maintain and want to deal with the situation as well as possible.

There is nothing stopping the reporters from helping between these "live-casts". The report of the situation isn't the issue, the issue is a lack of help.

You have new stations saying "oh it's a sad sad day..." yeah so how much has that news station given to the charities trying to help?
Each news station trying to get the best coverage with the most heart wrenching pictures... yet at the end of the day they don't really care much.

See I actually respect the BBC's new casting for the simple reason; they do try to make a difference when something big happens. They don't sit around saying what a shame of it all. When the London bombings took place there was more news about how to contact them and other services about contacting loves ones, what you can do to help, what the BBC was doing to help.

Flick over to Sky News and it was all about how many had died before moving onto other stories... there literally was nothing else on BBC News for 2 days. Even 2 weeks on and they were keeping it as a very big story keeping everyone informed to what was going on.

Sure SkyNews might win the awards for best new casting; but who cares when at the end of the day they'll just report the news; then sit back as if to say "we're mearly observers" ... it's not right.

I agree, if those reporters are sitting around drinking coffee inbetween broadcasts (not that I'd know) then they should probably go and drown themselves.

I see nothing wrong with looking food that will

A) Prevent you and your family from starving after your home has been destroyed

B) Either Rot or be taken by someone else anyway.

I saw a photo of a women walking out of a looted store with a bag full of makeup in the paper. That's really wasn't nessassary.

Im not saying the army being there is a bad thing but that it seems this is the only thing they've really done. Why not send the helicopters in and drop off the supplies that the people actually need.

The only reason I dont like Bush is because the man has got war on his mind way too often to be comfortable and you surely cannot trust him he's a bloody monkey, A terrorist!

Quote: "You see Bush ordering the deaths of thousands of innocent people,..."

Yes he's done this. [I think someone might have filmed it actually. yeah im sure I saw it happen...umm...yeah I did! nd you think Im naive! your a dick! probably one of 50 million people who voted that scumbag back into office]

yeah im kinda busy right now over the side of the world ya know. Im happy giving a donation though.

If I were president I'd already have a plan which my crisis people and myself would have put together years ago when we realised this was going to happen [which they did!] and would have been excuting the formentioned plan around about hmmm....4 days ago.

OH MY, why aren't you in office??? Your ideas are so INNOVATIVE and GROUND BREAKING!

How dense are you that you honestly don't believe that they are sending massive amounts of relief. And, even more, there are plans and systems in place to get this relief to the people! AMAZING! It's like they are paid to do this stuff or something.

Oh, one more thing, you live in Wales. You need to just shut the heck up right now.

do you REALIZE how many volunteers there are right now?
let me tell you how many, that have MORE than they can handle, they were having people comming in asking what they can do to help, and the people cant figure out what to do with them.

It isnt the presidents job to make EVERY PERSON happy. It's his job to make sure we are safe. There are other people in charge of relefe and such, yeah, i'm sure he could do a LOT more, but so could you? what are YOU doing about it? posting on a forum about how rotten your country is.

People like you make my stomach churn. I suppose your next anouncement will be that president bush blew up the walls holding back the water?

Look, Im sorry to hear about your Grampa I really am. And I feel very sorry for all the families who have lost everything of course I do. I dont blame bush for the disaster but it seems the system they have in place are simply not good enough. It seems highly incompitent that the one of the worlds richest and highly resourcful countries can screw up so badly.

like convert to terrorism?

that squirrel needs to sdfu. you see, if it wasnt for these news people, we wouldn't know about the hurricane, hence, no-one would know help was needed. im sure for every 1 news reporter, at least 10's or 100's of people who had seen the report would have thought "omg! they need help!"

what does p*ss me off however is when celebrities like victoria beckham walk through some african slum saying "all these people need is £100 to be free from hunger and thirst for the rest of their lives" when she's probably got at least £1000 in her pocket on her right there and then...

It isn't that they aren't trying to help. It's hard to help when people are attacking the helos and vehicles bringing supplys. And even then you have places that are flooded too deep to drive a vehicle, but not deep enough for a boat. Only compounding the problems. And I would have started shooting to kill when they started firing on me, damned if I am going to sit around getting shot at or leave like a dog with my tail between my legs, waiting for an order. While people are starving and dehydrating.

@ R2D2\'s Jilted Lover:
First of all, Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco ordered it, because the looting was getting out of hand (not talking perishables, those are ok, but things like electronics) as well as rescue helicopters being shot at, and a cop being shot.
Second, your insults towards President Bush are blinder than bats. I don\'t like him either, but he has sent many MREs and supplies to New Orleans. Bluntly making rants shows your ignorance and stupidity.
Third, I live in Louisiana and have quite a better source of knowledge of the happenings than you would (as you live in Wales), so try not to argue.
Point is: Shut up.

passing along this open letter to president Bush....

Quote: "
Friday, September 2nd, 2005
Dear Mr. Bush:
Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.
Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with? Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her! I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike? And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ! On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that. There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.
No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING
-- to do with this!
You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.
Yours,
Michael Moore

you guys are unbelievable. You go ahead and take a national disaster and turn it into a bush-bashing fest. Who the F***** cares about the war in iraq taking our troops , because 70%(so they all cant be in iraq ) of the souths national guard is deployed to new orleans, thats about 30000 troops. We have 300+ army, navy, and coast guard helicopters acting right now. The army just delivered 9 MILLION MRE's(meals ready to eat) to new orleans. I agree that it took too long, but there are logistics involved. The closest working airport able to host the army and airforce C5's was 150 miles away. Plus numerous bridges and routes were destroyed and/or flooded. A major operation like this does not happen overnight(as nice as it would be), there is extensive planning and logistical problems involved in this case. I agree that the gvernment underestamated the damage, but they are giving help. Even if we had 100% of our army in america, it would still take 3-4 days to get things improving. The main reason that this is happening is because of the levys breaking, it is sad that 1 billion was given to reinforce the gulf coast agaisnt this, but wouldnt have been delivered till '08. It isnt all bush either, he (contary to popular belief) does not control every siving part of our federal governmant. So quit throwing blind punches at bush just ecause the government isnt as perfect as u thought.

Me, i wanna see the french donate after what they did to us during the tsunami crisis. I am not a fan of bush, but think you guys are taking this to the extreme.

no sh** sherloc its not, is he supposed to control all of the high schoolers and tell them to go to college and get a good job, no. Its there own dam fault, they could of worked their a** off in school and get an education. I do however feel sorry for those who physicaly arent able to do that.

I dont care for bush, but i wont say i hate him, he is better than kerry was, so i voted for him. I dont like the war in iraq, but i am not going to be an a** about it. Can you people grow up and realise that the president of the united states does not control every little dam thing our governemt does.

who else finds it funny that September is National Preparedness Month?

TDP go learn something and come back, scientists and engineers have been telling the administration that this was eventually going to happen to New Orleans, it was NO F*CKING SECRET! Bush pulled all of the funding that was supposed to be for ongoing bolstering of the NOLA (New Orleans, LouisiAnna) levees, and diverted it to iraq. Then he has the audacity to say yesterday "no one knew the levees were going to fail". I don't blame bush for the hurricane, but MOST of the flooding, death, and destruction, could have been avoided. Then to top it off he responds too little too late?!?

WAKE THE F*CK UP

EDIT: HALIBURTON & KBR Just hired to restore electicity and other services in the afflicted areas of the US. Wonder if it was "no bid" like in iraq? Hmmm....

So should you. How do you know for 100% that they knew about the levys? Do you believe everything you see on the news? I dont think either of us have 100% true facts, the only way that would work was if we were able to read every memo and message sent in our ficken huge government. Quit saying bush did that, bush did this, because in the end, the house and senate both have to approve anything he wants to do with our money.

Its in the minutes of the Senate and the House, look it up. It being the fact that the levee's could break under the right storm conditions and their underfunded state of DISREPAIR.

Quote: "Do you believe everything you see on the news?"

What news is that? The corporate media? The cancelled news? Left news? right news? overseas news? Ive got news for you, there's no such thing as "the news" from any one source. Its a daily research task to "get the news".

True, thats alot of memos to sift through. In that case i'd start with the Downing Street Memo. Any questions that may cause you, please redirect them 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC.

Correct! Last time I checked they were both in the republican majority. Talk about a republican wet dream

Oh you mean the bit about "go way and come back"? Yeah, thats a bit Ravenesque - my apologies TDP. Ian doesnt scare me tho

I agree that something could have been done to better prepare the city for this kind of thing, whether it be improved defences or simply letting people know what to do/would happen if the city ever flooded.

At the same time, it's happened now so I don't see the point in blaming anyone. Bush is a person just like everyone else and everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure alot of people will learn from this but for now I think they're more bothered about saving peoples lives.

I've already received 2 e-mails asking for money to help people. The sad thing is the scum of the earth will already be busy preparing fake charity websites in the hope of scamming people out of their money.

You telling us the Bush administration was the first presidential administration to hear about this? Cram it up your cow hole, CR. Go back to funding Ted Kennedy's burger fund and stop burdening us with your fanatical liberalist bull crap.

Becuase if they had, it would have to be a floating city and if you've seen the film waterworld you'll know that you'd be attacked by people with eye patches, jet skis and big guns.

@ Oneka

Back in the days of early new orleans, settelers thought that if they built the city below the lake, it would be a perfect way to generate water preasure. Think aquaducs of Rome.

If you're so smart, why are you reading my post?
