hey that looks a lot like the preview controller they were showing off a few months back... only the inside were squeezeable and no place for the new controller. snazzy

More ideas for uses...

Draw circles around the troops you want to command in RTS's - as fast, if not faster, than a mouse.

Point in directions you want your teammates to go in, in team FPSs - then do all the 'circle around' and 'kill' movements and have the controller pick it up.

Be able to draw plans of attacks (as seen in Planetside) like drawing with a laserpointer. Co-ordinate your team with increased efficiency.

Play a hangglider game and have control that usually only a high end joystick would give - but with a freedom and lightness than those joysticks won't give.

Give kids games that teach them to draw letters in the air - for those in the UK "Top to bottom, up and around!" = r (obscure kids program reference).

Catch flies with chopsticks.

Use two and have them as 'robotic hands' in game for picking up dangerous substances in a remote control bomb disposal game.

Swing it around your head and swing it forward as a lasso in a cowboy game. Control your horses direction with the other controller part.

That's actually an IGN mockup But I hope the real thing looks like that... The GC joypad was perfect.

I hope the real controller dock doesn't look like that, the way the 'remote' sticks out makes it look like a sex toy.

It already was a falic symbol. Why do you think guys tend to take over the remote? We were brought up pointing our privates in the bathroom all our life... the "remote" is another thing we get to point at stuff.

Nintendo is trying to get new customers to buy their products. The target people with this new controller are people that are afraid to touch a "normal" controller. I believe the only people that are truely afraid to touch "normal" controllers are older people. The data that was in the video show they already have more little kids and older adults buying their products. The middle area (the 18-30 year olds) are lower. Since their target customer are adults their not going to increase sales as much as they hope. They already have adult customers. What they need to do is target the middle age customers that (obviously) would rather buy Playstations and XBoxes.

I'm sorry, but if my Grandmother wasn't attracted to the current gen monsters, I doubt she'd go bananas over this. A new controller doesnt mean a new genere of game.

As I said, you put it in the normal controller dock and you have a normal controller?

No offence but I think it's a bit premature to decide whether you want to play something or not after seeing a bunch of pics. Wait 'til people can play it, and then we can all pass a valid judgement.

Ya know if I wasn't so lazy I'd just up and find out what it's real name was. Was something like Gencon or something.. have it for my Playstation for Time Crisis, Die Hard, Resident Evil Survivor and Dawn of the Dead or was it Dead House.. i forget, not played them in ages.

good games but once you complete them once you know what's going to happen and it gets real boring cause it's about remembering rather than reaction.

I have a sneaking suspicion that all of the PS3 designs will change before it's release. The whole console (let alone the controller) is ugly). The best looking out of this bunch is the 360.

Ever tried using both guns for those kinds of games in the arcades? You'd look awkward and waste twice as much money, but it's fun as hell.

Yeah, did that with this newer Area 51 game down at the movie theater while waiting for the 10:30 showing of Transporter 2. The peoples I was with didn't know how to play, and had sh*tty aim, so I says "Say... go get us some food, and some seats... i'll take that gun!". I missed the first 5 minutes of the movie, not that i'm sad about that or anything because other then a few of the fight scenes, it was utter crap movie IMO. Only saw it because the rest of the nights showings for The Exorsism Emily of Rose was sold out, which I saw later that week and though was great.

Anyway... I seem to have gone WAY off topic...

Hi there.
Some of you have probably noticed I am a Nintendo fanatic. It's almost completely down to the quality of their games and the fact that they have an escapist quality that the supposedly realistic games for the other consoles just can’t replace. With that in mind I must say I don’t care what the controller looks like, why would you look at the controller while playing unless you have the memory of a goldfish.

The main complaint on the technical side seems to be "Why didn’t they just put the sensors on a normal controller". Well the reason for that seems fairly obvious to me. For the non believers, try following the procedure below.

1) Sit on sofa or gaming location of choice.
2) Allow a minute or so for bedding in.
3) Take your normal controller in both hands (The traditional fashion)
4) Now without removing either hand rotate the controller 90 degrees right.
5) Now without removing either hand rotate the controller 90 degrees left.
6) Now remove left hand from controller and repeat steps 4 and 5.
7) Notice how a single wrist has a full 180 degrees of rotation while joining two wrists via a normal controller restricts the range of motion.
8) Now go back to two hands. Point controller straight up.
9) Rotate 90 degrees left (About the axis of your arms).
10) Remove left hand and repeat steps 8 and 9.
11) Notice how it almost seems as though your wrist is specifically designed to work with a one handed controller of this type.
12) Hang head in shame at being a supposed game developer who can’t see the possibilities of this tremendous device.
Simple ergonomics chaps and chapesses.

Sure you can roatate it 90 degrees to make a NES type controller, but what's the bloody point? You can't wrap your hands around it nicly like the GC or Xbox controller.

I’m not sure you fully understand the point I was trying to make there, but I do agree that the cube controller is by far the best of the current crop, and I’m not talking about wheat fields.

You can when you plug the revolution controller in the standard controller shell

The point is for motion detection. They're trying to make a controller that utilizes precise motion detection and this is the way to go, as Nemo has so flagrantly presented.

Maybe they didn't use a normal controller with motion detection is because anybody that's used to playing console games usually get to the point their not moving the controller in the direction their going on the game. Little kids go all over the place with normal controllers... not old gamers.

Which illustrates perfectly the point that physically moving the controller is the most intuitive method of control there is.
