Here's a link to a Slashdot article with screenshots and videos of Xbox 360s crashing all over the place. Even with default, single-player and Xbox Live the box is crashing. Some of them are crashing after completing a single lap in Project Gotham 3.

http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/11/23/138200&from=rss

Was Microsoft ready for the release? Word has spread around that Microsoft is recalling many of the power bricks that seem to be linked to the problems.

Bloody hell, looks like they're in for a rough time.

I was only going to get one (in 6 months or so) if I could install linux and run a server off it... Reconsidering now...

[Edit] Jeku, didn't you say before that it's a complete pain trying to get all the threads synchronised and working together just right? Maybe the consumer version of the Xbox has slightly different timings... [/edit]
[Edit 2] Damn you blanky, read what other people post before you reply. You can ignore the above edit, everyone. [/edit 2]

Mwahahaha. Thats all I have to say really. Its a good enough reason to wait a bit before buying a newly released console.

I've been playing my box for a fair amount of time on PDZero, a demo of kameo i downloaded from xbox marketplace, and a demo of NBA live 2006 i also downloaded from the marketplace plus a couple of the arcade games.. I havent had any troubles yet.

One thing i dont like is how once you come back from one of those places, if you have a game in the tray.. it loads it up immediately.. i wish there was an option to turn that off.

All in all, i'm quite happy with my purchase so far, no problems.

WindowsXP Home(Service pack 2), Athlon XP 2400+(2.01Ghz), 1GIG Ram, Ati Radeon 9800Pro 128MB.

I remember on the 'Cube that if you held down A then it would go to the menu, even if there was a game in the drive.

Try holding down a button (Start, maybe?) as you turn the console on.

(Note to all Cube owners: Hold down the 'Z' button (above the R trigger) as you turn the console on. Keep holding it down.... Muahahaha...)

I know the alpha kits are more powerful than the consumer version, but MS has a very strict and tough guidelines force test they put on every game. If even one word is mispelled it will be sent back to the developer rejected, so I'm surprised these games passed.

But I honestly think it's a hardware issue, not software.

I've been playing mine a good bit think i played kameo for about 4 hours strait sunday.

Got PDZ on monday nite played that for about another 4 hours strait monday.

Just got Quake 4 a couple mins ago and im sure i will be playing all day tomorrow since no work. (I new i should have bought PGR3 instead wish i did now just to see if it happens)

However i do not have PGR3 yet so maybe it is just that game.
I have watched Devils Rejects on it with no problems, downloaded and watch just about every trailer available so far as well with no problems.

well then a car is a console. Anyway the difference that was supposed to always be between a pc and a console was that a console was made out of arcade parts designed specifically for gameplay. the xbox used pc parts, ruining the tradition of machines specifically built for games. then they made a bunch of games without the blue sky attitude and marketed it to children saying thsi is cool and mario is too kiddy, so all teh 4 yr olds were playing gta instead of sunshine.

Haha, yeah. Whereas all the worn-out shop demonstration 'cubes and PS2s have worn-out controllers, the Xbox's is normally in pristine condition.

With a big fat blue screen on the TV, which is probably why no-one's bothered.

By that definition, so would the 8-bit nintendo. But what makes a PC a PC is the x86 processor. Meaning the first XBox really was a PC. This new one isn't.

I didn't see the point in buying a 360 in the first place. It isn't the same technological leap it was when the first Xbox came out. You're basiclly paying half a grand for an improved Xbox.

The thing is, is that you don't know if the PS3 will suffer similar, worse, or completely different problems. If you ask me I personally think the PS3 is gonna burst into flames as soon as you turn it on. What's nice about the PS3 is that when you get mad at a game your playing and you throw the controller the nice boomerang shape will make sure that it comes right back to you.

Joel, calm down. Stop jumping down people's throats.

Anyways, there's no point in hyping up the PS3 or the Revolution until we see some gameplay videos. For those that want to buy the 360 now when it's overpriced (even though MS still loses $126 per console), go ahead.

The ps2 suffered very much in the first releases Also, one of my friends at school said that people had found a way to fix the crashing problems. He said that it was the power supplys getting overheated, and if you layed it on a cardbordbox(etc) the heat could both go up and down, wich prevent the power supply in overheating. I've only heard it from a friend, so i'm not sure about it though.

Just read this article don't know if its legit or not but

http://www.nforcershq.com/article4717.html

this may explain why only some have the problem since my xbox is inside of a tv stand and the supply goes out a hole in the back, the cord is just long enough to reach to the plug hence my power supply is hanging in mid air not sitting on the floor or touching anything.

Also if you look at the box even though they say it can stand up the major air intake is on the bottom of the unit and the legs are not even 1/4 a inch high so people may be starving there systems if they are in the upright position on a non smooth surface.

Hmm...last week the decision was 90% new PC, 15% new 360.
This week it is 100% new PC. Next week.....20% car insurance.
Meh, most of the good games on 360 (Q4, Gears of War, CoD2, ect) are also for PC.

Yeah I know, the Xbox 360 is really suckin'. Anyhow they found 30,000 glitches for it. Now that is a reason to wait a year in order to buy one. They are idiots, I mean, being one of the richest companies in North America, I mean, they give out there crap, have the world beta test it, then fix it, except we have to pay 300 to 400 US dollars to beta it. Not worth it.

Well, mine works fine. I've played for over 30 hours since I've gotten it. No overheating issues at all, games run fantastically with no framerate issues.

It's pretty much the best console I've ever owned. If you don't buy it for the power of the system or the graphical prowess, the online services are amazing. Downloading demos of games right to your harddrive, plus trailers and full classic arcade games is awesome.

The dashboard is all it's cracked up to be. You can put pictures from your digital camera on there as your background, you can play music with a full interactive visualizer, all in beautiful high definition.

If you don't have online then I would say any of the three systems are good, they'll all be about the same power-wise(but the nintendo will be worth owning no matter what just for the original ideas!) but if you want to play online than 360 is the way to go. PS3 won't have a unified online service, meaning you'll probably get the same number of online games you have on your PS2.

The errors are almost certainly hardware faults and I expect that they only affect a very small proportion of the XBOX 360 consoles out there.

I have one, and I even left it on all night long with war of the worlds in it and no problems yet, I have call of duty 2, the only problem I have had was, my friend tipped it on its side when the game was in there and it was on so this ring was grinded into the disk, but thats it for me. Too bad for those other guys, hehe, im starting to think it might be the premium pack tho, because somewhere I heard that their fans for keeping a thing nice and sort of cool are failing on the premiums, because they are different.

I was considering getting the basic model as the only part of the more expensive set I care about is the hard-drove, and 70 quid for a 20gb hard drive is more than a bit rich! But then it occurred to me I wouldn't be able to run the emulator, and that the memory cards needed for game saves would cost me a fair ammount, and perhaps the wireless controller might be cool - although personally I'm still dubious about reception and battery issues...

First off you cant play most of them anyways, and the 20 GB HD is only about 13 with all of the usless crap they put on it, even though I was able to get the basic but I got the HD cheeper with my employee discount.

You'll eventually be able to play most of them, after MS makes more of their emulators. And most of the original Xbox games cache to the hard drive, which is why you need it to play the older games.

I thought the same thing that i would like all games backwards compatible i had a collection of 104 xbox games out of that about 20 or so where compatible.

But after playing
COD 2
Quake 4
NFS MW
Condemned
NBA 2K6
PDZ
Kameo

I took all 104 to gamestop traded them in and gladly took the $550.00 trade in cash so i can buy some more 360 titles that will be coming soon. After playing 360 titles i don't think i could go back to a old xbox game.

argh when will people realise that selling games with paypal then buying games online is a MUCH better return than trading in for low prices and buying for high at retail shops? on ebay even really rubbish xbox games will sell for 4.99gbp (8usd) if you put them as buy it now ending on a weekend

Still - for a shop trade in that was a prety good price - near me you are lucky to get a pound each for most titles unless they are in the top ten at the time

PS yeah I always feel like that initially on buying a new console & games, but then in a few years you start remembering how fun the old games were and buy them again second hand to relive it - I thinking I bought and sold my saturn about 10 times over time, and spent a fortune recently on a mint boxed spectrum +4, when at some point I sold one for a tenner lol

Released in Europe today. And you can grab one for the low, low price of £600 (but it comes with 2 games, so it must be worth it.)

A couple of people I know queued up for their 360's, one got it home and the DVD drive didn't work. Nice. I also saw an Ad on TV for one of the games at 49.99...? I thought those days had passed! Especially bad as it was just another 'prettier, not much else' release.

Cheers
