Come on now guys, for the most part the 360 ISN'T unstable. Microsoft stated that roughly 3 percent will experience technical problems. That's not much considering the massive amounts they were pushing out for launch night.

Umm... Yeah... That worked out REAL well...

Ug, I could care less about a bazillion poly graphics... I wish more people would try and advance game play at the same rate as graphics... I want NEW games, not prettier ones...

Off topic, but that's why the Zelda games are so awesome. They all have awesome original game play elements simply by the way the games are set up.

The cool thing about the pc is while the graphics are advancing on it at an astounding rate, game play it getting better too. I mean, come on. The pc will soon far out do anything the consoles have...

Well the reason they didn't get out as many as they planned was(from what I heard) they ran out of some of the 1700 individual parts needed to make it. They also had to recall alot before launch night due to faulty chips, cutting it down from 500K to around 350K in the US.

I agree with Bizar Guy: Developers have thousands of new additional polygons to play with on the next gen systems - use it for something more then just making 45k poly characters.

Technology should bridge gaps between gameplay, such as doing new in-game inovations not before possible in previous systems, rather then putting resources into making better shaders.

Is that so? The PC doesn't have any advantage over consoles.
Console processors are optimized for things games need: the Dreamcast SH4 processor could do a 4x4 matrix multiplication in a single instruction. The 360 apparently does dot-products in a single instruction.
Have you had a look at the PC's architecture? There are so many ugly patches due to backwards-compatability! PPC/RISC pwn.
Oh, and what do you need multi-tasking for, when you want games??? The overhead is something consoles won't have (at least not to that extent).
Don't believe me? Well, the DC could render a constant 60fps in Dead or Alive 2, and it has a 200mhz processor. Think you can get a P2 to do that?

Yay dreamcast rocks! And yea DOA2 is beautiful on it, far better than the PS2 version, and even stands up well against the xbox versions

I'd say the only real advantages of a PC for gaming are moddable games, and hard disk installs (I hate swapping cds/dvds dunno why!) Of course, xbox and xbox 360 can do both those things with a little gentle persuasion

Main thing is upgrades. All consoles (so far) have pretty much stayed at the same configuration throughout their life. With the obvious exceptions of a few (failures in terms of sales). I mean when the XBox came out it had awesome specs, but was soon eclipsed by the PC, and the same happened for the other consoles. Assuming it's 4-5 years until the next gen consoles come out, then you can safely assume the PC will totally leave them behind. Probably sooner rather than later.

consoles may be optimised for games, but the pc doesnt need to be simply because it can brute force everything with raw power. I mean a simple example is ram, easilly upgradable and doesnt cost that much more than a pc game, maybe 2. I bought my ram one stick at a time whenever i could afford it and am currently running around 1.2gigs of the stuff. Can continually upgrade the hardware and give it a few months and pc's are more powerful than the consoles. Modding and patching is easier on the pc which makes for more playability, though this is becoming more possiable on the console.

At current, my pc is a better gaming rig than my ps2. Hell, it even plays playstation games better than my ps2 does, and with antialiasing etc applied by my card and the opengl shader gpu plugins make the psx games look gorgous. Ps2 emulation is swimming along now too, I look forward to the day I can play my ps2 games on the pc (official ones, not downloaded ones).

Consoles have two things going for them. It has nothing to do with dvds or their media ability because everyone already has things to do that, thats just novelty. What consoles have is portability (..excusing the xbox) and the "couch factor". Sometimes its just nice to sit on the couch in the living room and play games on the tv. But mind you, playing phantasy star online or any plethora of ps1/n64 games that I own on the pc using my pad adapter (takes ps1 AND n64 input /joygasam) and laying on my bed with my feet up playing the game on my pc full screen with max details in nice too. and my pc has a better sound system than my tv, heh.

sum up with "a console is for christmas, a pc is for life"

I find it almost amusing how the example you use for cheap computer components is RAM.

You've conveniently excluded Video cards, and possibily motherboard/processor upgrades. When you start doing all of these things together, it can become a -very- expensive process.. And almost definately more expensive than buying a console.

The point of consoles is you dont have to continue to upgrade them constantly, they plug and play, and have games developped for them specifically, that's the other point i wanted to make.. There are ALOT of -console exclusive- games.. A lot of games that i wouldnt want to use a mouse and keyboard for.. And before you say it's possible to hook up an xbox/xbox 360 controller to the pc.. Not -all- games support it.

Um, I "love the way" you entirely missed the point

The point is you CAN upgrade your pc's parts. Upgrading your console is much harder. Also, you dont need to go top of the line everytime you upgrade. you can get very good cards for 125 if you want to talk about graphics cards - only those with lots of spare cash/richparents/are in the scene (its a hobby like any other) will be running dual 7600's in sli. Hell, I still use a radeon 9600, but 25 quid got some majorly decent cooling for it and its now over clocked and running EVERYTHING like a dream from thief3 to halflife2 to the prince of persia;s to quake 4. I'm very happy with it and the card I admittedly got for free from a friend when he upgraded but you can pick it up now for 60 if you look in the right place. Thats one and a half console games at the latest prices. and once you've done it a well thoughtout upgrade can last you a long time.

Your consoles capibilities are fixed when they are released, unless a rare revision is made but then you have to buy the addons/new console when that happens. Games may begin to look nicer etc as developers get more used to programming for it and inventing new tricks for the hardware but that sort of growth is limited, it is not limited like that on the pc. If you have the kit for it (or upgrade) then you can crank the games up to new resolutions, enable more effects and when you've turned on everything you can you can still goto your cards properties direct and enable any thing that the game doesnt nativly support if you have the spare juice. Hell, even old games that dont get changed can suddenly become great. Its like how I previously mentioned about my ps1 games being gorgous on my pc thanks to forced antialiasing etc.

I dont want you to get me wrong, I like my consoles. But im not gonna sit hugging my knees and gibber lies about how they are "technically" better than pc's when they simply arnt - in the few areas they are they are about 5 months away from being out-dated. My pc is simply a better rig.

As for your comment about not everything supporting pads, heh, most things do and for those that dont theres joy to key (a joystick to keyboard mapper which will simulate keyboard presses by taking input from the joystick and relaying it) - with that EVERYTHING is supported. Again, I like consoles and im not trying to "diss" them or put them down, but I wont belittle the power of a well built pc either.

I'm sorry if i offended in any way.. i didnt mean for my comments to come off as an attack or anything like that..

You say that your card is good, and overclocked supports a lot of games awesomely.. But it's still not the equivalent of an xbox 360 chip for example...

I dont really want to argue about this, everyone has their own opinions I'm not saying i like consoles anymore than pc's or likewise, simply that i dont want to spend money to upgrade my pc everytime a new game comes out.. That's where the 360 comes in, every game is developped the same way for every -same- xbox 360 unit.

Game developpers have to anticipate problems with games running on different types of processors/graphics cards etc..

i got my 360 saturday, premium, 4 wireless controllers, xbox live, project gothem 3, perfect dark zero, and call of duty 2, they're all awesome, and i played my 360 for about 17hours straight and nothing went wrong, so i either have a second generation, or im not part of the 3% failure rate, i do wish the hard drive was a bit bigger tho, im already close to 10gb left, and it only really comes with 12, but otherwise, im in love with it

Yeah, i beat Call of Duty 2 last night.. was a really great game.. I found multiplayer online lagged a lot for me though which was sad(i dont care too much cuz i rented it)...

I also rented project gotham 3 which i'm still working on, been playing for hours and i'm only about 13% done the game.

The only games i own are PDZ and Condemned... I highly recommend Condemned to anyone who has a 360.. really good game especially with a surround sound setup.

On a different note, anyone see a video of Battlefront 2 running on the PSP? It looks almost better then the PS2 version...maybe it's I get one of those little things...

Er, yeah, at the minute. But the Xbox 360 is now static (apart from that v2 thats supposed to come out mid 2006 with HD-DVD etc) while the PC isn't. Exactly what I was saying earlier. The point is you *can* upgrade the PC (in the future) to be much more powerful. May cost several times as much as a single XBox360 to do it, but the point is you *can* do it, and the console will still be exactly the same as when it came out in 2005. Theres nothing wrong with that, but that is what will happen. Look at the original Xbox. Was *awesome* specs when we first saw it and when it first came out. Now it is a hunk of junk that just cannot compete with pretty much any modern PC (well, when you consider TV resolution anyways). But it was superior to any PC when it first came out.

I have an Xbox360, and no problems have occoured, and i got it on the day of release, with Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Call of Duty 2, and i have been nothing but impressed by the systems capabilities, and the all round auro of the console, its more powerful than my computer, and my computer has a Nvidia 7800GTX graphics card, 64-bit dual core processors, and 2GB of ram.
The Xbox360 has 3 processors but each one is hyperthread, wich is the equivilant of having 6 64-bit processors, its got a special graphics card(cant remember it at the moment), and the ram is 512 GDDR3 ram, its a specialy developed peice of hardwarefor the 360. If you compare the specs of this console to its previous generation, the jump of performance was unbelievable. The Xbox(original) was more powerful than the PS2, and was playing games such as Halo 2, with only 64mb of ram!!! And to increase from that size of memory to 512, its a big jump. The ram on the 360 is also very flexible. It can split its 512 mb of ram into different levels, depending on what the game requires. For example, the 512 ram could be put into 256 for gameplay and 256 for graphics, or 100 for gameplay and 100 for graphics. It decides on the moment of play in the game aswell.

The 360 is so user friendly aswell, its system also encourages developers to develop games for the console, because it uses the same system as the computer.

I heard that the 360's were crashing but that was because they were abused, and over estimated on their ability to cool down its processors and graphics card. The processors would over heat and would blow up. But this was only after about 16 hours play constanty, and the back and side ventilations of the console were blocked up.

Some of the consoles are bound to be faulty, and full refunds or replacements should be given. But, if you think about it, the console is new and ahead of the competition. And only 0.1% of the console were faulty.

But Trust me, I spent about 700 euro on this machine and it is not a waste of money.

P.s. While im on the subject of Sony. Even though the PS3 is going to be one hell of a machine, that will probably be more powerful than the 360, it has the ideas all wrong. Game developers arent encouraged to work for them, and their ram is 256mb on graphics and 256mb on gameplay, the whole time. They have their machine upside down. Sony is become a name brand, if something has Sony then its the "best".

When Sony first came into the game console wars, with nintendos N64, it bought out all the companys, because it is the richer company. Now that Bill Gates has come along with the Xbox360, and with Microsoft at his side, he has the money to by out all the developers, like sony did to nintendo. Sony arent looking kindley to this. Bill Gates is loosing money over the 360 and xbox, because he is selling all the consoles at about half the price thay should be sold at, Sony is going into dept over the PS3 and are charging high prices for it.

Bill Gates will rule!!!

lol @ that last comment!

But seriously how difficulat is it for someone to buy, and enjoy, them both? They're not THAT expensive, just hold off buying a few games and get both - perhaps second hand to save even more Thats what I did with xbox, ps2 and gc, just waited a couple of months after launch for second hand ones to appear when random crack addicts have to sell their games to pay the bills

7 controllers via bluetooth? Where'd you hear that rumour?

Yes. That's what almost everything you hear about the PS3 is. Rumours. There are very few solid facts that you can compare to the PS3 so far. Except that the developers that are making the most impressive games(like metal gear solid 4) are saying that everything they make on the PS3 could also run on the 360.

Face it, the raw power of both of these machines are almost the same. The whole blu-ray thing is almost useless, as one person pointed out, the only reason you would need 50 gigs of space would be for pre-rendered cinematics, but the games are looking good enough now that most cut scenes are just in-game.

Besides, we haven't even seen any in-game footage yet from the PS3 AFAIK. Feel free to prove me wrong but pretty much all they've shown are pre-rendered scenes that show what they THINK the graphics could look like. And we all know how Sony overhypes things to the extreme.

yes but even if it came with all 7 of the wireless joypads that wouldn't justify the price difference.

However the cost of the PS3 is always being predicted to be very high, but thats all they are, predictions. Personally I'm pretty sure they'll be close to the 360 launch price. If not then Sony are stupider than I though they were, and the price will drop significantly within 12 months, I can almost guarantee.
