I thinkit would be a good idea if we are all posting in source code, that when we have variables e.g. x# that we call something to do with the source code. Like if i was making something for moving a car, instead of calling them x#, y# and z#. Call them carx#, cary# and carz#. This then makes it a lot easier for the person who assembles all the code together so that if they find 2 source codes that both use x# or whatever. They don't have 2 go through it all and change everything to carx# or whatever. Although they could just use find and replace. But still...

How will the weather system work? Particles? Applying a texture to a skysphere/box?

I'm interested, as I'm planning on writing at least part of the engine and it'd be nice if I didn't accidentally block off whatever it is you're trying to do.

ok the basic idea is that in a car there will be particals falling down the screen. In 1st person mode the same thing happens, but in a cut seen for example, it will be particals that splash on other things (collision )

This is ok as long as it gradually does so. Maybe you could experiment with blending the two "time zones" to make it look as if the sun is breaking through the storm...

P.s dumbo + dodic - how are you guys doing??? I havent heard from you two for a long time.

has anyone made any music 4 this project yet? cus the one on the menu i made sucks big time. I haven't got any decent(as in good cus i can't spell) music on my PC. So i had 2 use the ?$^*(@@)(*)(* (rather rude word) music that came wid DBC. Has anyone downloaded the menu cus i want sum feedback so i can ikmprove it more. That was only the second version of it. U can download it in a post above here(some where)

i'v just come up wid a great idea 4 the weather engine.
perhaps if u have a skybox and load the apropriate texture 4 the time of day and hav all the rain and sun and stuff. But 4 night why don't u use gamma fading. Damn...that would mean the HUD would fade as welll

huh?

Oh yeah, you also might want to make the camera range the same range as the fog.

i made this flight simulator using DBC and i had sprites 4 the menu but i forgot to delete them when the flying starts and so some of the images are using the same image number as the sprites. So i got a really strange effect which inckuded having an extra camera looking out from the plane. But nothing in my code did that. It was just cus of the sprites. By the way. The person who is making model vehicles i saw your one of the car. It was pretty good except 4 the low poly. But i can't talk cus i'm terrible at modeling. 4 the gun switching you could have it so if you switch guns it changes a variable and loads the gun model accordingly. Also how is the machine gun gonna be made cus it's really hard. In real life u cann't see the bullets so just use tracers and it would be pointless trying to animate all those bullets. U could use raycasting but that is only in DBP which i ain't got. There r sum forum posts about it if u search 4 machine gun. Soz if it looks long it is just so i don't get accused of spamming the thread. Great news... I don't have 2 wait 2 post messages any more!!! they appear straight away

Heh, i remember when i released a 'flight simulator' in DBC in the 20 line challenge forum a while back... It was just triangles flying, but they were so peerrrtty with their movements ^_^

Still, thanks for the support Wilderbeast.

i've finally got to grips and decided how to make the weather engine. Nut i was wondering if we were just having a simple skybox with a texture according to what time it is. Or having particle clouds and rain(i've modeled this anyway)and posibly aircraft that fly across the sky(just 4 effect!) I've started making it already so if there's anything anybody wants me 2 add then say it now cus once i get going on it, then i don't want to be modifieing the code just to make sum random and useless thing like puddles.
U can probably do the machine gun with maths so that it calculates a point in front of the gun and sees if there's anything colliding with it. Great work on the models, is there a website or forum post with sum screenies?

the latter would be brilliant - although it would be fine to just use the first one if you come up with a glitch

Sorry, I haven't been putting in anywhere near as much effort on this project as I should have been doing recently; what with one thing and another, I ended up spending the last three days trying to get the Gentoo Linux Minimal Installation Disc to compile a nice kernel onto my USB hard drive...

I logged on to Windows for a few minutes to download some stuff, and I quickly wrote a nice, primitive universe (object) loader.

I haven't had a chance to test it (it would only work properly combined with other files as a complete project), but have a dig through and tell me what you think. If someone makes a logging file, make a function called LogError() to log errors to a file and then uncomment all the 'rem LogError("blah")' commands in fatal error places.

This loader is pretty much bulletproof (it checks almost everything), and will report accurate and concise errors if you enable the LogError commands.

[edit] Nnnnngggg. The defaults for xscl#, yscl# and zscl# should be 100.0, not 0.0.. >.<
I'll upload a fixed version later. For now:

That's all so far. [/edit]

Great... I've only just started the weather engine and i've already got a problem. I've started by making a matrix and creating a big sphere and texturing it with a sky texture....A skybox in effect. It looks great from the outside, but of course you won't be playing the game outside the sky. So when i went inside the sphere it disapers completely, it's not because it's a small sphere or anything. Cus its as big as the matrix which is 10000,10000. This is a vital part of the weather engine and i desparatly need hlp. Nice work every body else!!!

P.S at this moment i feel like throwing my pc out the window

ok... skysphere!
oh and by the way, when i asked about getting in and out of cars etc. You said about using cutscenes, if that is the case then the camera should be inside the car etc so that if you get in in a blue car and it played a cutscene of you getting into a red car. Basicly what i'm trying to say is the camera in the cutscene should be inside the car so it doesn't matter if you get into a blue car you can't tell the difference cus you cant see the outside of it, it also saves a lot of animating timne

Basically, you should invert your skybox.

To save rendering times triangles facing the wrong way are automatically culled (ignored). You can turn culling off for an object using Set Object, but you'd be better off just flipping your skybox/(sphere) inside out.

(assuming 1 was the number of the skysphere):
scale object 1,-100,-100,-100

i'm getting really anoyed now, thanks 4 helping show the skysphere. Now i have another problem, it's simple enough but my mind is getting currupt trying to solve it. Don't laugh at how simple it is.

it is meant to increase the light or decrease it according to the rgb value, but it won't work, i know why... it's cus of the IF THEN statements, but i can't think what numbers to put in for IF R#>...

Bleh, I added you to MSN. I was going to try and help, but I didn't understand what you were trying to do (hence the addingness) >.>

Anyway, with regards to your new rain, it's easy man! Just make a handful of plains, texture with a rain image, and (making sure the plains are rotated to always face the camera) just move the plains constantly downward and slightly in whatever direction the wind is going.

When a particle (plain) touches the ground, move it back up to the top of the sky again.
