I was in Gamestop(its a games store) and at the time it was 2 weeks before the xbox360 came out, i've got one now but anyway, i saw it over the other side of the shop....no one was on it....this was my chance, this was my time, at least i thought, i went over to the 360, almost gliding across the floor, and my hands were about 3 feet away from the controler. But then, suddenley, a little 6 year old kid, mindless to the world around him, grabs the controler, and starts playing.....I looked at this kid, i wanted to give him a swift backhand, and tell him its for adults. I had to wait 2 weeks to play the console, but it just wasnt fair at the time....Not fair.

What would you have done?

Stabbed him 108 times with a Nintendo DS stylus and then hide his remains in a pre-played Gamecube box.

I got to play the 360 at my local Target store

And here you are plotting revenge on this poor six year old who probably wanted to play the thing as much as you did.

No, you could tell that he didnt even know what a 360 was, he was in with his older brother,(i saw the older brother looking at ps2 games). He is just one of those kids who doesnt know anything, but wants to play with everything. He was playing Kameo, and all he had to do was climb up a wall, to the next area. But, instead, he was their for about 10-15 minutes running into wall after wall, and i was behind him, slowly raising my arm, but then to have it put back down with good morality.

That kid was gonna destroy that consoles sacredness. He had snot pouring out of his nose, and every 15 seconds he would pick his nose, and wipe it all over the controler....But still, i didnt care, i wanted to play. Its wasnt fair!

I recon i should have smothered him outta the way, you know, just push him slowly outta the way with my back, and just slide into the position to hold the controler.

Hmm.. What was he playing? If it was GTA, then I would have taken a photo of him and turned to the store manager and said that if he didn't give me an xBox 360 I would release this photo to the police of an underaged child playing an 18 or over game in his/her store...

Alternatively, I take your chainsaw, plank with nail, buchers knife and bread knife and raise you a cattleprod. They dont really injure people, but I'd imagine that they're pretty good fun! I've always wanted to attach one to a door handle and see how people on the other side of the door react when they try to open it... (now you cant blame THAT on GTA!!)

I'd of just watched him play it. After all, all that tech in the 360 isn't gonna make the games play any better. It's all gonna be the same old s**t, it'll just look a lot better.

you...."you don`t want to play on that 360"
him...."I don`t want to play on this 360"
you...."this isn`t the console you where looking for"
him...."this isn`t the console I was looking for"
you...."move along now"

yeah! I now have the full Starwars collection on DVD, sad isn`t it?

But do you have the specs on your pc to run the game. The gamme would probably recommend about 1gb or 2gb ram and a Nividia 6600gt graphics card. If you have those specs, thenb good for you. I didnt want to sound like i new it all.

@Nicholas Thompson:
Have you ever played an xbox360, or do you even own one. I own one and yes, on some games the gameplay lacks, but it makes up for it in other aspects of the game, not graphicaly, but gameplay wise. But still some games have the right idea, like Call of Duty 2. That game is unbelievable, mabye lacking slightly on graphics but the gameplay is awesome. Its a whole new level of gameplay in the generation, because of the capability of these machines, even good computers.

I agree, but they did release a good console, its just that the developers werent behind them with enough games. They were kinda cocky, because hey wanted to have a better console out.

I've not got an xBox (beit 360 or otherwise). I have seen them in stores in "action" (ie not crashed ). Graphically, lovely... But then again, with the power you have on that thing I should bloody hope so!!

The point I was making is that whenever you ask people in their 20's to 30's who have played games all their life to name a great game, many many many people say simple game such as Pong!

I bet COD2 is a good game and, as you said, graphically its not "great"... Are you noticing a pattern? The games which have effort put into the graphics tend to have very little playability.

Some of the most addictive games I've ever played have graphically probably been amongst the worst! Anyone played bloodwych? That was pretty simple, but I found it VERY addictive. Old too...

Battlefield 2 was/is ok imho. Graphically its nice, and its pretty good fun in multiplayer. Thats about the only game imho (that i've played) recently that deservers the title "good" (from a commercial provider). Live For Speed is excelent, again, imho.

Thats all this comes down to - opinion. My opinion is simple: Program makers now lack the gameplay talent of those programmers 20 years ago who have less than 1% of the resources to play with that we do now. I think programmers now have become lazy and are focussing far to much on eye candy and "look what I found this machine can do!!". I play games for fun and as a break from reality. I rarely want to sit in front of a game and think "wow that looks like its real!" because I could look out the window I could also look at the 600W of heat billowing out the powerhouse of a PC/console required to render that. I could then look at an old machine with a pile of hundreds of classics sitting next to it and wonder where those programmers have gone..

What game should I buy for it?

@Nicholas Thompson - Back in the day, some great games were made. But, don't forget that 1000x more bad games were made. I had tons of terrible CGA games along with a couple that I played all the time.

The same thing is happening now, just with better graphics and bigger budgets. Same thing has been going on in movies for years and years. Video games are just a newer media.

How can you say that Pong is such a pinnacle achievement? Sure, it's a pioneer--- but that's *it*. You seriously know people who think Pong's gameplay is better than most games nowadays? You're looking at the past through rose-coloured glasses, my friend.

Games such as Tetris Attack are old and addictive--- now *those* titles are pinnacle achievements. Pong has got to be the most repetitive and annoying game in history that made a ton of money for its developers.

Seriously--- can you sit there and play Pong against the computer for hours on end? Didn't think so. I have a great respect for old consoles and games, too. Anyone who's seen my collection of retro would agree that I prefer the classics. But there were, as Cash Curtis II states, seriously crappy games back in the day. For every Super Mario Brothers there were 3,000 Puss 'n' Boots or ETs.

maybe not Pong...but its brother, Breakout?, that still has me hooked, some of the versions out there are realy addictive, and you have to think that development times where much shorter "back in the good old days" too, so rather than waiting four or five years for a game (that might never get released) we waited just a few months, if one in ten games was a "keeper" then as now, back then we had five or ten times as many good games as we do today in any one time period, I remember my HUGE tape collection, plus you had all those little nitch game makers who released stuff that occasionaly had the odd gem, I used to be into Maziacs and Jumbly for example, neither was rocket science, but I liked them even if most people didn`t and they where not best sellers, you had way more choice.

If things had continued as they where back then up to today then the local "Game" store would be the size of Asda, all this added media doesn`t actualy make the game good, bad games are still unplayable (ie X2 or War of the Worlds), but it does mean that rather than the mainline makers putting out new releases every hour of the day, you get em days, weeks or months apart, I think they should spend more time on the actual games than the media, maybe even break the game into the game proper and level/media packs, more is better imo.

@Nicholas Thompson:
I agree with what you say about opinion, and that games do lack gameplay sometimes with the graphics being really good. But in conection with this, the PS3 is said to be a really powerfull console, graphicaly. But, many developers(famous ones, like the developer of Metal Gear Solid)have said that the console is focusing to much on its games graphics, and this is going to drop the matter of gameplay by far to much.

@The Dude Guy:
If you like fun racing at really fast speeds, with the tention of cops chasing you down, and to hear the cars roar, with the turbo hissing, until that final moment of power with nitrous oxide to break away, then go for Need For Speed: Moset Wanted. I'm playing it at the moment, and i'm not the least disappointed. Look at a video of a cop chase if you can find one on another website, like www.Gamespot.com

http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1129/Need-for-Speed-Most-Wanted/#movies

If you want a driving simulator, Project Gotham Racing 3 wpuld be it. The cars handle very realisticly, the graphicss are realistic, and the blur effect when you race gives an aspect of gameplay needed for reaalism. You can drive inside the cars seeing the dashboard , steering wheel, your hands, etc. An with the camera you can look smoothly around the car in an direction you wont, without jolting. Check out the videos.

http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1248/Project-Gotham-Racing-3/#movies

If you want a realistic war game, then go for Call of Duty 2. You fight in deserts, fields, villages, and beaches. They capture the feel of war perfectly. Theirs not much to say about this game, because you have to see it, you cant explain it. Check out the videos. Watch the video called "Pointe Du Hoc Gameplay Footage".

http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1138/Call-of-Duty-2/#movies

If your looking for a futuristic shooter, then go for Perfect Dark Zero. If you have ever played the first perfect dark on the n64, then you will probably think of this game as a let down. Even though the multiplayer is fun and the one-player is fun, and the gameplay features like hiding behind walls, the game can still be seen as a good game. But, not as good as its previous title. Check out the videos.

http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1170/Perfect-Dark-Zero/#movies

Why is everyone blinded by the dreamcast. I understand that it was a good console, but its in the past. Plus it will never be made, because sega made it, and they've teamed up with nintendo. So there will never be a Dreamcast 2!!!

The Dreamcast graphics are neck -n- neck with some PS2 game grahics. The reason it lost was due to when both were released and what had just came out at that time. And now you say there will never be a Dreamcast 2. HA, if I ever go into game dev. as a career, I will buy royaltyies from Sega and prove you WRONG. Okay, j/k but hey, if I have the change to, I will!

If only they made a new smaller portable Dreamcast....it would ravage the market like 18th century English soldiers on a small French village.

This home-made one is good, but much too bulky!
