Congratulations, and glad to hear she's doing good now

Out of curiosity, did she come home with a suntan? I wonder if you can tan when you're that young...

heh, no suntan per-se. The lights help break down the toxins that have risen to below the skin, the jaundice manifests as red or yellow skin pigment until it subsides. Jessica was a lil reddish and is still a little but that will subside. Each day she is alive her liver and kidneys get stronger and can better cope with toxins, and the condition disappears.

I had awful jaundice...not to mention that I could push myself up on my arms and lift my head the day I was born...I guess I've always been precocious.

Congrats Cattle! Now you'll have to teach her what growing up in New York is all about... teach her stick ball, show her where the BEST pizza places are, inform her that the Brooklyn Bridge is NOT for sale, teach her about the Yankees and how they own, explain why to avoid anything past of 80th st. after dark, show her why you should never tailgate people that have New Jersey plates, and last but certainly not least, make sure she uses curse words in the proper context They're things all of us New Yorkers need to know from an early age

Again, congrats!!!

[edit: I think all of the stuff I said up there is the reason people should be glad I'm not a parent yet, lol]

nobody saw that movie kirikou?

Quote: "A tiny voice is heard from inside the womb of a pregnant woman : "Mother, give birth to me !"

"A child who can speak from his mother's womb can give birth to himself", replies the mother.

And so a little boy is born, cuts his own umbilical cord and declares : "My name is Kirikou" "

more drama:

Since Jessie has been home we have had to take her each day for a blood test to keep checking the Bilirubin level. Well, as of yesterday's test it has risen back up to 15! They called last night and told us to take her today to the hospital for a full range of blood tests as well as another Bili. They also told my wife to stop breast feeding for the time being and to use formula instead. They suspect a possible incompatibility in the breast milk. We'll see. Otherwise she's happy and healthy and is awesome to stare at Hope we get this crap sorted soon - my wife is on an emo rollercoaster.

Ah, Bugger mate...

But don't worry, the Doc's will take care of 'er for you and you can stare at her some more later... ( Which I'm not sure is entirely a healthy habit to form )

OMG. How did I miss this thread? Congrats!

Yeah my sister went through pretty much the same thing eccept a different chemical type vitamin/mineral thingy that I can't remember. Back and to, to the hospital. Took about 2 weeks to get my nephew straightened out. They put him on formula and a liquid vitamin of some sort until he was 6 months old, then is straightened itself out. Good luck and hope it all goes well.

And don't give her steroids, birth control pills, caffeine, or tylenol the day before the test, they throw the readings off along with a bunch of other stuff

thanks guys.

Update: All is finally well. Turns out theres an incompitiblity in the breast milk so we have switched to formula. Once the breast milk was removed from the diet the Bilirubin went to normal and stayed there. My wife was a little upset as you can imagine, but she got over it quickly as breast feeding is a royal pain in the ass Anyway all is well now, all other blood tests were spot on normal. Thanks.

Nice to hear that it's all sorted!
Shame about the breastmilk thing, though... Even though it's a pain, I bet your wife feels strange not breastfeeding...

Oh well, no worries as long as she ( and your wife ) is healthy
