I kept wishing something else would happen, like it starts out bad ass then it goes all psychological.

But it's in space, if they're in space, they should be fighting aliens, not poncing around with a big evil globe, that just spells misery.

I didn't like either SAW, they were both kinda, meh.
Hostel was boring and made me regret buying the large tub of popcorn.

As far as I'm conserned with horror films, they have to actually:
a) make me jump
b) once the movie is over remain in my head with a 'what if...'

it's why the alien movies are the only ones that truely s**t me up, and that's why i feel they're possibly the best horror series of all time. (especially Aliens)

Terminator and Robocop, the first movies were very good horrors. I mean Terminator after you watch it alot looses that scareiness; but for some reason the sick nature of that gang in Robocop doesn't.. maybe cause I know full well there are gangs like that in the world.

Predator was another good one, it kept you on the edge of your seat because you didn't know what was going on.. I guess it's the same reason I liked Pitch Black. I've not liked modern horrors because they've just been trying to gross out the audience and take the fear factor from real things. Problem is with real things is it's not *as* scarey because at the end of the day, your not using your own imagination at all. I've always found that's what scares me the most.

I think that Saw, and Saw 2 are actually the best examples of films that do just that. The twist endings are both great, and do make you think a lot after the film.

I've always believed that the definitive difference between a Horror and a Thriller was that a Horror is meant to invoke fear through gorey scenes whilst a Thriller is simply meant to be scary.

Gorey scenes and wierd murders aside, anyone watch A beautiful Mind? Even though that was a drama, I found it scarier then most horror films. Just goes to show you that some people can yawn through grizzly murder scenes, yet end up freaked out for weeks after watching an good psycologial movie...

I did see the first saw film, but didn't impress me. If you want to see a REALLY sick film, get the complete uncensored 128 minute version of 'Ichi the Killer' from Takeshi Miike. When they premiered that film in japan, people were handing sick bags out to everyone going in, and I heard nearly half of them were used!

By the way, if you live in the UK don't get the official version of Ichi, get an imported one, our censors cut 8 minutes out!

On the subject of modern horror, I've given up on american horror films and gone completely japanese. Here're a list of some of the japanese horror films I know of.

Ichi the Killer (not strickly horror, but it definately scares people!)

"A Beautiful Mind" creeped me out... Regular horror and whatnot, I rarely jump. Blink a couple of times, perhaps, but lame doom3 scare tactics never disturbed me. It's the psycho stuff that gets in my mind - ever watch a Hitchcock movie? That's the stuff there alright

On the subject of Japanese horror, I have to say I really like the original Dark Water.

Now a scary movie would be if somebody decided to make Catcher in the Rye into a film. Oh god so many nightmares of Holden and him saying goddamn... >_<

Just skip all those 'horrors' you're talking about, watch Shaun of the Dead. It's teh rox0rz!

Anyway, Saw 1 was awesome. Saw 2 was not just as exciting, but still a great movie. Very intriguing, both of 'em.

What about Hide and Seek, the one with DeNiro? I think it's very good, although I'm not sure whether it's horror, drama or thriller. It kept me excited till the end...

Or the Amityville Horror, that's okay too. KIND OF A SPOILER

I saw perfect blue. The movie makes you....sort of dizzy. Mainly cause you're trying to figure out what the heck is going on.
