There's some great 'legal' stuff available on torrents, like the XBox MAME disk with 1800 roms, that freakin rules and it's so big that it would never be uploaded. There's lots of homebrew console stuff, it really isn't all about pirated software or movies.

If not for torrents, I've no idea how I'd get to watch Lost every week.

Personally I get more fun out of a DVD packed with retro games than any pirated game - I find that actually buying software means you'll play it as opposed to see what it's like then forget it, buying a game is like an investment in time, you've paid X money for X hours of gameplay, and you intend to use them all - when you don't pay, it's like the game is lower quality. Dunno if anyone will know what I mean - maybe comes from years of saving pocket money to buy games, and looking forward to them so much - made me crazy .

I dont use bit torrent. I do own, and I mean fully license, legally own,3DS Max and Maya and Photoshop CS2. These are the courses I paid for and am attending in the evenings and wanted to own the software so I didnt have to use the University Labs.

Now,dont get me wrong, ill straight up pirate ANY software that I feel I may want to use for any of my projects and if I begin to generate any income from it or forsee a future using it,ill break out the visa and go buy it.

My Photoshop Prof also openly said to the class
Quote: "look,we arent kidding anyone. Youre going to need PS CS2 for the next 3 months. We all know how to get it and free and untime limited and feature limited. Get it, use it for this course and get rid of it. If you make cash from it? Buy it."

And before any of you start ranting about it,yes I do (and im sure Rich can confirm this) own DBP legally and many tgc apps, legally.

I'd have to agree. I think it's all good and innocent if it's for learning purposes, but once you start making cash or just commercial work from it then it's time to pay up.

What a strange day it is, I agree with Jeku on something But yeah, relating to what has been said, those who are crossing out their bit torrents have a guilty coscience, I have limewire and I'm sure everyone by now knows how much I hate pirates, but I've only actually used it once though, but nothing illegal, honest!

Obviously that is still illegal, I don't care who you are or what nice fluffy ways you want to word it. There is nothing on the company site saying "feel free to download and give us an I.O.U. for when you make cash from it." You can't get a PC for free until you make money to pay for it, so don't give me that B.S.

There is no such protection of ignorance in court. They judge won't give you a lighter sentence if you claim that you will delete Photoshop after your semester ends. It's still against the law, and that's that.

I hate when people pussyfoot around their pirating ways--- all it is is a lame attempt at making yourself feel better.

happy times. I dont really pirate much. I tried it but i never really finished any of the downloads. There always slow as crap then i realized I really i dont care that much. Im fairly certain everything on my computer right now is legal. Some of the music i got from friends and im not even going to question. Buyt im sure most of that is as well. Musicians are usually poor as hell anyways, this internet thing is really bringing them down.

Has anyone brought up the biggest sin of the forum (NO! I MEAN THE TORRENT WORLD!)? Pirating of any TGM products? Luckily there is only 1 DBPro torrent which I just searched and the health is 1, luckily no seeders or leechers, because the person was dumb enough to upload their DB Pro, not the installation. But just think, all the people who have benefited from downloading TGM stuff from bittorrent when they could have known they have donated to a good service (Ehhh.... I bought mine off ebay...) but the thing is TGM need the money to keep making their programs (Unless they code it on DBP, which is the better alternative as it is their own product, but if you want to keep the forums up and running, programs keep coming, and even this whole website being here, lets **** the torrents! (I rarely pirate, but I do it sometimes, for the REALLLY expensive things e.g. 3DS Max etc). Damn my fingers are hurting. I'm not taking a rest from typing though.

So piracy is okay if you want it to be okay.

You do know there are forum members who hate pirates, IE. Myself (Not the Wigget kind of pirate, thats completely differant) Because I hate thieving little gits who just download whatever they can't afford and leave others doing the honest thing and saving up for it, I payed for my software, what I've payed for I am completely happy with, if I had 3DS Max, I would probaly only use its renderer and perhaps animation tools, I don't with pirates they always go for stuff like 3DSMax, yet a lot of them would be better off with other applications they'd work better (I'm not going to name any, you will probaly pirate them anyway) There are plenty of cheap/free tools for us indies that do the job we need to the higher qualities and generally easier than 3DS Max.

Plus I wouldn't try to glorify yourself, heck even admit it, there is the risk of someone giving this page link to autodesk along with your email address and any info they can give.

I don't like that type of pirate to, Most of my software I by second hand...

If where to obtain software illegally ( though I havn't), and liked it, I would be sure to buy, after all. you all want people to buy your db games right? you wouldn't want people sharing them over a P2P network if you plan on selling them.

As a Q, did the person with torrents on his desktop but "scratched out" get banned?

If you truely hate pirates, make false torrents that install software that uninstalls any torrent or p2p software that it knows of. I wonder if you can actually get arrested for that... I mean to get the uninstaller you have to be committing an illigal act...

It's not illegal to use torrents, so there's no proof that he was downloading anything that look illegal as they were scratched out. No use in banning.
