I just hope Zidane really hurt that Italian player.

He is my new hero, Zidane is.

Oh really. I'm glad that's cleared up then. When I saw that Italy had won I really thought it was Bosnia who had won. Bravo.

Me too! Although he did deserve sending off - consderably more so than Rooney Its funny how Rooney's was a straight red (no delay) whereas Zidane's required consultation with an assistant.

It also looked like a nipple tweak before the incident. Tweaking a frenchmans nipple.... either very brave - or veyr stupid.

Yes, they won. But they had better hurry back to Italy for all the match-rigging court cases.

Ermes Italy didn't even play all the teams there were to play the world cup. so you can't say that every other team is rookie. I mean you guys tied USA with an own goal lol.

Both sides were poor really - they all lacked inspiration, which lead to a shoot-out.

That sounds funny coming from someone who's country was the most boring in the tournament.

It would be so funny to see all those top teams relagated. Where are they relagated to though? The division below, or the very bottom?

I didn't watch the whole match, but from what I saw, France were the better side. The headbutt was pure genius. I reckon Zidane had some kind of grudge against him, so wanted to use that last chance to headbutt the guy in the chest.

SOS Racism call "law" against the FIFA because Marco Materazzi threated Zinedine Zidane to "Dirty terrorist". They want the FIFA to make what they must do when racism is founded !

That's why Zidane hurted the italian player in match !!!
if someone say that kind of things about you .. won't you react like Zidane ?

when you have players that do that kind of things ... how can you be proud to win a match at 11 against 10 players ?

Italy is far to be the best team ... They simply get lucky cos ... France May have win the match !

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

I'm tempted to say "That Zidane guy's stupid." but what did the other player say to him?

Congrats to Italy, you guys spent hours yelling at me out of your car window yesterday, so I guess you're pretty happy.

I'll take that offer if he doesn't!

Ditto, the only players that I think played well were Crouch, Lennon, Gerrard and Rooney and they were only good in their own little bits, other teams played much better, but then most teams didn't play to their potential, but England still stank, France and Italy were really the only two teams that play and interesting game and not just because of the violence with France/Italy Italy/USA

*Headbutt to Ermes* OHHH Rock doesn't get booked! Sorry, I was rooting for France as well

But the good news is, in Fifa 06 I've taken Oxford United almost all the way, knocking Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester U. out of my way. The best part is, I haven't figured out how to do a header this WHOLE time lol (and I've made it though league 2, league 1, and all the way into the FA). Any of you play that game on the PS2? Can you even do a header? And how do you import player-created characters into manager mode? And in the FA, who are (in your opinions) the best forwards (so I can try to buy them)? I'm American lol, I can't play American teams, they all stink

It doesnt matter what the other player said. A true professional and especially one who has so much experience would know that it was done to provoke. It is a fool who retaliates with violence especially on the climax of his career.

It's amazing to think, a simple lower league 'your mom' jibe found its way into the World Cup final. That's playground stuff, no reason to get sent off.

If I were Zidane, I would wait until the match was over, then find out where that Materazzi bloke lives, and send him a very, VERY angry letter.

Interesting.... If, indeed, Materazzi said 'We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore.' it raises a serious question (imho). Does Italy deserver to keep the World Cup? Is it fitting that the champions of one of the worlds most lucrative and watched sports contains players who would say such things just to "get at someone".

Personally - I think Italy should be stripped of the cup and shamed. FIFA need to clamp down on this kind of cheating (and cheating in general). Stupud £200,000 fines wont do anything as most football players can earn that back easily, maybe in 1 month?

The only way to stop this kind of cheating is to make a player realise he is not invincible and above FIFA. Currently he's laughing - at FIFA probably for doing nothing.

Of course - this all depends how accurate the lip reader is.

Regardless I've believed for a long time that 1 cheater in a TEAM should result in TEAM disqualification. Look back at the last world cup. Someone passed the ball to a brazillian player (cant remember who) who promptly collapsed to the floor holding his face even though the ball gently rolled into his shin. With 20 camera's and millions of people watching him, he got away with it. If it were me, I'd have sent Brazil home and announced that a specific player had disgraced his nation while playing on behalf of his country. See how long it takes him to earn that one back. Also see how many people cheat after that.
If you or I got cheating on that scale (fraud?) I think we'd end up in jail - why should they be any different?

Heck in american football, or basketball, if the players attacked whenever someone trash talked about their mother, religion, liking men, or whatnot the whole group would be sent off before the game passed 10 minutes. Trash talking and provoking people is an unfortunate part of the game here. They say MJ was one of the worst.

Does that make it right? Does it make it ok to leave "as-is" and ignore? Or should someone be stomping it out? "Part of the game" implies its in the rules. Is it?

I think he got a fine, but as you said, it's pocket money to them. I think it would be great to clamp down on this sort of thing but it'd pretty hard to manage (for the most part it'd be one player's word against another). I think something that should (and no doubt will) be looked at is the idea that as soon as you're touched by another player you roll around on the floor like there's no tomorrow (as in the example Nicholas pointed out).

I don't know too much about the human body, but surely Zidan could have killed the other player without too much effort. He hit him hard enough to knock him off his feet, I'm sure it wouldn't have taken much more to do some serious damage, either to himself or his target.

He's Italian... He's trained to fall to the floor easily.

Quote: "it'd pretty hard to manage"

How? There are dozens of camera's at every game. A billion witnesses worldwide.
If a court can rule for you or I to go to jail for fraudulent behaviour, why cant some guy at FIFA say "We got you on film cheating - off you go. You're never 'playing' football again". Unless FIFA start taking that level of action then nothing will work. Money has no meaning.

EDIT:

Do they specifically forbid guns or nuclear warheads?

Hear, hear. And it couldn't go to France because headbutting people in the chest is not on. Couldn't go to Germany because... er... they invaded Poland in 1939. So Portugal would get it!

No, wait. We couldn't get it either because we have players who have the nerve of placing their balls under English players feet. Tsk.

I say give it to Burkina Faso. Yeah, that's the one.

And portugal are entirely innocent! They never tried to get any players sent off!

As much as I hate to admit it - I think France should get it. Zidane shouldn't have headbutted and he got sent off for it - however, if the lipreading is right, he had a VERY valid reason to do so (imho) so a red card is enough. That was a personal attack on him.

To be honest, I dont think any of the top teams (Endland included) deserve the World Cup.

Like I said there's the idea that as soon as you're touched you fall to the floor but watching the head butt I just get the feeling that he genuinely was knocked over.

I agree they could do a lot more to get rid of most cheating, but when it comes to exchanging words there are times when it's obvious what's being said (Rooney comes to mind) but to try and punish every single occurrence would be almost impossible imo.

He knows how many children see him as an inspiration, now we know who to blame when 'happy butting' starts being filmed on mobiles around the world.

No these would be criminal offenses so likely forbidden. There is no specific rule that says you are allowed to breathe either, but people get away with it all the time

@Davit T : The problem is that the Zidane's mother was at hospital and in bad wealth condition. Apparently the italian have insulted Zidane's sister too and threated him to "Dirty Arab Terrorist" that's why SOS Racism and other organism call FIFA do find the thruth

@Miguel, if I remind you, the guy that Zidane headbutt was the guy that did put the Italy goal ... Secondly, if there wasn't that problem, the french team may have been less stressed and maybe we didn't miss the penalty. With our kicker Zidane in the 10 last minutes, chances to make a new goal were better ! with all theset, the france did maybe win the match ...
Instead of this, we finished the match 10 against 11, more stressed and in bad condition for penalty... I think result may have been different if circumstancies were differents ! and cos Italy caused the bad circumstancies ... you understand what'll follos...

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

I'm not one for Political Correctness on the level of "person hole cover" and all that crap, but that level of racism is just uncalled for and disgusting. I still stand by my reasoning of a country not being allowed to hold onto the world cup if their team was an international disgrace like that!
