Ref's do need to start clamping down on things like this - the whole refereeing in the tournament has been very poor.

Italy shouldnt have even gotten past australia. the curcumstances of the win were "questionable" at best. I was kind of hoping germany would beat france just so they could whoop italy. oh well

Surelly, Nick, you cannot expect the referee to detect wispered racist comments on top of offsides, hard tackles and dives?

Or did I just miss what you were answering to altogether?

I have vague plans for World Domination

And headbutting isnt? You walk up to someone on the street, headbutt them and see how long it takes you to be arrested for assault

I know that was aimed at a different Nick, but in THIS Nick's opinion... I dont expect the Ref to be omnipotent, however, I do expect TV footage to be used post-match. Just as CCTV isused if you steal from a shop!

congratulations to all teams, and well as i didn't approve of judges this year i guess they have won by process of elimination.

There's a very fine line to when violence is understood as a response to insults. "ur mom lol" is a highschool stoner's insult yes, but humans arn't machines and eventually they'll crack. The whole reason Germany had that smily-face logo created for this cup was too promote friendship and acceptance among the different teams and nations. I would to agree and say that after what happened, neither France nor Italy deserve the cup.

I commenting that the whole refereeing in the tournament has been poor - what with 3 yellow cards, not booking play-acting and missing fouls. It is just one part of the problem.

To be honest, I think people who dive should get instant red. No arguments, just sent off straight away. That will lower the number of stoppages by at least half I think.

There is something we've forgot with this problem.
The referee did use the 4th referee under Camera to state if Zidane get a Red or not. The problem is that the use of 4th referee under camera is forbidden. Zidane may have been sanctioned but only after the match. He may not have been retired by red card from the match !
It's a fault from the referee !

I've always got the impression that poor enforcement of the rules is intentional. It ensures controversy and keeps everybody talking about the game last night. That's why they have shunned all the technological advances other sports use to help enforce the rules.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

@the_winch: I believe you are right. People get so worked up and emotionally involved with "their team" getting cheated or injustice in general that they forget one small fact. Its a game! (allbeit a game people get paid lottery-level sums of money for)

Yep. Thought Argentina were the most impressive when they played well, but no single team really looked awesome and unbeatable. Annoyingly it set it up for the first time in ages to be able to sneak the cup away from the usual suspects if everything went well. But then we had Sven. Mr emotional. B****r.....

Dude, your avatar says UK location, but were you born somewhere else? Could be scottish of course. Nothing like bitter resentment

I called Italy the winner weeks ago. Though during the Germany game, I didn't think they were gonna win if it went to penalty kicks.

Here's a flash game where you're zidane and you have to headbutt as many italian players as you can.

Quote: "Yet you chose Oxford United???"

How am I to know! The only Soccer/ football we get on TV over here that isn't MLS is on Sky, and they only ever show the same teams over and over and over again... Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. When I first started playing the game about half a week ago, I started off in Manager Mode with Manchester City (they looked to be the best team of my early choices) but they fired me after I lost the first four games (while trying to learn the controls lol), so I went with Oxford United because Radiohead and Blur are from Oxford Hey, if my pretend in-game Oxford United team were to replace the real-life Oxford, they'd be winning eleven

I didn't know they were bad, and now that I've played them into a legendary status with Bradbury being the #1 striker in England, I can't help but wonder why they aren't that good in real life Oxford United needs a monsterous building-sized PS2 and a brain tapping machine so I can take command of them and lead them to glory

They have no money. Full stop. Manchester United, for example, were (bought out by an american who put them straight into debt) the richest club in the world at one point and were worth around £1 billion ($1.8 billionish).

Here's a question about Fifa 2006 (the game)... why are the biggest names in the sport not present? Beckham? No where to be seen. Zidane? Not headbutting anyone on the PS2. Ronaldo? Eating a cheeseburger elsewhere (I can't get over his pudginess). The only *really* famous people (like, people who are going to be legends) in the game that I can recognize are C. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Pele if you unlock him. Either I don't know much about the sport or EA really ****ed the pooch in contract negotiations.

And no Vinnie Jones. I mean come on, Bullet-tooth Tony! A great actor and a football hero and he's not in the game either

Probably to do with licencing I would have thought. Guess if they paid the big bucks to the league's sponsor then could use anyone.

He hasn't played in years. And he was crap.

But he was famous. I mean, Anna Kornakova stinks at tennis but she's a huge star And besides, he was Bullet-Tooth Tony! "I'm drivin' down the street with your head in the window, what does it look like?" <-- classic! But "Tony... look in the Dog -- What?" MORE classic

They have an announcer's call on a Beckham goal in the game's menu pages... I'm thoroughly dissapointed that he's not in it though. I'm not a particular fan of Beckham, but still, he's one of the biggest names in football and it's astonishing they didn't include him.

I'm pretty sure he's in Figa 2006 on the PSP... Will look tomorrow. On the PSP you can do squad updates over the net. Can your version do that if its not PSP?

It's on PS2, and they're tight-knit, so I'll have to check it out. What team does Beckham play for now? Is it Manchester or Real Madrid? The global searches don't turn up anything but the team searches might. And what country does Ronaldo play for when he's not in Brazil during the cup (or eating cheeseburgers)?

Real Madrid. For a few years now, so should be in the latest games.

Which Ronaldo? If you mean the bloke who could open a bottle of beer with his teeth (easily) then is Real Madrid again. Come to think of it you won't go far wrong with Real Madrid. The bench probably costs more than most clubs (not just the price of the players). When I say bench I obviously mean the substitutes that sit on the sidelines during a game. Not a piece of wood....
