Yes its Keemo1000 and his addicting topics again, this time, its Google and Yahoo! Before you reply with "Dude, you know Google's the best." Take a second and think about it.. Yahoo can find things Google cant find. Dont carelessly follow the crowd and say Google owns, sometimes its Yahoo.

I personally say Google, it was Yahoo! but I changed my mind :p

Well, If you do a search for weapon creator on Google, my site is third in the list, if you use Yahoo, Uhuh.

Google wins hands down, though I use yahoo most of the time...

Well search google in google and google is on the top list, amazing! I use google, but thats the first search engine I used and kept with it, I don't see the differance, except;

google videos searches for videos on the google site
yahoo video looks for videos on the net and yahoo has audio search, I was led to believe google is a more powerful search engine, but I don't care as they both provide the results you need (most of the time)Its like saying Coca Cola Zero or Pepsi Max? Well they both taste like watered down Cola so it don't matter in the end.

Google PI
Yahoo PI

Given that that is one of the most popular numbers. (1941 looks like it takes the lead)

Google 1941
Yahoo 1941

The results are in... google gets more hits.

Hmm... it looks like yahoo now has the cache working propperly.

There's been books inches thick written on how to use google properly. If you know enough, you can search your way into someone's computer. (Thats not a joke)

Google wins.

webcrawler.com used to be my main search engine. (long time ago)
Then I went on to use dogpile.com, which takes your search and uses many engines (also several years ago). Now I mainly use yahoo for most things, but I use google when referencing for math/computer tech stuff.

But ya can't beat google images!

Ah, I see BlueEarch knows about the dog pile too!

there used to be a site with 1000 search engine links.

dogpile is ages old and many search engines do the same thing.
its australian

a while back teoma was going to gobble up googles reference base as it also could,
eat into search engine listings. i think they got blocked due to law inforcement like what happened
to google when they raped amazon for books.

as for google fight, well i wouldnt take that seriously would you?

i still use webcrawler for video and certain things.

i used to use alta vista for a while there.

i use something called sherlock as well

google desktop is not google search. Google search is a web based application which spiders websites in order to get information.

Google Desktop is a client based application.

Just because they hold the same name does not make them the same thing.

Installs Google desktop
Types IP into Google

no, they don't seem to be talking to each other.

Quote: "Quickly search your computer for emails, web history, and files"

According to the product description it doesn't upload results to the net (which would be a violation of their privacy agreement) it just searches your computer. It doesn’t seem to say anything about network searching either, but that is besides the point. We were talking about Google as a search engine, not Google Franchise. No matter how hard I try, I will never get access to a persons root directory by searching their IP.

I say its not true based on the assumption that
A) Google Desktop does not violate its privacy agreement by even vaguely having the source to upload file directories to the net.
B) Google Search does not include hacking code.

My point is very clear, Google only has access to web pages. It can NOT access your hard drive UNLESS you feed it the info yourself, and by the time you do that you have already hacked the persons computer.

Second, Google does not search files, it searches text. If you type in winzip100.exe it will not return the link to the exe, it will return the site that has the link. Furthermore, if your site is spidered (uncertain here) links are procured from each webpage allowing you to get access to them or what not.

Finally, the simple truth is that unless you seriously hack Google and rewrite it to do what you want, NO amount of SQL insert will turn Google into a desktop search engine.

Okay, finally, Google Desktop is NOT Google Search. There is a serious difference there. That is like saying Microsoft XP is the same as Microsoft Sam. They have the same first name but entirely different functions.

Im not speaking from experience nor from seeing someone else do it, I've been told on multiple accounts from different largely-computer-savvy people that it's possible. Even without that feature, I have seen huge books written on how to use google, so in my mind if someone takes the time to write said book, then google must pwn.

Wow for the first time I agree with Merranvo. Chris Franklin and fighting spirit, stop arguing what you don't know.

If I have Google Desktop, only I can search my files through Google. *YOU* can't search my files on your end. Do you see the difference? Does that simple concept not make sense?

Just because you have Windows Find and so do I, doesn't mean I can search your hard drive with my Windows Find.

Granted that Fighting Spirit never gave his resources. I will admit I think I found what they were talking about Google

In this case the Google Desktop NOT GOOGLE SEARCH (which I clearly said in my original post on this topic) is going to receive an update allowing it to remotely query your files. Looks more like google desktop evolving into a p2p application. Further more, I stress that this might not make it to actual market (from the article I just skimmed) who knows what will happen, but I believe (unless I am wrong) you can't do it yet, and Google Search is not involved.

Yahoo has something bad about it though,

Lets say im searching in IMAGES for "Blue Cars." Then I press Enter.... Yahoo Returns a "No Results Found" Page. But the funny thing is that once I re-press the Search button, it loads with pictures of what I expected. This is some sort of bug, that makes Google one step higher.

I use hotbot because it searches google, MSN, and ask.com -- pretty nifty search site I think. I also think I might be the only person in the western world who uses it frequently lol. Whenever someone sees me using hotbot they say "what's that?" I say "a search site." They say "what the crap? Why not use google?" UGH!

I haven't used any other search engine except google for the last year, it's always found what I've needed so it's pointless trying any other. Even before Google however, I never used yahoo, I used excite or altavista. Yahoo, side from e-mail is very, very low on my list of search engines because years ago it was as useful as a chocolate kettle. Things might be different today, but old habbits die hard.

I agree with Kenjar, Yahoo's search hasn't been very good at turning up what I want since, oh... 1998 But Google doesn't find what I want sometimes either. When doing research for a few of the games I'm doing now, one in particular with a heavy religious theme (probably why I've been blabbing about religion so much lately... no it's not a christian game), Google stinks at finding the links I need, whereas Hotbot *always* finds what I'm looking for. But again, hotbot searches multiple search engines... I'll never understand why it isn't popular.

Just to clear things up, I was the one that suggested Google was capable to access other computers, I never said it was true, merely said it was something many of my tech-savvy friends/aquaintances have told me, and since I trust a lot of them Im willing to believe there is some truth to the matter.

I've been having some issues with my Yahoo mail recently. Some people e-mail me and I don't get the messages can't figure out what's going on. I contact Yahoo, they say it's my ISP. I contact Time Warner, they say it's Yahoo. Ugh.

Gmail sucks because they auto-filter your email and won't let you send over 50MB in an email.
