Look interesting--- even for a pre-rendered scene. Anyone have any ideas what this will be? FPS? RTS?

Looks pretty badass. Dunno what it is, but I bet there's shooting involved. : /

I hope the new Halo for the 360 does something new.

Ensemble Studios? No Bungie?

I don't really know what to say. I'm excited about this! It does look like an RTS, or maybe something along the lines of Star Wars : Battlefront.

it looks good, though no Bungie puts me off some reason, makes it feel cheesy

the voice acting detracted from it for me, seemed a bit cheesy... but besides that looked like a nice game

Ensemble studios eh? I know I've heard that somewhere. What popular games have they made?

[EDIT] Recognised it when I saw the logo. They're the people who made age of mythology and age of empires. This looks good. If I were bungie, ensemble would be my first choice to allow to make an rts of halo.

An RTS? That would kinda suck if they put an RTS on 360... I never thought an RTS on consoles were practical... or even good. Anyway I thought the trailer looked pretty kick ass, didn't like the music too much though.

@The Crazy I think they made AOE.

EDIT: Ah, its a prequel to Halo1... excellent. I've read all the books... should be interesting.

I love RTS games, a console version (especially for Halo) probally wouldn't be too bad...

I like RTS too, just not on a console. But a Halo RTS... that would be different.

Have you played Battle for Middle Earth II on 360? That's how one does a console RTS right.

BFME2 on the 360 was awesome. They spent 5 years hashing out the controls for it

My best friend works at Ensemble Studios. I had know idea this game was even in the works! lol
It is probably being made at Ensemble using the Age of Empires engine, which would mean it is an RTS. I'll have to call him up and ask some "details".

Although I'm not much of a fan of Halo, I did like that trailer. Pretty cool to have the live action dudes in there.

All that for what is innevetibly gonna be a Generals rip-off.

Why do people get excited about FMV, I can see the attraction if your interested in the technology, or machima, but there's no correlation between that video and a videogame, so what's the point . I'd rather have a single screenshot of in-game footage than an intro sequence.

Never mind, they are CG, I took a closer look on a better monitor. But it's pretty darn good.

While a new Halo game is a slightly interesting prospect, it's a little wierd there are no details on it. In terms of the game type or such.

I'm personally still just looking forward to Halo 3... screw whatever else is comming out with the brand on it. We all know what happens when Bungie gives their games to other developers to convert or make spin-offs.

Halo on the PC (Gearbox) was just horribly unoptimised and even with a high-end 3D card you can expect times of lag with very few on-screen effects. Oni on the PS2 (Rockstar North) had some of the worst control response times in a game where control response is essential to stay alive.

This isn't a dis-against Ensemble as they do make some good strong software, just personally not going to expect this to really live up to my expectations from the Halo-Series. Just a shame 3 will be the last from Bungie.

Wasn't the first Halo going to be an RTS originally? Then they changed their minds and made a FPS instead. Interesting that they're going back and making it anyway

Nah, it was originally 3rd person, like the vehicle view but all the time, it originally had dinosaurs as well, which I don't understand why they removed.

Well, kindof. It had 3rd person elements, but it was definitely classed as an RTS, I believe. Certainly explains why they shut down that RTS fan-mod.

Actually, in this case, it is a very good move. Ensemble makes damn good RTS games. Why re-invent the wheel? The engine for Age of Empires is solid and polished. Bungie couldn't do anything to compare to that in a decent time frame. If they outsourced to Ensemble to make a FPS game (for example), then I'd agree. In this case though, they are giving it to one of the best at that particular genre. I am a bit suprised that Bungie didn't just license the AOE engine and make it themselves, but this will probably offer better results.

I've sent my friend an e-mail so I'll see if he can offer any more scoop. I doubt he will be allowed to say much though and even if he does I probably won't be able to repeat it.

yeah I agree about that AoE was a damn good game (lil boring to me, but not my sort of thing as I prefer Generals) and Bungie making it would be kinda silly; but just think i'm going to wait until there's a demo

this said not going to have the same reservation about the Peter Jackson addition to the Halo universe. Something about Jackson's work that makes me wanna hit someone. (especially King Kong!!)

Ahhh, see what you mean Tinker, and I thought indi developers flip-flopped! .

Personally I thought the covenant parts of Halo2 killed it, the way you changed every other level was just irritating, these guys are supposed to be the enemy. I much preffered the original Halo, sold the xbox to me, to hell with dual weilding, just give me the original pistol back.

Even playing online, Farcry is head and shoulders above it, I play quite a bit of Farcry on XBC, even with Halo's split screen LAN possibilities I'd rather give it a miss. Maybe it's because people are too good at it, for me the games just not diverse enough. Ubisofts idea of including a level editor with the xbox version of FC was golden, I haven't even played the single player campaign because of it.

Anyhoo, I just got my homebrew kit for the DS, so I'm looking at the C&C clone someones developing (slowly), that's all the RTS action I need .

The map maker in FCI was pretty awesome, but a lil limited in terms of you couldn't make any in-door stuff.
I prefer Halo/Halo2 online though, mainly cause I'm not a fan of FarCry (peroid)

you have a link to that C&C clone for the DS? I'd love to know more about that

Chances are Bungie no longer own the IP for Halo. Usually the first thing a publisher will do when writing the contract is to make sure they own all Intellectual Property. Meaning, it's no longer Bungie's choice who gets to make Halo games (or even if they get to). Of course, this isn't the case for all games, but we're talking about Microsoft here, like 90% of other publishers, they're going to want to own the IP before they dish out any cash.

I'm not sure about the status of Bungie, but I know Ensemble is OWNED by Microsoft. My friend worked there for a little while before the buyout took place. All I know is that the people that were there for a while were very well taken care of when it happened.

I just got an e-mail back form him. Unfortunantely, he is not working the game. He did say that it is an all new engine with some of the guts taken from Age 3. He said that it looks and plays very nice and that he thinks most people will be pretty excited when they see it.

that sucks... but on the other hand, they wouldn't get a whole bunch of money or advertising or whatever so I reckon it'd have to be a balanced decision...

Seeing as how Microsoft OWNS Bungie, it's not a case of a publisher withdrawing cash until they own the IP. MS got the IP when they purchased the company, therefore it makes little difference whether Bungie or MS technically own the IP as it's all the same.

Um, no. I have never seen a console game "hacked" onto the PC before--- aside from ancient retro consoles like the NES and SNES. Maybe in 10 years when there's a 360 emulator on the PC.

But because you don't have the source for the 360 game in question, you can't just "hack" it onto the PC. I've never seen it done, because frankly I think it's next to impossible. That and the CPU of the 360 is not directly compatible with the Intel architecture.
