heh... cool! nice work.

FYI: Its not just things like URL's which make me prefer Drupal... Its the way its designed to be hugely modular and its support level.

+Drupal: HUGE forum, IRC Support and handbooks/API documentation.
What support does your system have?

Don't take this the wrong way - but this is my main concern. To me it sounds like you started with a structured system and then, gradually over time, hacked it to do what you wanted it to do and now its being hacked further to do something else which is fine if its a project run and maintained solely by yourself, but this could potentially lead us to a situation where you are the only person on earth capable of maintaining it. At least with a Drupal system the back-end is very well documented for others to read up on + there are others out there who can help with it...

That is a good point Nick. I will try out Drupal as soon as my server comes online to see how it works and can be used.

About my attempt... the code for the web ring is completely separate from the rest of Coders Turf, and just includes a couple of framework PHP files.

The Code:

I've documented the code, its still a bit messy and incomplete but you can take a look anyway. All database names, table names and PHP file names have been changed. Please copy and paste into an editor that can highlight PHP files to make it clearer, sorry about the long line, its neater that way.

Anyway thats what I have so far. As you can see its almost completely self contained. The framework can be removed very easily so this code could be used on any website with PHP and MySQL setup correctly.

And the CSS file:

And yes I am aware that this CSS code has not been "fixed" to work in IE 6+ yet.

I see your point about the forums. But I think we should have some system for webring admins to communicate where the general public can't see it (eh, I guess there's always e-mail though, but it might be nice to have announcements and such posted somewhere that only admins get access to, like the mod forums here (which I assume exist)). With all of this technical discussion as to how it's going to be made, some of us who aren't discussing that stuff (me, Dapib, a few others) might want to start talking about submission rules... having at least one game or app made with TGC gear is obviously a must, but what other rules should we implement? A few ideas:

* I think one site per developer is important... it wouldn't be fair if I had MINet posted, but then posted the sub-directories for Cheney Hunter, Eternal Equinox, Capital Punishment, and the yet-to-be-named follow-up to Cheney Hunter (should be out in a few days, btw, and this is as close to a WIP announcement as I'll get until it's done )... anyway, you get the idea.

* Maybe a review of site content? And a few rules to keep out the sites that have nothing to do with TGC stuff... for instance, if someone made an "adult" game using DBP and posted it on pornsite.com, then pornsite.com shouldn't be allowed to be submitted due to the fact that it's a pornographic site, and not really a dev site (something like that might take away from the legitimacy of serious sites, you know?). Does that make sense? Or is it a silly rule?

What I don't get is, my site seems to keep growing and growing in terms of how many people visit each week... it was 135 since christmas... and yet none of these people visits the forums on my site. They go and look around at various threads, but they don't actually say anything. Is the registration making people not want to visit the forum, or do I just need to get more games done to give people a reason to chit-chat? Because as far as I can tell there's quite a few people who come to the site... and it's sort of mysterious why they won't use the forum .

Makes sense to me. We can only link to the Developer's website. So, only if you made the game can the Web ring be linked to you

You also might want to be careful some of those are your own visits.

Well, I could maybe whip something up where you can post and edit and it will just put it into a database which will be drawn from too. Also, I just want to help.

Why not discuss it here?

After-all, most of the people who'll become part of it will be from this forum.

Alright, I'm going to start a new thread and give a run-down of what's happening, and ask people to give some input
