Yeah I like the texture on that Rolfy. Very subdued, almost a saturated pastel. I've seen this kind of art before and always admired it. I still think my work is a bit to floozy looking and could stand a little better done make up......

But that's the difference 'tween us country filly tramps and you city career women......

Built new indoors scene for the 'Land',really cant keep the continuity with FPSC's lighting tho',so I think I will just bake all the lightmaps for this game.
Gave 'Clackety jack' a sword and shield and re-animated him.

Thanks Fred,as I said above tho' I think darklights is a big improvement nothing beats the lighting control in Max,and I find that baked textures really is the way to go with structures and outdoor scenes, will probably find that the game compiles a lot faster too.

Mr Makealotofsmoke, yeah you actually start out in tne urban level,as the player you are transported to the 'Land'.You will return to the urban level occasionally.
As I started this with no set idea for a theme and I have been developing the storyline as it's went along,It may now be best to ask if I could delete this thread and start a new one with a more appropriate header.LOL.

Just e-mail me and let me know and I will delete this thread for you (I'd rather just lock it though so you and others can refer to it) and you can start a new thread.

Amazing...

I don't know how I have overlooked this topic, everything is so amazing, so mystical. Maybe the Urban Level is a bit disfigurated in the other level's enviorment.
It has almost the Elder Scrols 4: Oblivion graphical qualitity.

Keep up the good work...

For the fairy tale land you could have attacking ginger bread men...

That would be pretty funny...

"Whats That In The Bushes" Asked Dave To His Commander.
"I dont know" said the commander "But There Coming Right At Us."
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!" Screamed Dave And His Commander as they ran away from the evil gingerbread men.

im lost for words seriously am i have never seen anything like that its like better graphics than Far Cry (Not Really hard in FPSC) and like as high end as Battle Field 2 (Now That Is Hard In FPSC) And woow seriously watched the Little guy :o I was like woow and that guy saying it was bad i think it great. You must work damn hard.

Hope you get FPSCX10 Now that would be excellent to see your work in that.

Nice one

I have two questions about this though:

1- If the entire level is just one model, then does it look like when you shoot stuff?
2- Another thing, I'm assuming you use 3DS Max, how do you manage to export the textures used in your materials using Panda .X Esporter (If you're using another one, please tell me which).

bdgbdg,
To answer question 1,Haven't made the entire level one model, although all the buildings, doors parts etc are arranged and texture baked in one scene, they are still all separate models.

Question 2,Textures are exported the usual way in Panda exporter, tho' I select texture conversion 'none' or simply copy the textures over to the saved models folder and apply it in the fps or fpe files..I always use dds.

Best rolfy.

One last environment for now,I think I've now got a feel for the colours and the general look of the outdoor scenes for this game,I can come back to it later.
I should probably move indoors and do some interiors now

Nice!

I like the use of your grass there, it looks so natural. Is that a DarkMatter skybox is see? These levels are looking fantastic, i'm hoping one day i'll create outdoor environments as good as this. One day...

One thing though (becuase i had to split hairs); The sky shows a rather unnaturally green overcast day. Its not the fact that the clouds are it's just that the shadows on the house are quite sharp. If you've ever noticed the difference in shadows under cars on a sunny day and on a cloudy day, you'll know what i mean. I think you should lower the lightmap quality to get the shadows more feathered. Also, check to see where the main source of light is one your skybox. Place your "sun" light closer to that bit of your skybox.

Hope that helps,
AE

AE,the skybox is my own,I dont have Darkmatter, the green tinge is deliberate,I kind of like the colours and as the 'Land' is fictional I used a little bit of artistic license there.
Man,I could even witter on about the binary sun system,Dwarven pollution,or the fact the 'Land' is dying as reasons for this

It's my Land so it can be what I wants,so there..

The sun is actually in the correct position,it's behind and to the left of the player in the above scene, there are breaks in the cloud cover.I am not using any of the lights in FPSC,only ambience. The shadows are a little dark i will agree but this is due to me having to tweak the levels in Photoshop as screen capture and conversion to .jpg tends to make images a little dark.
Hope you will try out the demo when its done so you can see it's all o.k. in game.but seriously, thanks for the comments and advice

As it should be.
But I am a benevelont ruler, and when the people ask for better shadows and different coloured sky in their Land, then they shall have it.

Seems like the perfect setting for a Machinima of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKbWdgW6sD8

I like that pic, rolfy, but i have some questions:
What time of day is it meant to be?
Are the houses entities are made from segments?
Are the trees behind the houses a single texture on a flat plane?
Does the well actually go down (have you cut a hole in the terrain)?
Can you go inside the houses?

That's all for now, well done Rolfy

Filya i know your not like going to but we dont support any kind of MALIJOUS attack.

Rolfy as i guess has taken along time making these Models.

Now why dont you goto say GOOGLE.CO.UK Youtube.com Video.google.co.uk and learn how to model and spend time like Rolfy has and make models.

I have started learning modeling. Yes it takes a long time. Yes it can be Hard. Yes it can Be Irritating

But however Rolfy has taken along time on this and he has done well. Also you can do well by putting time and effort not trying to steal other peoples work like that.

You are right Spudling. May be I should turn to the good side and stop my evil ways.
I promise to turn over a new leaf today onwards.

I shall put in a lot of hard work in learning how to model and texture. Never will I think of stealing someone's work like that. I will now go and delete the model-snatching virus I had made for rolfy.

Thanks for the inspiration mate.

Quote: "What time of day is it meant to be?"

Probably evening time,in late summer.
The houses csn be static entities or segments, segments tend to have better collision tho'.
The trees are on a single plane, will probably use these as boundary of paths, with a fence on either side of path to contain the player and enemies, well I think so,that's the plan anyway.
With a couple of low res trees and billboards of trees and grass hope to have a sort of woodland walk.
The well does not go deep yet, will probably make a grate to cover it.
Yes you can go inside the houses, the number of these will depend on the limits, when fps gets below 30,I start to cut back.

Core, there is no scripting involved at this stage, the beauty of FPSC and ease in getting stuff in game, its all modeling and texturing

Spudling,I appreciate you watching my back.Filya is an old buddy and was just yanking my chain,so it's all cool.
