I just released a new game called Pod 9. It's too large to host through the MISoft site (I don't think we have the bandwidth for it), so I've turned to free file hosting services online. Right now I'm using www.filehosting.cc, but I'd like to get the game on a few more servers as well, to give people options when downloading, to add safety nets, etc. What free filehosting services do you guys use for big zip files? The game (which is compressed into an installer and further compressed into a zip) is about 149 MB in size. What are the best and worst services out there, and what should I be weary of/ avoid?

I hate file planet, I'm not big on waiting around because I didn't pay for a membership. Ironically, I'm uploading the game to Filefront right now . Are there any other good services to use? I'd like to have as many servers hosting the game as possible just to be safe

a great one that lets you have an account etc. is Box.net, 1GB storage and you can keep track of all the files you uploaded, make folders and add your files into a flash file sharing box.

I just took a look at box.net, and it seemed genuinely cool, but it won't let me upload any files larger than 10mb

Xdrive allows 5 gig with no file size limit, you do need to make a free AOL screen name however. Its upload accelerator is pretty good.

MegaUpload.com is ok. I've downloaded plenty of files off of it. I think you can upload for free. Non account users have to wait 45 seconds to download, free account users wait 25 seconds. You can download up to 200 some odd megs or until the file is done if you are only downloading one file that big. I dunno about uploading on it though.

What about savefile?

Underlord, that would definitely be cool. Mythopoea Games is hosting the file as well, and I'd love to have as many servers hosting it as possible for redundancy, so if you'd like to host it I'd be extra greatful

I'll check out XDrive, MegaUpload, and savefile now and put those up as well. Thank you for the help guys!

Awesome, I'll check it in a second, I'm on hold with tech support for my website, there's some big problem with updating the pod 9 subsite now

Personally I use Filefront, they'll email you if your file is going to be deleted so you know it'll always stay up.

Aside from that, Bigupload.com is pretty good. I like it more than Megaupload, savefile, and rapidshare.

I love it, right now I'm uploading Pod 9 to Underlord's server, and then on yourgamer.net pendinding the e-mail... that's awesome! I think redundancy is covered now, thank you so much guys for showing me all of these servers . I've got a lot of free games to give out now lol.
