The following is a list of my first day with Dark Basic Pro.

1. Installed and registered OK, Example programs run fine.

2. Updated to latest version, now no program will run.

3. Reinstall - now I cant upgrade without distroying DB Pro

4. Type a large number of exaple programs from Hands on DB Pro V2. Save using "save projects" and lose all typing.

5. Start typing again and save using "save source".

6. Run programs from Book only to find half won't work (not a typing error or lack of media). eg program contains line SET SHADOW SHADING ON 2,-1,100,1. In my version of DB Pro you can only have the object number with that command and thats all, has the command been changed? Also numerous particle demos run with no particles visable just a blank screen, again no typing errors, but a simple change to the particle command and it works. In all I typed 10 examples and of that 3 would not work as printed.

In all, not the first day I thought it would be.

The saving/loading of saved projects problem is due to DBP's IDE being bugged, they cant do anything about it right now because the developer of the IDE quit and has all of the source rights. Go to the downloads page and find Code Surge IDE.

The shadow shading problem is because you're not on the latest version.

About the upgrading/reinstallment, I can only assume you did something wrong there, never heard of any problems before.

Now I'm officialy pi**** off.

Tried upgrading again and DB Pro will not work again.

It seems the problem is the version of DirectX I have. Seems simple enough, just download the latest version? WRONG! Even though at the moment I am holding an official CD of Windows XP, Microsoft in all their money hungry uselessness have just asked me to buy a genuine advantage kit for $238, because they say I don't have a genuine version.

I have had enough of this, It looks like I have just bought a $190 beer mat because thats all the DBpro cd is good for now.

I had the same problem. Try uninstalling version 6.4 and installing version 6.3? I don't quite remember how I fixed it...

HowDo - That is my problem, I can't valadate, it just says their is a problem and to hand over more cash when I have a genuine copy of XP. They want me to pay again.

CattleRustler - If you bothered to read my post I said it was Microsoft's fault, not DBP. I will say again for those at the back - Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft - clear yet?

Milkman - Yes I paid approx $190, Australian Dollars, Not everyone lives in the US.

As for Ruccus, No i'd better not, way to easy to say something regarding your problem is between your ears, so I wont say it OK?

For everyone else thanks for trying to help, I found a site with a direct link to DirectX on Microsoft's site and have downloaded it, but at the moment are dreading even trying it, dont want to start from scratch and install everything again.

UPDATE - Installed DirectX (Feb 07 version) and everything is ok now. Thanks for your help, I was over the top at times, so I apologise for that, but it just got so frustrating.

That's some one sided thinking Kieran, just because MOST people have no problem then it MUST be my fault.

So on the off chance that something is wrong other than me, i'm still at fault because most people had no problem.

Me, I cant see the logic in that, but each to his own I suppose.

If you have a legit copy of Windows, you should be able to call up M$ and work it out with them. (I know, not a pleasant thought.) I've been fortunate that my copy validates properly, but I'm really worried about when I reformat my hard-drive and upgrade some of my computer hardware what's going to happen.

@Kieran,
A LOT of legit Windows owners have been screwed over by M$ and their genuine advantage crap. I wouldn't blame him over it. Hopefully, you can work it out by calling Microsoft.

Oh, and yes, you should download CodeSurge when you're able to get DBP up and running again.

Good performance is better than a good excuse.

Thanks for the support Hyrichter, I have got DBpro up and running (had to find a direct link to DirectX) and it is amazing, simple and powerful in the one package.

Speaking of CodeSurge I just downloaded it, and will try it.

If I dont valadate my copy of windows what will happen? Patches and updates still load and no message is shown that it is not valadated, so what should happen when windows is not valadated? I have only valadated once on the computer before this one, and I thought a message comes up to tell you to valadate, have I remembered wrong?

You only need to validate it once and if you don't validate it, you are warned with a pop-up box every time you start your machine. Eventually it will refuse to run.

If you aren't seeing this message then I think it's safe to say that you are already validated and I wouldn't worry about it.

I've yet to have a machine with Windows on it that didn't give me some validation problem or other and didn't need a call to some Microsoft monkey somewhere - so you are not on your own.

Your problem now seems to be solved so I'm locking this thread as the only thing left to do is argue about what's been said!
